Episode Summary[]

A flower

A little flower growing.

The episode starts in Whispy Woods Forest at night, where a beam of light shines down. A flower blossoms, and Whispy wakes up to see it in full bloom, and smiles happily. The next morning, Kirby, Tiff, and Tuff are on their way to see Whispy Woods. Tuff says that taking a hike to the forest is a great plan, and Tiff says that it will be great to see him again. Kirby takes a moment stop and take a look at a perplexing grasshopper. Tuff calls out to Kirby, and Tiff says that Kirby is supposed to lead them to the grove where Whispy dwells, and that he cannot distracted. The trio continue their trek. Elsewhere, in Dedede's tank, Escargoon and Dedede are watching them on the tank's monitor, and Escargoon says the children have no idea they have a robot grasshopper camera watching their every move. Dedede states it is perfect and that they will lead them to the grove where Whispy Woods dwells, with Escargoon saying they can extract vengeance on Whispy. The grasshopper robot follows after the children via Escargoon's camera controller. On a grassy plain nearby, Dedede places a golf course billboard in the ground and says that Whispy is through, that he will annihilate the forest once and for all, so that he can build his Deluxe Country Club before taking his saw and laughing. Elsewhere, in the grove, Tuff asks if Kirby is certain that he is leading them in the right direction. Luckily, Whispy is right before them, and he says they have met again. Tiff, Tuff, and Kirby are happy to see him as Kirby eagerly strides up to the great lord of the forest; Whispy points out that Kirby still likes apples, and Kirby climbs onto Whispy's branches and dines on some of the apples. Tuff tells Kirby to save some for him and Tiff, who asks how is everying going. Whispy says that the last time they met, the grove was in grave peril but everything is fine, and that Whispy is stronger than ever. In a flashback, Tuff remembers that Dedede tried to eliminate the whole grove, with Tiff saying that it was so he could build a silly old golf course. Whispy states that Kirby had swallowed one of his apples; when he released it, Whispy was restored, as well as all the other trees in the grove. He then finishes that thanks to them, he is more powerful than he ever was before. Tuff states there is no need for Whispy to thank them and to give them apples, but before he and Tiff can get close, Whispy orders them to stay back, knocking the two children off their feet. Tuff states that they thought they were friends. Whispy says that they nearly stepped on his new friend, which piques Tiff and Tuff's curiosity. Then, Tiff and Tuff notice the flower, with Tiff saying it is really beautiful, while Tuff questions what is so special about it, as the whole of Dream Land has lots of flowers. Whispy states not in the grove, as he has never seen a plant like this in the forest. Tiff states there is not enough sunlight, that the trees blot the sun with their branches as it is too shady on ground level for the flowers to grow. Whispy states he will rectify the problem and arches himself back, making Kirby and a selected apple fall to the ground. A beam of sunlight shines down onto the flower, which Tiff, Tuff, and Kirby notice. Then, Whispy grabs the fallen apple in one of his tree roots and squeezes the juice onto the flower.

Lovely Anime

Lovely with the ability to talk.

