The Three Mage-Sisters, also known as the Jambastion mages or the Three Generals of Magic, are characters that appear in the Kirby series, debuting as the secondary antagonists of Kirby Star Allies, but would later become allies. They are followers of Hyness and priestesses of the Jambastion Religion.

They are all first fought in Fortress of Shadows - Jambastion, but are fought again in Far-Flung - Starlight Heroes. The Three Mage-Sisters also appear in the Heroes in Another Dimension sub-game, where they fight collectively as the sixth and final boss. They also appear as Dream Friends once Heroes in Another Dimension is cleared with the "Happy Ending".

The blue Mage-Sister, Francisca, fights with a snowflake labrys, a double-sided axe, and uses ice sorcery. She can manipulate the size of the axe’s head and throw it like a giant disk. She can also use a soda shooter to shoot a long stream of soda that bounces off the floor and ceiling; this causes dark blue stars to appear, and swallowing them grants the Water ability. Her giant disk and icicle launch attacks make light blue stars appear, which grant the Ice ability. She is known as the Frozen General, or the Bringer of Icy Doom.
+
The blue Mage-Sister, named Francisca, wields a labrys, a double-sided axe, as her main weapon of choice, as well as a soda gun. She also specializes in ice magic. Francisca is the calmest of the Mage-Sisters, but she is also the most cruel and cold-blooded, keeping her frozen enemies as trophies in a collection. However, despite her cruelness, she is very kind and polite to her friends and allies. She has a close bond with Flamberge, missing her when spending time apart for a while.

The red Mage-Sister, Flamberge, fights with a flamberge, and also uses fire sorcery. One attack includes using a cannon that shoots a long and wide stream of fire directly ahead. This attack creates red stars which grant the Fire ability when swallowed. She’s supposed to be looking for dark hearts, but Flamberge has found her way to a nice, toasty spot and is taking a bit of a break. She is known as the Blazing General, or the Bringer of Flame.
+
The red Mage-Sister, named Flamberge, wields a flamberge, a wave-bladed sword, as her main weapon of choice, as well as a giant flame cannon called the Mega Broiler. She also specializes in fire magic. Flamberge is very expressive with her emotions, commonly shouting when speaking. She is also quite hot-headed, often being easily angered. She is rather energetic, usually heated up for battle and ready to go wild. She is very protective of Francisca, as she has a close bond with her, and will attack those who have hurt or upset her.

The yellow Mage-Sister, Zan Partizanne, fights with a partisan and uses electric sorcery. Her attacks with her thunder drums can create green stars which give the Plasma ability, or orange stars which give the Beam ability. She is the dutiful leader of the three Jambastion mages. At the bidding of Hyness, she hunts for dark hearts. She is known as the Lightning General, or the Bringer of Shock.
+
The yellow Mage-Sister, named Zan Partizanne, is the eldest member and the leader of the Mage-Sisters. She wields a partisan, a type of polearm, as her main weapon of choice, as well as a giant ring contraption with three taiko drums. She also specializes in electric magic. Zan Partizanne takes her position very seriously. She remains loyal to her allies at all times, and always repays her debts to those who have helped her. However, she is relatively aggressive, and can even be downright rude at times, mostly by pretentious name-calling.

History
Before the events of the main story, the Three Mage-Sisters were once ordinary girls on the brink of death. Francisca nearly froze to death in a snowstorm, Flamberge nearly suffocated in a fire, and Zan Partizanne nearly died after being struck by lightning while desperately climbing a tower in an attempt to end her own life after she lost everything. However, before they could depart from the world, Hyness arrived in the nick of time and saved their lives by granting them the powers of ice, fire, and electricity, respectively. Thus, the three of them became Hyness’s followers, admiring him for rescuing them.

According to Hyness, those of his religion, as well as possibly himself and the Three Mage-Sisters, were banished and sealed away to the edge of the galaxy by a race known as the ancients, who were known for creating legendary and powerful treasures. Hyness exclaims that the ancients banished and sealed them away because they feared their power, and that they attempted to erase their very existence from history itself. Also according to Hyness, their religion was responsible for stopping a "galactic crisis" of sorts, however, it's unknown what this "crisis" was. Hyness also mentions a book of legend that foretold the restoration of those that are masters of a matter most dark, or those of their religion. It could be presumed that those who were part of this religion wrote this book akin to the Holy Bible, Torah, or other religious texts.

