“ | Uniclod is very proud of his horn... That's why he wants to spear everybody with it.” |
— Cast Description • Kirby's Epic Yarn |
Uniclods are semi-common enemies appearing in the game Kirby's Epic Yarn. They first appear in the Flower Fields level and in various other levels as well. They also appear during the battle with Yin-Yarn, where four of them appear along with two Scarfys. Uniclods have an idle pose where their spike falls flat and the Uniclod tries to pull it up.
Physical Appearance[]
Uniclods are a sub-species of Cyclods and thus, look very similar. Uniclods look like Cyclods except they have a gray spike on top of their head. Uniclods have an aquatic variant called Bobber Clods which appear in Water Land.
Games[]
Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn[]
Uniclods attack Kirby and Prince Fluff by running into them with their spike. If the heroes come in contact with the spike, they will lose beads. When wrapped up into a yarn ball, it gives a penetrating projectile that can defeat several enemies in a row and only stops when going off the screen or when it hits a wall.
Etymology[]
Uniclod's name comes from the prefix "uni-", meaning "one," referring to its single eye and single horn; and "clod," a stupid person, referencing its status as a fairly common and otherwise weak enemy. Clod is also a cognate of the Dutch word "klodde," which refers to a rag, relating to the yarn and fabric theme of the game.
Its Japanese name, サスゾー (Sasuzō), comes from さす (sasu), which can mean to "to pierce; to stab; to prick; to stick; to thrust," referring to its form of attack, as well as "to sew; to stitch; to embroider," again referencing the yarn and fabric theme.