The flower grows beautifully; Whispy proudly states that now the flower will really grow. Tiff praises Whispy, saying it was a great idea. Whispy states that this flower is truly the most beautiful plant in the grove, that just looking at it makes him happy, and he vows to keep it blooming in the grove for as long as he is able. Tiff states that it is time to give it a name. Whispy agrees, stating that it should have a name. Tuff initially suggests Flo the Flower, but Tiff says they need to name it something much more original than that, and after thinking what name to give to a flower, decides to call it Lovely, which piques Whispy's curiosity. Tuff states what a romantic name for it, to which Tiff agrees with, stating that the flower's name to be Lovely. Whispy proudly agrees with the name. While gathering water from a stream, Tiff says that just form they way Whispy smiled, they could tell he has a crush on Lovely, something Tuff questions a crush on a flower. Tiff then her thoughts on it being good for Whispy to have a girlfriend. Tuff asks really. Tiff then says it must get boring in Whispy Woods with nothing but green trees every place, and that Lovely has brought new Whispy's world. Tuff dismisses this. Tiff says that Tuff will understand someday, stating her thought on Whispy having waited his whole life for someone to care for and now he has found Lovely. They then water the flower and form a barricade around it with rocks, with Tuff placing a cross out sign near it saying it should do the trick and promisng Whispy that Lovely is going to be safe now. Tiff says that if there is anying thing else Whispy needs help with they will be glad to pitch in. Elsewhere, in throne room of the castle, Escargoon and Dedede watch the whole thing through the camera monitor and laugh, and Dedede says Whispy has gone sappy over Lovely. Escargoon states this will surely give them a way to extract vengeance on Whispy, to which Dedede agrees with, stating they will slaughter Whispy with some flower power. Then, suddenly, back in the grove, a thunderstorm brews overhead, forcing Tuff, Kirby, and Tiff to take shelter under Whispy's branches. Tuff says the sky was clear a second ago. Whispy leans foward to keep Lovely safe. Tiff says that is true love, and Tuff says they have to get out of the rain before they get soaked. Tiff suggests setting up camp right in the forest. Whispy prays that the rain does not get any worse than this. The storm worsens, with strong winds rocking Dedede's golf course sign back and forth. In the grove, a bolt of lightning splits the sky followed by a clap of thunder, waking Tiff and Tuff up. Another lightning bolt splits, and Tiff realizes Lovely is still out there. Tiff and Tuff run out of the tent to Whispy. Kirby wakes up, and Tiff calls to Whispy that they will help keep Lovely safe. The crossout sign is swept away, and Kirby walks out of the tent and is nearly blown away himself. Luckily, Whispy catches him. Tiff suggests taking their tent down and using it to protect Lovely, Whispy raises his roots up for use as a bulwark as the children run to him and shield the flower with their tent. The next morning, the storm has subsided, and Whispy is pleased that Lovely is still alive before noticing that Tiff, Tuff, and Kirby are still asleep, but Dedede and Escargoon blind them with artificial fog from a fan, with Dedede saying that Lovely is about to be his house plant. Whispy says that Dedede cannot take Lovely, but Dedede counters that if Whispy drops an apple or two against him and Escargoon, Lovely will be squashed. Tuff says they cannot let Dedede and Escargoon get away with this, and Tiff tells Kirby to suck up the fog. Kirby removes the fog by inahaling it. When the fog is removed, Kirby sits from exhaustion, but terror strikes when Whispy asks where lovely is, meaning that she has been abducted by Dedede. In the throne room, Dedede turns the transmitter on, and the N.M.E. Sales Guy greets him and asks what is up. When Escargoon places Lovely on the transmitter, the salesman says they should not have. Dedede requests for the salesman to change it into a monster. The salesman asks why waste a penny on a pansy when Dedede can choose from the meanest monster collection in the universe. Escargoon replies that Whispy Woods has been flippy over Lovely. The salesman states that Whispy has an odd taste in girlfirends, stating he has been in the woods too long. Dedede request to hybridize a flower monster, to which the salesmon obliges. When the transformation begins, Escargoon says this should be interesting. Tiff, Tuff, and Kirby go to Dedede's room and take back Lovely. While searching his room, they find a map of Dedede's country club on the wall and take a look at it. Tiff says it is the map of Dedede's golf course, and Tuff angrily figures out that Dedede is still trying to eradicate the forest before Tiff shushes him. Kirby and friends find Lovely on Dedede's window sill, unaware that she may be a monster, so the three children liberate her from the window sill and run from the castle to the grove, watched by Dedede and Escargoon from the closet and the doorframe in the process. Dedede says it is a whole in one. Escargoon agrees, saying the children are way below par, prompting them to chuckle. In the grove, the children replant Lovely in her spot, which Whispy thanks them for. Tiff states they are glad to be of help, while Tuff questions why Dedede would swipe her away. The flower then states she is a very special flower, shocking the children. Whispy ponders who spoke, while Tiff fearfully states it was not her. The speaker is Lovely, and she turns to meet the children. Tiff learns Lovely can speak now, to which Tuff questions why she never spoke before as Lovely interoduces herself to Whispy. Tiff and Tuff are flabbergasted as they are unable to believe this. Lovely expresses graditude to Whispy for looking after her, to which Whispy states he had no clue that flowers could speak like some of his kin can. Lovely states that she is pleased that she can so she can see how wonderful he is. Whispy states this is quite amazing, to which they share a laugh. Tuff suspiciously states there is something odd with Lovely since she was liberated from the castle keep, to which Tiff agrees with. Tuff then states that Dedede had something to do with it, though Tiff requests he play it cool. Lovely introduces herself to Kirby, asking to be her friend. Kirby jumps up and down before Tiff grabs him by the arm, and she and Tuff bid farewell to Whispy and Lovely and leave, as Whispy bids farewell while thanking them.

