— Pound stakes down! • Kirby Star Allies loading screen |
A Stake,[1] also called a Peg or Post,[2] is a Device in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby's Adventure.
Physical Appearance[]
Stakes are wooden cylinders with a slightly worn end on the top. They're always seen embedded in a surface, most frequently the ground.
Games[]
Kirby's Adventure and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[]
Hammer and Stone are the only Copy Abilities that can pound Stakes.
In Meta Knightmare, Meta Knight can pound Stakes.
Butter Building[]
The first Stake appears in Stage 5. After defeating Bonkers and obtaining Hammer, Kirby can pound the Stake in the next room to get a Maxim Tomato and a 1UP.
Grape Garden[]
In Stage 6, three Stakes can be found together in a room, along with a Rocky to obtain Stone from to pound them. The first Stake destroys terrain that allows access to the other two Stakes, and the other two Stakes cause items in the two holes to their left to be pushed upward; a 1UP is included in the lower hole, so pounding the third Stake will raise it to the upper hole, and pounding the second Stake after that will raise the 1UP to ground level, allowing it to be obtained.
Yogurt Yard[]
In Stage 3, two Stakes appear in an optional room, along with a Rocky for Stone; pounding the Stake to the left gives access to a Maxim Tomato, and pounding the one to the right gives access to a 1UP, but also destroys the floor beneath.
Orange Ocean[]
In Stage 2, a Stake can be found in a room with two Sparkys; a Rocky for Stone can be found in a secret area earlier in the stage, and getting Mix from the Sparkys in the room and letting it stop results in Hammer. Pounding the Stake gives access to the room with the stage's Big Switch.
Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra[]
In Kirby Super Star, Stakes do not have collision, and the player can simply walk past one instead of having to go over it; this was changed in Kirby Super Star Ultra to give it collision again, and it does not behave like this in any other entries.
As in Kirby's Adventure and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, Hammer and Stone are the only Copy Abilities that can pound Stakes, although only certain techniques from these abilities will pound them; Hammer, Giant Swing, Ultra-Giant Swing, and Hammer Flip for Hammer; and Stone Smash for Stone.
As Hammer and Stone are the only Copy Abilities that can pound Stakes, Bonkers and Rocky are the only Helpers that can pound Stakes.
Mine Carts can pound Stakes.
In Meta Knightmare Ultra, Meta Knight can pound Stakes.
Dyna Blade[]
Mallow Castle[]
After defeating Bonkers and obtaining Hammer, Kirby can pound the Stake in the next room, causing a portion of the castle to be destroyed, but revealing a door to a room with three 1UPs.
Candy Mountain[]
A Stake can be found in the upper path. Continuing upward will lead to a Hammer Copy Essence, which can be used to obtain Hammer and pound the Stake by backtracking down; pounding the Stake gives an alternate path to the end of the room using Cannons, as well as rewarding a 1UP.
The Great Cave Offensive[]
Old Tower Area[]
A Stake is located on the first floor of the tower in the leftmost room. Assuming the player is getting all of the Treasures in order, the last occurrence of Hammer was from Bonkers in the Sub-Tree Area, and the last occurrence of Stone was from Fatty Whale, also in the Sub-Tree Area. If the player has not held onto either of these two abilities up to this point, other areas of the Old Tower will need to be explored to obtain these abilities. Hammer can be obtained from Bonkers by entering either of the Old Tower's entrances, entering the door to the right, and continuing for two more rooms; Stone can be obtained from Rocky by entering the Old Tower's second floor and entering the door to the left. Pounding this Stake is required to obtain three of game's Treasures: the Koopa Shell, Falchion, and Warrior Shield.
Later in the Old Tower Area, another Stake appears, this time under a Rope and step. Still assuming the player is obtaining all treasures in order, Kirby will have Stone, and needs a Helper that can cut the Rope, with Bio Spark and Sir Kibble being the easiest candidates, as they are found within the Old Tower (both on the first floor; Bio Spark is found in the first floor entrance room, and Sir Kibble is found in the room just to the right of the entrance room). Once the Rope has been cut, Stone can use Stone Smash to pound the Stake. Pounding this Stake is required to obtain the King's Robe.
