Windy, Freezing Seas is the nineteenth stage in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It is the third stage of Winter Horns. It succeeds Metro on Ice and precedes The Battle of Blizzard Bridge.
General Information[]
Kirby arrives via Warp Star on top of a series of gable-shaped platforms on icy waters, immediately facing powerful torrents of wind. Spots safe from the wind are indicated by darker ground, and gates distributed along the path act as barriers preventing Kirby from being blown past. Upon beginning the stage, Kirby may immediately inhale a Needlous to receive the Needle ability, as it is immune to the wind while the spikes are extended. A small metal platform safe from wind can be found after a jump, containing crates with a red Star Coin and food item inside. Proceeding past a Gigatzo takes Kirby to a split path where he must go down to obtain Pipe Mouth, then roll forward and jump across a gap into a cracked wall. Shattering the wall reveals a Waddle Dee and Needle Copy Essence. Kirby can then head to the right, making a few jumps, before finding a small platform off to the right of the main path. Destroying a Bomb Block on it reveals several Star Coins and a Gotcha Capsule. After collecting these, Kirby can proceed to the next section through a Door.
The next section focuses on the use of Ring Mouth on a boat. Shortly after the section begins, Kirby can find a metallic ring under a grate. Inhaling it causes two Walfs to spawn and attack the player. The player can also take out some more enemies before boarding the boat. Kirby must immediately boost through a cracked stretch of land to continue forth. After breaking through more cracked walls and being bombarded by Balloon-Meisters, Kirby encounters a spiked wall, which he cannot pass. He must dock the boat and defeat a few land enemies before activating a Fan, which lowers the spike wall. Kirby can then board the boat once more, boost through some Scarfies and a cracked wall, and rescue a Waddle Dee. A newly created trail of Star Coins leads Kirby to another dock, where he can interact with a sparkling spot to reveal a Gotcha Capsule. After this, he can climb a ladder to fight two Hot Heads before riding a Warp Star to the next section.
This section reintroduced the wind, this time blowing Kirby forward through a long path with several holes. Fences are placed in front of most holes, however. After a few enemies, the player can find a Lantern Switch off to the left, which spawns a trail of Star Coins leading to a hole when activated. This hole contains a Waddle Dee. Moving past a few Gigatzos takes Kirby to a platform off to the left, which has several Ice Blocks in the way of a ladder. Melting the blocks and climbing the ladder reveals another Lantern Switch, this one creating another Star Coin trail. This leads to a secret underground room, where Kirby must activate a fuse and hurry past a Gordo to use Scissor-Lift Mouth and reach a high-up Cannon. This cannon takes Kirby to a very high ledge in the main area, with a Waddle Dee in front of him. Kirby should then head back down to the main path, and he must immediately fight a few Bouncies to unlock a scissor-lift. Once the enemies are defeated, Kirby can use Scissor-Lift Mouth one more time to hit a switch, which opens the ceiling. He must then spit out the lift, using the wind to launch himself to an icy spire containing the goal and a Gotcha Capsule behind some rocks.
Missions[]
Italicized missions are hidden from view on the player's first playthrough.
- Clear the stage: When Kirby clears the stage for the first time, he will automatically rescue 3 Waddle Dee prisoners from the golden cage.
- Save the hidden Waddle Dees: 5 Waddle Dee prisoners can be found here, their locations being the following:
- Behind a cracked wall, requiring Pipe Mouth to break it.
- Behind a cracked wall and several Scarfies on the sea.
- Behind Ice Blocks near the second Gotcha Capsule, which can be melted with the Fire ability obtained from the Hot Heads above.
- Hidden in a hole in the final section; Kirby can activate a Lantern Switch to help locate the Waddle Dee.
- Found after entering the cannon in the secret underground room.
- Find a cave that's safe from the wind: After rescuing the first Waddle Dee, Kirby can use the provided Needle ability to boost past some powerful wind off to the left. This leads to a cave containing a Star Coin pile, a food pile, and three sleeping Awoofies.
- Enjoy 3 meals at sea: While using Ring Mouth aboard the boat, Kirby can eat several food items. Their locations are:
- Right after boarding the boat, in front of a Scarfy.
- After breaking through a wall in the same section, to the top-right of where a Balloon-Meister throws bombs.
- Between the 3 Scarfies after lowering the spike wall.
- Jump into the secret underground room: After activating the second Lantern Switch in the final area, a path of Star Coins is created, which leads to a mysterious chasm. The player must descend into the hole to complete the mission.
Blueprint[]
The Dragon Fire Blueprint is located near the end of the stage. After finding the fourth Waddle Dee, Kirby can find a frozen scissor-lift, which can be unfrozen for the Scissor-Lift Mouth. Navigating past a Gigatzo leads to a ledge, which Kirby can extend to reach. The ledge contains a Treasure Chest, which holds the Blueprint. The Blueprint can be used to evolve the Fire ability at Waddle Dee's Weapons Shop.
