That boss is a clearly spoof of mangá and anime series Mazinger Z created by Go Nagai.

That's a spoof of the titular mecha, not entire series.[]
Mazinger Z is a giant robot which must be piloted by attaching an aircraft named the 'Pilder".
The way which King Dedede uses his own aircraft to pilot Dededestroyer Z is pretty much how Kouji Kabuto does to pilot Mazinger Z.
The "Z" made the spoof rather obvious despite already featuring similarities in function.

There was a trivia about the character name, but it seems that someone edited out.
But, as I said the character is a spoof of Mazinger Z super robot of the series of same name.
Even the way which is piloted is similar to the way which Mazinger Z is piloted.

- Having just browsed through this page's history, I didn't find any mention on the Trivia about Mazinger Z on this page. But if it actually was there, and just isn't showing due to some technical difficulties, just add it back. Probably drop a few links to Wikipedia and/or the Wikia of the series you're talking about so you can strengthen the point you're trying to make as well when doing so. Meta Kirby52