Revenge of Meta Knight[]
Chapter 3[]
Kirby fights against twin Bonkers, allowing him to obtain Hammer. After destroying three Bomb Blocks, Kirby can go to the right and pound a Stake leading to a Maxim Tomato, 1UP and another Stake; pounding the second Stake will lead to an alcove with Copy Essences for Mirror, Parasol, and Ninja.
Milky Way Wishes[]
Hotbeat[]
There's a room with several Mine Carts to traverse the lava; some of them pound Stakes, most of which cause more lava to appear, strongly discouraging backtracking in the areas this occurs, but otherwise don't cause many issues with progressing forward; one of the Stakes in particular causes lava to fill up a bottomless pit, making it beneficial. At a split path, there are a couple of Stakes on the upper path, to which the player should avoid using the Mine Carts, as pounding these Stakes will prevent access to a Maxim Tomato and 1UP.
Cavius[]
Kirby fights Bonkers for the Hammer Copy Essence Deluxe. After obtaining the Copy Essence Deluxe, Kirby can pound the Stake in the area to the right, rewarding the player with three food items, a Maxim Tomato, and a 1UP.
Halfmoon[]
There's another room with Mine Carts and Stakes. Poudning these Stakes simply opens the way forward by destroying walls in the way.
Revenge of the King[]
Illusion Islands[]
Kirby can obtain Stone from Rocky in the cave area. In the next room, there is a Stake that can be pounded, rewarding a food item. However, in a small alcove to the left of the Stake, the player can enter a secret area to fight Mr. Tick-Tock. After defeating Mr. Tick-Tock and continuing to the right, it is revealed that this is actually a HAL Room, which additionally rewards the player with a Maxim Tomato, 1UP, and Candy.
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[]
Hammer, Stone, Smash, and Master are the only Copy Abilities that can pound Stakes, although only the Hammer and Stone techniques work for Smash.
Moonlight Mansion[]
In room 6 (the room right of the left Goal room), Kirby can Super Inhale Giant Rocky for Stone. Continue down the slope to the right, then destroy the Star Blocks below to get to the Stake; pounding the Stake allows access to a Treasure Chest containing a 1UP.
In the room two right of the third Rainbow Route mirror, Kirby can take enter the mirror in the top right of the room by destroying the Metal Blocks in front of it with either Missile from Bang-Bang (obtained from room 6 of Rainbow Route) or Burning from Flamer (obtained from the room right and down from the third Rainbow Route mirror, otherwise requires Missile to obtain). In the next room, Kirby can obtain Burning (if he doesn't already have it) and continue upward to the next room. In the next room, Kirby can use Burning to destroy some Metal Blocks to the left to obtain a Maxim Tomato and fight Bonkers to obtain Hammer. After defeating Bonkers and obtaining Hammer, Kirby can pound the Stake that appears soon afterward, destroying the Explosion Blocks and allowing Kirby to obtain a 1UP.
Cabbage Cavern[]
In the room left the second Rainbow Route mirror, Kirby can fight Bonkers to obtain Hammer. Going to the room to the right, there is a Stake that can be found by going to the right and floating upward instead of destroying the Bomb Block; pounding it grants access to a Battery and Meat.
In room 12 (the room right of the second Rainbow Route mirror) is a second Stake; pounding it allows access to a Treasure Chest containing a 1UP, as well as a UFO for the UFO Copy Ability, which can use Piercing Heat Beam to destroy the Metal Blocks to the right.
In the room below the second Rainbow Route mirror is a third Stake. Using Hammer from Bonkers or Stone from Rocky in the room to the left, Kirby can pound the Stake and destroy a Bomb Block to gain access to a Battery and a Cherry food item, as well as a mirror leading to the room below; entering the mirror takes Kirby to an area with two 1UPs, but they cannot be obtained this way, as Kirby cannot fall through the platform he's standing on.