Lovely2

Lovely as a monster

Meanwhile, on the castle balcony, it is dusk, and Sir Ebrum tells Fololo and Falala that he and Lady Like are becoming concerned about the children. Lady Like says that they have been out all day long, and Sir Ebrum says it is nearly nightfall. Lady Like states they do not mean to be worry warthogs but what if the children had gotten lost. Fololo says he and Falala will check it out, and Falala say to Sir Ebrum and Lady Like not to worry, that they will find them, and they fly off to look for the children. later that night, in the forest, as Lovely is sleeping, Whispy's energy is suddenly dropping since he's losing apples and leaves, making Lovely larger. Tiff, Tuff, and Kirby sneak back into the grove with trowels, only to get caught by Lovely when she wakes up and snarls what they are doing there. Tiff and Tuff try to make some excuses, but Whispy wakes up himself, asking if something is wrong. Lovely says Tiff, Tuff and Kirby have shovels, and Whispy demands to know what is going on in the grove. Tiff fibs that they were going to relocate Lovely to a better spot in the grove so she can grow better, with Tuff finishing that Lovely does not get enough sunelight. Lovely states she wants to stay in the grove, planted next to Whispy for eternity. Tiff states that Dedede might have somehow mutated Lovely into a beast, with Tuff saying she could not speak until he changed her. Whispy calls this ridiculous and angrily asks why Dedede would do that, and Tuff replies that Dedede wants to expunge the entire grove and wants to build a golf course like before. Whispy states that even if the grove is in danger it does not make Lovely a monster. Tiff bravely says they cannot take the chance, stating to Lovely that they will dig out the real story. Feeling threatened, Lovely tells Whispy to stop them, so Whispy traps them with his tree roots. Tuff requests to be let down. Whispy states he cannot let anyone harm Lovely, but Tiff states she is trying to trick him. Suddenly, Lovely grows larger and stronger, something Tuff notices when he states something odd is going on with the flower. Lovely wraps her vines on Whispy's branches and says she needs his help to grow stronger, further draining his life energy. Whispy weakly calls to Lovely, while Tiff pleads for Whispy to not fall asleep. Lovely continues to enlarge until her face turns from goldenrod to dark violet with green eyelids and orange highlights, her eyes turn ruby red, her lips turn light purple, a pair of sharp teeth appear from her mouth, and a set of ten razor sharp golden blades appear behind her petals in place of the golden ones, and she gives a horrific laugh. Elsewhere, on a large cliff above the grove, Dedede and Escargoon are watching through the tank's camera monitor, with Escargoon stating that Lovely is draining Whispy's life force dry as they had planned. Dedede states that Whispy is a goner, to which Escargoon replies that true love has made Whispy into a wimp. Dedede finishes that soon Whispy will be nothing but a hollow stump, and then it will be goodbye to the forest and hello to the fairway, unaware that Fololo and Falala are eyeing them from the tank's container. Back in the grove, Tiff pleads for Whispy to fight back. Whispy weakly protests that she is not a monster. Tiff replies she is and she is going to drain his life energy and kill him. Whispy states that they need to understand that he will not fight back against Lovely and that he would rather die. Tiff states that Dedede is going to destroy the grove. Five of Whispy's followers plead for help and that they are in peril. Tiff pleads again, with Tuff saying Lovely is a monster. Whispy tries to protest that Lovely is no monster, but she keeps draining his energy way. Whispy screams in pain as his leaves flicker from the energy sucked from him, and he must let Tiff, Tuff, and Kirby go when his roots droop to the forest floor. Tuff checks on Tiff to make sure she is alright. Back on the cliff, Dedede watches this through the grasshopper and sees that the group has escaped, saying he and Escargoon have got to stop them, and tells him to step on it. Escargoon replies he is stepping on it, but Fololo and Falala interfere with their driving by blocking their line of sight with their hands, forcing them down the hill. Fololo and Falala take the controller and jam the controls, making it explode in midair. Tuff notices that the grasshopper is actually a camera, and Tiff shows the remnants to Whispy, saying that Dedede was spying on them the entire time, with Tuff saying Dedede must have turned Lovely into a monster. Whispy states that even if that is true Lovely has done nothing wrong. Tuff states they are wasting time and charges ahead, with Tiff following, and the two try to stop Lovely from doing any further damage, with Tuff saying they have to stop Lovely. But Lovely is too big and strong, and she tosses them right into Whispy's trunk and says that nothing they can do will keep her away from Whispy. She tries to impale Tiff and Tuff with her vines, but Whispy blocks her attack with his roots, pleading her to not hurt his friends. Lovely withdraws her vines and counters that the children cannot possibly mean more than she does. Whispy states of course they do not and tries to get her to understand. Suddenly, a cannonball is fired toward Whispy and explodes, catching everyone, including Lovely, offguard and severing a piece of one of Whispy's roots. Dedede and Escargoon have arrived on the scene, and Dedede states it is time to put Whispy in a compost heap where he belongs and reveals that Fololo and Falala have been captured in a net, shocking Tiff and Tuff. Dedede says that it is time to blow Whispy into toothpicks and fires another cannonball. Kirby catches the cannonball in his mouth while being pushed back, to Dedede and Escargoon's horror, and tosses it right back at Dedede and Escargoon. The explosion from the cannonball obliterates the tank, launching Escargoon and Dedede high into the air, and Fololo and Falala are liberated. The silhouettes of Escargoon and Dedede fly across the full moon.

