Swell Snoozroot is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby Mass Attack. It is a variant of Snoozroot.
Physical Appearance[]
Swell Snoozroot is a purple plant enemy with a long segmented bead-like stem with two leaves at its base. It has an ovular head, yellow cheek blushes, large yellow lips, and a red bow on the top of its head. While preparing to fire venom, its head swells up, turning dark red in color.
Games[]
Kirby Mass Attack[]
Swell Snoozroot appears exclusively in Stage 2 of Green Grounds. Like other Snoozroot variants, it is found sleeping. When the Kirbys approach, it awakens and begins charging its attack. Its head gradually swells to a huge size before the creature points its lips skyward and spits a burst of venomous globs into the air. The three globs drift down with green propellers and pop when they hit the ground. If a Kirby is hit by venom, he gets encapsulated and flails wildly; the player has only a few seconds to rescue him by rapidly tapping him. If he is not rescued, he is KO'd.
Swell Snoozroot can be easily defeated with just a few Kirbys or repeated attacks from one. It is less vulnerable when its head is swollen; in fact, when it spits venom, any Kirby clinging to its head it launched.
Etymology[]
Its Japanese name, ウトプク (Utopuku), comes from the Japanese name of Snoozroot, ウトウト (Utouto), which comes from the Japanese onomatopoeia for dozing off; and the Japanese onomatopoeia for swelling, プク/ぷく (puku), referring to its head swelling before releasing bursts of venom into the sky.