In room 18 (the room right and down of the leftmost Rainbow Route mirror), Kirby can obtain Stone from Giant Rocky, or alternatively from the right Copy Pedestal in the leftmost Rainbow Route mirror room. To the left is a fourth stake, and to the right is a fifth Stake. By skipping the fifth Stake, going up, activating the Switch, going through the Shutter to the left, and destroying the Bomb Block, Kirby can access the fourth Stake; pounding it allows access to a Treasure Chest containing the Sapphire Spray Paint.
Still in room 18, pounding the fifth Stake allows access to a one-way mirror to room 19 of Cabbage Cavern. Entering the mirror to room 19 and destroying the Bomb Block allows access to a Treasure Chest containing a 1UP; if the player takes the path upward after the second reachable Bomb Block, Kirby can obtain the aforementioned two 1UPs.
Olive Ocean[]
In the room right of the second Cabbage Cavern mirror, go the mirror to the room below by dropping into the water before the Mirra. After traveling through three rooms, Kirby enters room 16 of Olive Ocean, where he comes across a Sparky, a Sword Knight, a Stake, and then Bonkers. After defeating Bonkers and obtaining Hammer, Kirby can backtrack to the Stake; pounding the Stake allows access to a Large Treasure Chest containing the Olive Ocean Area Map.
Peppermint Palace[]
In the room left, then up, then left of the Rainbow Route mirror, Kirby can obtain Stone from Rocky. By continuing to the left and entering the mirror to the room to the left, Kirby can pound a Stake, allowing access to a one-way mirror to room 13. In room 13, Kirby can obtain a Treasure Chest containing the Happy Notes.
In room 19 (the room three right of the boss room), Kirby can obtain Stone from Giant Rocky. Destroying the top Bomb Block allows access to a Maxim Tomato and the Stake; pounding the Stake destroys the Explosion Blocks to the left, revealing a Treasure Chest containing the Pink Spray Paint.
In the room two right of the boss room is a second Stake; pounding it allows access to an Energy Drink, Meat, a Battery, and a 1UP.
Radish Ruins[]
In the room three right of the left Cabbage Cavern mirror, enter the mirror to the room above (can only be accessed by entering the room from the left); there is a Stake in this room, but no ability in the area to pound it yet. Ascend the room and enter the next mirror. Use Wheel and go to the left to the one-way mirror. In the next room, obtain Hammer from Bonkers and enter the one-way mirror to the right. Return back to the room three right of the left Cabbage Cavern mirror (destroying the Metal Blocks to the right serves as a shortcut). Stand on the Crumble Blocks to fall down to the Stake; pounding it destroys the Explosion Blocks below, revealing a one-way mirror to room 4 of Radish Ruins. Entering the mirror allows access to a Large Treasure Chest containing Vitality. Alternatively, the player can obtain Stone from the right Copy Pedestal in the Radish Ruins mirror room in Cabbage Cavern, then continue to the left for three rooms to reach the Stake.
Candy Constellation[]
In the room left then right of the Rainbow Route mirror, Kirby can obtain Stone from Rocky. In the bottom right of the room is a Stake; pounding it allows access to a mirror to room 7 of Candy Constellation. Entering the mirror allows access to a Large Treasure Chest containing the Sound Player.
In the right Goal room of Candy Constellation, Kirby can obtain Hammer from Bonkers. Take the Warp Star back to Central Circle. Enter the Candy Constellation mirror, then enter the right mirror. In the top left of the room to the right of the Rainbow Route mirror is a Stake; pounding it destroys the Explosion Blocks below it and causes a mirror to appear. Continue to the left, destroying the Metal Blocks to make avoiding the Gordos easier, and enter the mirror to room 12 of Candy Constellation. Defeat Phan Phan and continue to the left to a Large Treasure Chest containing Vitality.
Kirby: Canvas Curse[]
Stone is the only Copy Ability that can pound Stakes.
Dedede Ball can pound Stakes with his Giant Dedede Swing, even though it's horizontal.
In Paint Panic, Paint Roller can draw a Stake.