Lovely

Dangerous flower

Lovely then attempts to kill Tiff, Tuff, and Kirby by slashing them with her blades. Whispy requests the children to get behind him as he will protect them, to which Tiff and Tuff do so. One of the blades lacerates Whispy on the side of his trunk, inflicting a terrible wound and causing him to groan in agony. The blade returns to Lovely, and she taunts Whispy that he is powerless to stop her because she has grown too strong now. Despite the pain, Whispy begs Kirby to stop Lovely. Snarling angrily, Lovely looses another blade, which Kirby inhales and becomes Cutter Kirby. Lovely looses four more blades Kirby's way. Kirby tosses his cutter at Lovely, knocking the blades on the ground, but she shields herself with her petals, making the cutter bounce off and return back to Kirby, and she looses the rest of her blades. Kirby deflects the other four blades, but is spun out when the tenth and final blade flies right past him and returns to Lovely. Luckily, Kirby regains his footing and tosses his cutter overhead, shocking Lovely. When Kirby rushes forward, the silver cutter pivots around and knocks the blade off Lovely's head, and Kirby jumps over, catches his cutter, and delivers the lethal throwing blow to Lovely's stem, leaving her mortally wounded, and she collapses. The others celebrate, with Tuff stating it is the end of Lovely, but they all notice that Whispy is heartbroken. Fortunately, Lovely comforts him, vowing she will return one day, and that she will not be a monstrous beast any longer before passing away, which makes Whispy smile with hope. The next morning, Tiff calls to Tuff, and the trio head back to the forest to see Whispy Woods, followed by the forest animals, when they notice an entire patch of flowers. A newly healed Whispy wakes up and notices the flower patch. Tiff elatedly says that Lovely did return, and Tuff adds there is now a whole bunch of flowers. Tiff then says that thanks to Lovely, there will be beautiful flowers in the grove for eternity. Whispy smiles happily at the flowers and expresses graditude to Lovely for keeping her vow. Kirby leaps over the flower patch, but Whispy catches him in one of his tree roots. Tiff and Tuff laugh heartiy as the animals look on, and Whispy places Kirby in front of the flower patch. The story irises to a close as Kirby smiles heartily.

Changes in the dub[]

  • Whispy Woods narrates at the beginning of the episode, but not in the 4Kids dub.
  • In the Japanese dub, the sign that Tuff puts down says, "Off limits." In the 4Kids dub, the words were airbrushed out and replaced with a cross-out sign, but the words can be seen in one scene later.
  • After Tiff suggests camping in the woods, Kirby cries out "camp" few times. In the dub, this was replaced with "poyo."
  • All the words on Dedede's golf course map were airbrushed out, but at one point before the whole map is visible, the words are still there.

Trivia[]

  • This is one of the three episodes in which someone falls in love (the others are A Fish Called Kine and A Princess in Dis-Dress).
  • The Japanese dub of this episode is the first to use a different opening and closing:
    • Sword and Stone Kirby have been replaced with Cook and Ice Kirby respectively in the opening. Ice Kirby also looks angry while Stone Kirby looks heroic.
    • Kihon wa Maru takes place in some sort of alley rather than on a brick wall. The new ending also has Kirby and Dedede drawn on the left side while the old ending has them drawn on the right side.
    • This is the first time King Dedede has asked Nightmare Enterprises to turn something into a monster. The second time is in Goin' Bonkers, where he asks to turn Bonkers into a monster.
  • This is the second episode in which Kirby speaks his name, with the first one being Kirby Comes to Cappy Town.
  • This is the first and the only episode in which Lovely gets a speaking role, as she loses her ability to speak after being defeated.