Story
  +
At the beginning of Kirby Star Allies, Hyness attempts to resurrect Void, the god of their religion, as Void Termina by breaking the seal of his vessel, the Jamba Heart. However, Hyness did not fully understand how to break the seal, and as a result, accidentally shattered the Jamba Heart, sending its shards across the galaxy. Thus, on behalf of Hyness, the Three Mage-Sisters set out on a mission to retrieve the Jamba Heart shards in order to resurrect Void.

  +
Each of the Three Mage-Sisters are first fought on Jambastion. After Kirby and friends have defeated Meta Knight, the Three Mage-Sisters land their Jambastion Fortress on Planet Popstar in search of any Jamba Heart shards that were on it. Kirby and friends face them one by one while invading the fortress, first fighting Francisca, who explains their plan to them and warns them not to interfere before subsequently attacking them. She is defeated, and retreats while holding a Jamba Heart shard. The heroes then face Flamberge, who is absolutely furious that they hurt Francisca, and attacks them in a rage. Like Francisca, Flamberge is defeated, and retreats while holding a Jamba Heart shard. Kirby and friends eventually face Zan Partizanne, who remarks that she underestimated them, and attacks in order to end the threat they pose. However, she is also defeated, but before she retreats with a Jamba Heart shard in her grasp, she destroys the Jambastion's core, causing the fortress to collapse, in an attempt to bury the heroes, forcing them to escape.
Story
SpoilerStartAfter Kirby and friends have defeated Meta Knight, the Three Mage-Sisters land their Jambastion Fortress on Planet Popstar. Kirby and friends face them one by one, defeating first Francisca, then Flamberge, and finally Zan Partizanne, in which the latter proceeds to destroy the Jambastion Fortress. Kirby and friends then encounter Francisca and Flamberge on different planets, still on their hunt for Jamba Heart pieces. Kirby and friends defeat them once again and make their to their base, where they approach their master, Hyness, who is performing the reviving ceremony. Before Kirby and friends can interrupt, however, Zan Partizanne blocks their way, and the five engage in a fight.

  +
Each of them are then fought once more in Far-Flung - Starlight Heroes. Kirby and friends encounter Francisca on Blizzno Moon, where she is continuing her hunt for the Jamba Heart shards. She attacks the heroes, but is defeated once again and sent flying into the distance. They then encounter Flamberge on Sizzlai Moon, where she was slacking off and taking a break before encountering them. Like Francisca, Flamberge is defeated and is sent flying into the distance. Kirby and friends then make their way to The Divine Terminus, where Hyness is performing a ritual that is repairing the Jamba Heart with its shards. However, before the heroes could stop him, Zan Partizanne appears and blocks their way, and the five engage in a fight.
Zan is defeated, and she begs Hyness for his help, but Hyness is displeased with her failure and bats her aside to face the heroes himself. Hyness was then bested by the heroes, but then proceeds to summon the Mage-Sisters to him. He then drains their life force to restore his own, rendering the Mage-Sisters unconscious. Hyness and the heroes fight again, with the former using the Mage-Sisters' unconscious bodies as living weapons. When they are defeated, Hyness throws the Three Mage-Sisters, still unconscious, into the incomplete Jamba Heart on the altar, and soon dives into it himself, reviving the Dark Lord, Void Termina.

Zan Partizanne is defeated, and she begs Hyness for his help before losing consciousness, but Hyness, displeased with the interruption, bats her aside to face the heroes himself. During their battle, Hyness's hood and veil are knocked off, and proceeds to lose his grip on reality. He summons the Mage-Sisters to him and drains their life force to restore his own, rendering them unconscious. Hyness and the heroes resume their fight, with the former using the Mage-Sisters' unconscious bodies as living weapons. When they are defeated, Hyness sacrifices the Three Mage-Sisters, still unconscious, to the incomplete Jamba Heart on the altar, and soon dives into it himself, reviving Void as Void Termina, who sets out to destroy the universe.
When Kirby and friends face Void Termina, they go inside of him to battle his heart. They find the Three Mage-Sisters, along with Hyness, trapped inside internal cocoons. After releasing the core, everyone, including the Three Mage-Sisters and Hyness, are ejected out of Void Termina. The sisters and Hyness aren’t seen again until the story’s continuation in Heroes in Another Dimension.