Iello Adventure[]
Rift Ruin[]
Kirby can obtain Stone from Rocky in the fourth room. Soon after is an optional door partially hidden by foreground objects. Entering this door leads to room with the orange Big Switch that destroys the orange Action Blocks in Reddy Land's Tiny Town, Arange Gorge's Ghost Grounds, and Iello Adventure's Rift Ruin. Using Stone, Kirby can pound the Stake above the Big Switch, allowing him to activate it and destroy the Action Blocks. This effectively allows the player to obtain two medals: Tiny Town's second medal and Ghost Grounds's third medal.
Contrast Cave[]
Kirby can obtain Stone from Rocky in the second room. After the room's second Checkpoint, Kirby can go to the left and pound a Stake leading to an area further to the left. Here, he can get Crash from a Bomber and activate a Switch near the bottom of the room to get the stage's second medal; as this medal requires activating the Switch that is otherwise out of reach, Dedede Ball cannot be used to get this medal.
Silver Submarine[]
Kirby can obtain Stone from Rocky in the first room. In this area is a Stake, and pounding it allows Kirby to fall into a pool of water where the stage's first medal is.
Rainbow Run[]
Stone B Special Course[]
There is a Stake near the end that is required to pound to reach the end of the course.
Kirby: Squeak Squad[]
Hammer, Metal, Magic, and Triple Star are the only Copy Abilities that can pound Stakes, although only certain techniques from these abilities will pound them; Hammer, Giant Swing, and Giant Hammer for Hammer; Hip Attack and Ballification (if falling from high enough) for Metal; Jack-in-the-Box for Magic; and any of Triple Star's attacks (if the Three-Star Cane makes contact). Kirby's Quick Fall attack with Hammer can also pound Stakes.
Nature Notch[]
The first Stake appears in the Secret Stage. After defeating Bonkers and obtaining Hammer, Kirby can pound the Stake that appears soon afterward; pounding it reveals a door to a room with the stage's first Treasure Chest, which contains a Graphic Piece, and a Cherry bubble.
Vocal Volcano[]
In Stage 3, after defeating Bonkers and obtaining Hammer, Kirby can pound the Stake in the next room, allowing him to obtain the stage's first Treasure Chest, which contains a Graphic Piece.
In the Secret Stage, there are some Stakes in the rooms through the first door and the third door. By entering the fourth door, Kirby can obtain an Ice Ability bubble to cool off the lava and extinguish the fire traps. By entering the second door, Kirby can obtain a Metal Ability bubble to become immune to the hazards, as well as pound Stakes. By entering the third door, Kirby can obtain a Hammer Ability bubble to pound Stakes, but this requires traveling one lava and through flames; the aforementioned Ice or Metal abilities can be used to traverse this; a Stake can be pounded to take a shortcut to the beginning of the room, thus requiring using the Metal or recently-obtained Hammer ability. By entering the first door, Kirby enters a room where pounding a Stake is required to continue through the room, which leads to a series of branching paths where two Stakes can be pounded, one on the left and one on the right. Pounding the various Stakes in the room allow the player to obtain a Treasure Chest (which contains the Animal Copy Palette) a Cupid Ability bubble, a Random bubble, and a Cherry.
Ice Island[]
In Stage 3, there is a Stake the grants access to a Treasure Chest, but no ability in the stage to pound it yet. By destroying the Star Blocks to the left and entering the door that was hidden by them, Kirby can take a path downward that leads to a room with Cannons. Shoot downward while in the Cannon to enter a room with a Hammer Ability bubble in it; by returning to the Cannon room, Kirby will be shot upward by all of the Cannons, leading back to the area with the Stake in it, allowing Kirby to obtain the stage's first Treasure Chest, which contains the Fighter Ability Scroll.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[]
In addition to normal Stakes, Big Stakes also exist.
Hammer and Stone are the only Copy Abilities that can pound Stakes, although only certain techniques from these abilities will pound them; Hammer, Triple Hammer, Giant Swing, and Ultra-Giant Swing for Hammer; Stone Change, Stone Smash, and Heavy Smash for Stone.
