Yaban also had a small appearance in the anime episode Cowardly Creature - but here he was white with white hair with a shade of purple, and had light brown feet.

When Phan Phan escapes, the N.M.E. Sales Guy turns to King Dedede to help return him. Dedede is angry at him, and tells him that he should be ashamed for letting him escape. But NME Salesman says that he wasn't in his care at the time. He goes on to explain that Phan Phan was at the "Monster Training School." Yaban is one of the few monsters to be shown in the training school. He, along with Mr. Frosty, is a member of the flower Class, which is the weakest of the whole school. He is shown jumping rope. It is not known what becomes of him after Nightmare is destroyed, neither is it known if he even finishes training school and becomes a full-fledged monster by the end of the series.

Etymology

Yaban's name comes from the Japanese word for a savage/uncivilized being, やばん/野蛮 (Yaban).