After releasing the core, everyone, including the Three Mage-Sisters and Hyness, are ejected out of Void Termina. The sisters and Hyness aren’t seen again until the story’s continuation in Heroes in Another Dimension.
At some point after the events of the Main Story, it is revealed Hyness somehow fell into a portal to Another Dimension, and the Three Mage-Sisters pursue him. They finally find him a few moments after Kirby and friends defeat him. They lament over his current state, before directing their rage towards Kirby and friends. Now calling Kirby out by name for the first time, they launch an all-out attack on him and his friends, and after a hard-fought battle, they are defeated. If the player has collected 100 or more Friend Hearts, they all merge into one giant heart, which Kirby throws at the mages. If not, Kirby and friends simply walks away. After the Friend Heart is thrown at them, the sisters wake up and are restored to their original colors. After some thinking, they then nod their heads in agreement and presumably say a prayer of sorts, which turns the dark battlefield into a brightly-lit arena. The Warp Star then descends from the sky, and the heroes hop on. Before leaving, Kirby waves goodbye to the sisters and the Warp Star takes off, leaving behind a small heart that slowly falls onto Hyness. Hyness then wakes up, restored to his former glory, and the sisters run up to him in joy and presumably tell him what had happened as the screen fades to black. It is unknown if the sisters and Hyness decided to live on Planet Popstar with Kirby afterwards, but the 100% completion picture for Heroes in Another Dimension shows that they are now on good terms with each other.

The Three Mage-Sisters appear in said sub-game as the sixth and final boss, with the boss title of Repentant Retaliators. At some point after the events of the Main Story, Hyness began repeatedly performing chants and prayers to open a dimensional rift into Another Dimension, and fell into it after having done so. Hearing that he was swallowed by the rift, the Mage-Sisters enter Another Dimension as well to search for him. Zan Partizanne finally finds him a few moments after Kirby and friends defeat him. Bewildered by the current situation, she calls over Francisca and Flamberge after noticing the heroes. Flamberge shouts in shock before venting her anger at Kirby and friends, while Francisca attempts to calm her and laments over Hyness. Now with Zan Partizanne calling Kirby out by name for the first time, filled with repentance, they launch an all-out attack on him and his friends; however, after a hard-fought battle, they are defeated. If the player has collected 100 or more Friend Hearts, they all merge into one giant heart, which Kirby throws at the mages. If not, Kirby and friends simply walks away, and dark aura comes out from their body before the screen turns dark. Before leaving, Kirby waves goodbye to the sisters and the Warp Star takes off, leaving behind a small heart that slowly falls onto Hyness, purging the darkness within him. Hyness then wakes up, restored to his former glory, and the sisters run up to him in joy. They presumably make sure he is alright and tell him what had happened as the screen fades to black. It is unknown if the sisters and Hyness decided to live on Planet Popstar with Kirby afterwards, but the 100% completion picture for Heroes in Another Dimension shows that they are now on good terms with each other.

As a Dream Friend
The Three Mage-Sisters also appear as Dream Friends in Kirby Star Allies’s third update, where they are paired together as a single character. The player can switch between them at will, unlike the other paired Dream Friends. Each Mage-Sister has their own unique moveset, and their moves consist of attacks from their boss fights. They are locked until the player completes Heroes in Another Dimension with at least 100 Friend Hearts collected. All of them give a certain element as indicated by the element icon when selected; Francisca gives the Blizzard element (however, she also provides the Splash element with her Shaken Soda Blaster attack), Flamberge gives the Sizzle element, and Zan Partizanne gives the Zap element.

The Three Mage-Sisters appear in Kirby Fighters 2 as stage hazards in the Jambastion Entrance stage. They can be seen hovering in the background before one of them floats to the foreground to disrupt the ongoing battle. Each Mage-Sister has two attacks. Francisca can float to the lower corners of the stage and swing her axe four times before finishing off with a thrust, or she can float to the sides and turn her axe into a giant disk, sending it towards the opposite lower corner, damaging anyone on contact. Flamberge can float to the upper corners of the stage and swing her sword, sending fireballs flying in multiple directions, or she can float to the lower corners and summon her Mega Broiler, shooting a large stream of flames along the lower half of the stage after the rope burns completely. Lastly, Zan Partizanne can float to the center of the stage and create a thundercloud, firing two lightning bolts that strike the ground at her sides, or she can float to the sides of the stage and summon her giant ring contraption, charging up before firing three orbs of electricity to the center, creating a large explosion.