King Dedede can pound Stakes, although, like Hammer, only Hammer, Triple Dedede Hammer, and Midair Hammer Swing will work.
The Stomper Boot item can pound Stakes.
Grand Hammer is the only Super Ability that can pound Big Stakes.
Raisin Ruins[]
The first Stake appears in Stage 2. Kirby can obtain Stone from Rocky or a Stone Copy Essence in the second room; partway through is a Stake that can be pounded to destroy Explosion Blocks to reveal a round-trip door. In the optional room is another Stake that can be pounded to destroy Explosion Blocks to the right, although this also causes Unbreakable Blocks to appear that can get in the way; moving quickly to bypass the Unbreakable Blocks will allow the player to obtain the stage's first Energy Sphere.
White Wafers[]
In Stage 2, Kirby can obtain Stone from Rocky in the third, fourth, or fifth room, as well as from a Copy Essence in the fourth room. In the fifth room is a Stake that can pounded that lowers part of the floor, revealing three food items: cherries, a pineapple, and grapes, in preparation for the fight against Super Bonkers.
Still in Stage 2, after obtaining Grand Hammer, Kirby can pound three Big Stakes in the sixth room. Pounding the first Big Stake lowers the stair-like floor, providing five Point Stars and two food items: pizza, hotcakes, and meat. Pounding the second Big Stake raises five ground objects to fill in the bottomless pit ahead and provide three Point Stars, as well as two platforms to protect from the icicles above. Pounding the third Big Stake causes five ceiling objects to fall, filling in the bottomless pit ahead and providing five Point Stars, as well as defeating the four Scarfys ahead. All three of these Big Stakes only require the standard Grand Hammer technique to be pounded.
Nutty Noon[]
In Stage 2, after defeating Moundo and obtaining Stone, Kirby will come across three Stakes soon afterward. Pounding the first and second Stakes will destroy the Explosion Blocks below, but pounding the third Stake will instead cause Unbreakable Blocks to appear below; by pounding only the first two Stakes, Kirby can open the path to the stage's second Energy Sphere.
In Stage 4, the Stomper Boot is used to pound some Stakes in the first room. Pounding the first and second Stakes destroy three Explosion Blocks each, replacing them with three Point Stars each. Pounding the third Stake destroys three Explosion Blocks, replacing them with two Red Point Stars and one Blue Point Star for a total of 50 Point Stars.
Still in Stage 4, Kirby fights Super Bonkers in the third room, allowing him to obtain Grand Hammer. In the fourth room are three Big Stakes. Pounding the first Big Stake causes the three ground and ceiling objects to lower to create a stairway downward, providing nine Point Stars and a food item: a doughnut. Pounding the second Big Stake causes the four ground objects and three ceiling objects to lower to create a stairway downward, providing ten Point Stars and two Red Point Stars for a total of 30 Point Stars, and two doughnut food items. Pounding the third Big Stake, which is between two giant Strike Boxes that need to be destroyed, causes the ground and ceiling to rise upward like an elevator, as well as providing fifteen Point Stars and a doughnut food item; this also leads to the Giant Spring, which requires using the Super Hammer Plus to fully compress and leads to the stage's dimensional rift where the third and fourth Energy Spheres are located. All three of these Big Stakes require multiple uses of the Grand Hammer or Hammer Plus techniques to be pounded, or can be pounded in one hit with the Super Hammer Plus. Due to pounding the Big Stakes changing the course of travel in the stage, skipping one requires leaving the room and forfeiting any of the rewards that follow.
In Stage 5, entering the secret area eventually leads to a fight against Bonkers & Moundo, allowing Kirby to obtain either Hammer or Stone. In the next room are two Stakes; pounding the first one raises the floor to reveal two 1UPs and a Red Point Star, and pounding the second one raises the floor to reveal two 1UPs and the stage's fourth Energy Sphere.
Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition[]
Smash is the only Copy Ability that can pound Stakes, although only certain techniques will pound them: Hammer Spin, Stone, and Stone Smash; the normal Hammer no longer pounds Stakes, unlike in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
New Challenge Stages[]
Last Land[]
Two Stakes appear in the Smash Combat Chamber's fourth room. Pounding the first Stake destroys Explosion Blocks, allowing Kirby to obtain three food items: fried rice, soft cream, and ramen, as well as two Score Coins and a Golden Score Coin. Pounding the second Stake destroys the Explosion Blocks below, causing any uncollected items to fall into the pit below; as such, Kirby should avoid pounding this Stake.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe[]
Hammer, Stone, and Beetle are the only Copy Abilities that can pound Stakes, although only certain techniques from these abilities will pound them; Hammer, Giant Swing, and Ultra-Giant Swing for Hammer; Stone Change, Stone Smash, Turbo Stone, and Heavy Smash for Stone; and Hardhead Slam for Beetle.
In Dededetour, King Dedede can pound Stakes, although, like Hammer, only Hammer, Giant Swing, and Ultra-Giant Swing will work.
Old Odyssey[]
The first Stake appears in Stage 2. After defeating Bonkers and obtaining Hammer, Kirby takes a 3D Warp Star to the background, where the Stake is located; pounding the Stake destroys some Explosion Blocks to the left, revealing four Point Stars and a 1UP; continuing to the right and floating up near the door will reveal a second Stake higher up, and pounding it destroys the Explosion Blocks to the right and reveals the stage's Rare Keychain.
Wild World[]
In Stage 4, after defeating Blocky and obtaining Stone, in the next room is a Stake in the background; pounding the Stake destroys the Explosion Blocks below it, revealing an Energy Drink and a Keychain.
Endless Explosions[]
In Stage 2, Kirby can obtain Stone from Blocky in the fourth room or Rocky in the fifth room. Near the end of the fifth room is a Stake to the left of the door. Pounding it destroys the Explosion Blocks to the left, revealing a round-trip door. In the optional room, a Timed Dynamite is dropped right above Kirby; Kirby needs to drop it as soon as he grabs it, quickly float our of the area and go to the right, then pound all five Stakes to destroy the Explosion Blocks supporting the Timed Dynamite, allowing it to drop and explode on a Durable Block, destroying it, allowing Kirby to obtain the stage's second Sun Stone; the first Stake is to the left on the third block, the second and third Stakes are to the right on the seventh block, the fourth Stake is to the left on the second block, and the fifth Stake is in the middle on the fourth block.
Royal Road[]
In Stage 5, Kirby can enter the top-left Warp Hole and obtain Hammer from Bonkers or enter the bottom-right Warp Hole and obtain Beetle from Beetley. On the ninth crystal in the foreground of the room entered by taking the bottom-right Warp Hole is a Stake; pounding it destroys the Explosion Blocks below it, revealing two Green Point Stars for a total of ten Point Stars, as well as revealing the stage's Rare Keychain that is under the crystal.
Kirby: Planet Robobot[]
Hammer, Stone, and Smash Bros. are the only Copy Abilities that can pound Stakes, although only certain techniques from these abilities will pound them; Hammer, Giant Swing, Ultra-Giant Swing, and Underwater Wheel for Hammer; Stone Change, Stone Smash, Turbo Stone, and Heavy Smash for Stone; and Giant Swing, Ultra-Giant Swing, Stone Change, and Stone Smash for Smash Bros.
In Meta Knightmare Returns, Meta Knight can pound Stakes.
Overload Ocean[]
The first Stake appears in Stage 5. In the third room is Bandana Waddle Dee to provide an Assist Star, Simirror, the Stake, NESP, and then Bonkers. Obtain Hammer from Bonkers, then backtrack to the Stake to pound it; pounding it destroys the Explosion Blocks beneath it, allowing access to a 1UP and another Stake. Pounding the second Stake destroys the Explosion Blocks to the right, revealing two food items: pineapples, and a door. Entering the door leads to part of the fourth room with a Treasure Chest that contains the stage's Rare Sticker. Later in the fourth room is yet another Stake. While in the background, there are some Breakable Blocks in the floor. Destroying the Breakable Blocks allows Kirby to reach a Stake; pounding the Stake destroys the Explosion Blocks in the foreground, providing a Green Point Star worth 5 Point Stars and allowing access to the stage's second Code Cube.
