Waddle Dee soon appears with his toboggan. Kirby jumps on board, and the two are off for a harrowing ride.

The toboggan (also called the sled) is a vehicle in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.

Physical Appearance

The toboggan is a long red vessel with two metal skates attached to its underside.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

The toboggan appears exclusively in Stage 1 of Shiver Star. Kirby stops for a moment and Waddle Dee comes up behind him in the toboggan. Waddle Dee is unable to control it, however, and crashes into Kirby, knocking the hero into the back of the vessel. They then ride it across the snowy landscape. The toboggan defeats any enemy it hits without damaging its passengers. Pressing A causes the vessel to jump, enabling Kirby to collect items and dodge logs or shallow pits. If the toboggan hits an obstacle, it flips over it and continues down the path, leaving Kirby with one point of damage.

At the end of the sequence, Kirby and Waddle Dee panic before crashing into a snow-covered structure. Both characters are launched into the air. Waddle Dee lands head-down in the snow while Kirby bounces through an igloo entrance to fight a Chilly Room Guarder.

The toboggan operates identically to the raft in Stage 2 of Aqua Star and the Mine Cart in Stage 2 of Neo Star.

On the sled ride with Waddle Dee, you'll come across a snow mound with a tunnel through it. If you jump at the right time, you can go over the mound. If you come up on the second snow mound of the sled ride, be sure to jump in time so that you'll go over the mound. The Crystal Shard is sitting on top of the second snow mound.

Just like your other rides with Waddle Dee, this one ends with the riders being thrown. Don't worry—you won't take any damage from the impact. Kirby flies into the igloo to the right for the next area of the stage.

Kirby and friend hit the slopes for some winter fun in a toboggan. Well, ol' Kirb' doesn't exactly have the physique for downhill skiing, y'know.[1]

  • When the toboggan crashes into the final obstacle and bounces off its snow-covered top, brown rocks fly up instead of snow. It is unclear why this happens.