Trivia
Trivia
*Unlike other bosses, when any of the Mage-Sisters are defeated, instead of the Jamba Heart floating away, they grab it and take it with them.
+
*Unlike other bosses that drop Jamba Heart shards when defeated in Kirby Star Allies, instead of the shard flying away, the Mage-Sisters get back up and snatch the shard as they flee.
*While they are called "sisters" in the pause description of Hyness's second phase, the word might not necessarily mean that they are siblings. The word could be meant in a religious term, which is typically used to refer to nuns, seeing as how they are part of a religion themselves. More evidence that this is the case is that in Heroes in Another Dimension, Francisca refers to Flamberge as “Ms. Flamberge. It is normally unusual for siblings to use prefixes to address each other.
+
*While they are referred to as sisters, the word might not necessarily mean that they are siblings. The word could refer to a religious order, which is typically used to refer to nuns, as the three of them are priestesses. In the 5th Kirby Star Allies Channel update, General Director Shinya Kumazaki intentionally kept it ambiguous which one it is. Despite this, there are a few pieces of evidence that point to this being the case.
  +
**In an interview, Kumazaki stated that he wanted Zan Partizanne's name to sound as though she and the other two were of different births, which would at least imply no blood relation between Zan Partizanne and the other two.
**However, Nintendo published a poll asking fans which Nintendo family "would be the most fun," implying the mages as related sisters.

  +
**In another interview after the release of Kirby Star Allies, Kumazaki describes Francisca and Flamberge as "comrades" while discussing the topic of their relationship, which may imply that they are not siblings as well. Although, in the interview mentioned in the above point, he states that their names convey a sister-like connection to him:
  +
***Both of their Japanese names, フラン・キッス (Furan Kissu) and フラン・ルージュ (Furan Rūju), as well as the weapons they're based on, the francisca (フランキスカ furankisuka) and flamberge (フランベルジュ furanberuju) starting with フラン (Furan).
  +
***Flamberge's Japanese name ends with "rouge" and Francisca's Japanese name ends with "kiss," both words relating to lips.
  +
**In Heroes in Another Dimension, Francisca refers to Flamberge as “Ms. Flamberge.” It is normally unusual for siblings to address each other formally in an unironic manner. Similarly, in the Japanese version, none of the mages refer to one another with honorifics that would normally be used for siblings.
  +
**However, Nintendo of America published a poll on Siblings Day asking fans which Nintendo family (specifically siblings) "would be the most fun," and included "Francisca and her sisters." This suggests that the three of them might be siblings. Though, this was likely a misconception on Nintendo of America's part, as the poll was made before the aforementioned post on the Kirby Star Allies Channel.

*As the Three Mage-Sisters have very similar moves to each other, some of their maneuvers become questionable due to the weapons they wield.

It seems the fated time is here at last. We, the three Mage-Sisters, will bring this battle to its end... ONCE AND FOR ALL!
— Started by Zan Partizanne, continued by her and her sisters • Kirby Star Allies

Members

The blue Mage-Sister, named Francisca, wields a labrys, a double-sided axe, as her main weapon of choice, as well as a soda gun. She also specializes in ice magic. Francisca is the calmest of the Mage-Sisters, but she is also the most cruel and cold-blooded, keeping her frozen enemies as trophies in a collection. However, despite her cruelness, she is very kind and polite to her friends and allies. She has a close bond with Flamberge, missing her when spending time apart for a while.

History

Before the events of Kirby Star Allies, the Three Mage-Sisters were once ordinary girls on the brink of death. Francisca nearly froze to death in a snowstorm, Flamberge nearly suffocated in a fire, and Zan Partizanne nearly died after being struck by lightning while desperately climbing a tower after she lost everything. However, before they could depart from the world, Hyness arrived in the nick of time and saved their lives by granting them the powers of ice, fire, and electricity, respectively. Thus, the three of them became Hyness’s followers, admiring him for rescuing them.

Kirby Star Allies

Story

At the beginning of Kirby Star Allies, Hyness attempts to resurrect Void, the god of their religion, as Void Termina by breaking the seal of his vessel, the Jamba Heart. However, Hyness did not fully understand how to break the seal, and as a result, accidentally shattered the Jamba Heart, sending its shards across the galaxy. Thus, on behalf of Hyness, the Three Mage-Sisters set out on a mission to retrieve the Jamba Heart shards in order to resurrect Void.

They are unlocked when Heroes in Another Dimension is completed with an A or S rank. All of them give a certain element as indicated by the element icon when selected; Francisca gives the Blizzard element (however, she also provides the Splash element with her Shaken Soda Blaster attack), Flamberge gives the Sizzle element, and Zan Partizanne gives the Zap element.

Kirby Fighters 2

Cannon DAuJLJbVYAER17h This section contains information that does not coincide with the main series canon. (Similar)

If there is Kirby Star Allies save data on the Switch, Rare Hats of Francisca for Beam, Flamberge for Sword, and Zan Partizanne for Staff are unlocked.

SSBUl Spirit Fight Mage Sisters

Spirit battle

The Three Mage-Sisters appear as a single Advanced-class support spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate which can be obtained by fighting a team of three female Robins with the yellow, red, and pink (despite blue (due to Male Robin having his blue color palette) being the color of Francisca) palettes respectively. The Robins have increased power in their special moves. Their spirit, when applied, increases the applied user's power when using battering items.

