Revision as of 20:01, 8 January 2015

Starman is a rare type of enemy native to Dream Land. They are currently the only enemies in the series that bestow the Hi-Jump ability when inhaled.

A sticker of a Starman also appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The sticker boosts the Launch Power of Kirby, Meta Knight, and King Dedede.

They also make a brief appearance in the sub-game Kirby Brawlball in Kirby Mass Attack.

Physical Appearance

Starmen resemble tan, star-shaped creatures that wear a lengthy blue superhero cape, which is tethered together by a red, gem-like brooch.

Games

Kirby's Adventure and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land

Starmen are usually encountered walking around peacefully, and may jump when least expected. They are also seen heroically gliding around the sky at times.

In addition to being a common enemy, one can also be seen in the Butter Building Museum, and others are summoned by Kracko during the boss battle of Grape Garden.

Kirby: Squeak Squad

Starmen appear the same they did as they did in previous installments and behave the same way. In the 3rd level, Cushy Clouds, Mecha Kracko often summons Starmen to battle when Kirby faces him.

Kirby Mass Attack

Starmen appears in the sub-game Kirby Brawlball as a board element. Their appearance remains unchanged from previous games. In fact, some of their sprites are the same ones used in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land and Kirby: Squeak Squad, though there are a few new animations that were added.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land

Starmen act much like they do in other games, but they now fly in a bit straighter path and are a much rarer enemy. They also appear in the Hi-Jump Challenge.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

Starman appears as an enemy in the downloadable Kirby Fighters Deluxe. It is found in the Butter Building stage. The foe attacks by leaping at the Kirbys.

In the Super Smash Bros. series

A trophy of Starman exists in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Like several other Kirby trophies in the game, the enemy uses its 3D model from Kirby's Return to Dream Land.

Trivia

  • The name Starman may reference the enemy of the same name from the Mother series (most notably EarthBound, which HAL also worked on). It also shares a name with a power-up from the Super Mario series.
  • In the sub-game Megaton Punch in Kirby Super Star and its remake, some Starmen can be spotted in the crowd.