The Jambastion Mages, who are the boss Generals, are referred to as "three sisters" in one of the pause screens. So are they actually siblings or members of a sisterhood of mages? Just like Kirby and Meta Knight's secrets, this is another mystery that stirs the imagination! In the Japanese version of the game, a pause screen says Zan Partizanne was taken in by Hyness, and had sworn loyalty to Hyness after she had received powerful magic. Comparing Hyness's true face and hers, it looks like they're from different races though.

Trivia

  • Unlike other bosses that drop Jamba Heart shards when defeated in Kirby Star Allies, instead of the shard flying away, the Mage-Sisters get back up and snatch the shard as they flee.
  • While they are referred to as sisters, the word might not necessarily mean that they are siblings.
    • In an interview, Kumazaki stated that he wanted Zan Partizanne's name to sound as though she and the other two were of different births,[2] which would at least imply no blood relation between Zan Partizanne and the other two.
    • In another interview after the release of Kirby Star Allies, Kumazaki describes Francisca and Flamberge as "comrades" while discussing the topic of their relationship,[3] which may imply that they are not siblings as well. Although, in the interview mentioned in the above point, he states that their names convey a sister-like connection to him:
      • Both of their Japanese names, フラン・キッス (Furan Kissu) and フラン・ルージュ (Furan Rūju), as well as the weapons they're based on, the francisca (フランキスカ furankisuka) and flamberge (フランベルジュ furanberuju) starting with フラン (Furan).
      • Flamberge's Japanese name ends with "rouge" and Francisca's Japanese name ends with "kiss," both words relating to lips.
    • In Heroes in Another Dimension, Francisca refers to Flamberge as “Ms. Flamberge.” It is normally unusual for siblings to address each other formally in an unironic manner. Similarly, in the Japanese version, none of the mages refer to one another with honorifics that would normally be used for siblings.
    • However, Nintendo of America published a poll on Siblings Day asking fans which Nintendo family (specifically siblings) "would be the most fun," and included "Francisca and her sisters." This suggests that the three of them might be siblings. Though, this was likely a misconception on Nintendo of America's part, as the poll was made before the aforementioned post on the Kirby Star Allies Channel.
  • As the Three Mage-Sisters have very similar moves to each other, some of their maneuvers become questionable due to the weapons they wield.
    • Francisca uses a thrusting attack despite wielding an axe, which is supposed to be used for chopping. A halberd would be suitable for thrusting, but it is classified as a pole-axe, not an axe.
    • Zan Partizanne uses slashing attacks despite wielding a partisan, a polearm that is designed for thrusting (although its protrusions were made to parry sword attacks).
    • As Flamberge's sword functions as both a longsword and a rapier, both slicing and thrusting moves are accurate to its usage.
  • The Three Mage-Sisters have elemental weaknesses, which can stun them while they are performing their special attacks. Francisca can be stunned when using a move with the Zap element on her soda beam attack, Flamberge can be stunned when using the Blizzard, Bluster, or Splash elements, as well as Artist or Adeleine's paint attacks, while charging her Mega Broiler, and Zan Partizanne can be stunned when using a Splash element or paint attack on her drums.
    • They can also be affected by their weakness during Hyness's second phase, although they can still hurt Kirby and the Star Allies when they are at the stage. However, they will recharge if Hyness pulls them back to him.
  • Each of the Mage-Sisters' weapons could represent one of the three main weapons of the Fire Emblem weapon triangle: Francisca has an axe, Flamberge has a sword, and Zan Partizanne has a lance.
  • As of Version 4.0.0, their boss form in Heroes in Another Dimension are the fourth overall boss whose name in the boss splash screen is shown to have flames, which was originally exclusive to Void Termina and Void Soul. The others are Corrupt Hyness and Void.
  • In Heroes in Another Dimension, if the player collects 99 or less Friend Hearts, then Kirby and his friends simply walk away, and a dark aura comes out from the Mage-Sisters' bodies before the screen turns dark. This could imply how they obtained their different colors when being fought in the sub-game.
  • When swapping between the Three Mage-Sisters as a Dream Friend, a unique animation will play. Instead of immediately turning into the Mage-Sister being swapped to, the sister being swapped to dashes in from behind and swings their weapon before giving a high-five to the current sister, who then quickly flies away into the sky.
  • The Three Mage-Sisters are the hosts that run the official Kirby Twitter account when it comes to content regarding Kirby Star Allies.