Rhythm Route[]
In Stage 5, a Stake appears in the background of the fourth room, but it cannot be accessed and there is no ability in the stage to pound it yet. In the fifth room, Kirby can obtain Hammer from Bonkers, then take the 3D Warp Step to the background, then enter the door that leads to the previously inaccessible part of the fourth room. Destroy the Bomb Block and take the 3D Warp Step to the foreground, then go to the left and take the second 3D Warp Step; pounding the Stake destroys the Explosion Blocks to the right, revealing a round-trip door. In the optional room is a Hammer Copy Essence and five Stakes that need to pounded to destroy the Explosion Blocks to the right to progress; as the room is in the background, it automatically scrolls, so not pounding a Stake will result in being crushed. The first Stake is on the floor and pounding it provides a curry food item. The second Stake is on a low four-tile wide platform and pounding it provides a Green Point Star worth 5 Point Stars. The third Stake is on a medium height four-tile wide platform and pounding it provides a melon soda food item. The fourth Stake is on a low two-tile wide platform and pounding it provides a Red Point Star worth 10 Point Stars. The fifth Stake is on a high one-tile wide platform and pounding it allows access to the stage's second Code Cube.
Kirby Star Allies[]
In addition to normal Stakes, Wall Stakes, Ceiling Stakes, Ice Stakes, and Battery Stakes exist. Wall Stakes and Ceiling Stakes are mostly identical to that of normal Stakes, but they're on walls or ceilings respectively; due to their positioning, less techniques are capable of pounding them, requiring a sideways or upwards direction respectively. Ice Stakes are just normal Stakes frozen in ice; they need to be thawed with the Sizzle element before or during the pounding process via an applicable Friend Ability to pound them. Battery Stakes are attached to a wire and can be pounded normally, but won't activate and will pop back up; they need to be pounded while receiving the Zap element via an applicable Friend Ability to power the wire.
Hammer, Stone, Beetle, and Artist are the only Copy Abilities that can pound Stakes, although only certain techniques from these abilities will pound them; Hammer, Giant Swing, Ultra-Giant Swing, and Underwater Wheel for Hammer; Stone Change, Stone Smash, Turbo Stone, and Heavy Smash for Stone; Hardhead Slam for Beetle; and Painter (King Dedede or Full Belly Kirby) for Artist.

World of Peace - Dream Land[]
Donut Dome[]
Kirby can use Rocky or the Stone Copy Essence to obtain Stone and/or create a Friend Helper Rocky in the third room. A Stake appears soon afterward; pounding it causes part of the floor to drop, revealing three Point Stars and two Picture Pieces. After descending some slopes is another Stake to the left; pounding it causes part of the ceiling to slide down to the left, revealing a round-trip door. In the optional room are Copy Essences for Stone and Ice, a Durable Block, and two Point Stars and a Wall Stake behind the Durable Block; if "display tips" is set to "ON" in the Settings (it is on be default), a tutorial sign showing a picture of Stone Kirby raising his hand and receiving the Blizzard element from Chilly will appear, signaling the use of the Ice Curling Friend Ability. Using Ice Curling, the Durable Block can be destroyed and the Wall Stake pounded, causing the wall to the right to fall, revealing 45 Point Stars, four Green Point Stars, and two Red Point Stars for a total of 85 Point Stars; soft cream and ice cream bar food items; and four Picture Pieces. In the fifth room is another Wall Stake; pounding it causes the floor to the right to fall, revealing three Point Stars and two Picture Pieces. Near the end of the fifth room are two Durable Blocks, with two Sizzle Guards between them, and a Wall Stake to their left; pounding the Wall Stake causes the floor to the left to fall, revealing two hamburgers and a hotdog, as well as allowing access to two Green Point Stars and four Red Point Stars for a total of 50 Point Stars and the stage's Rare Picture Piece.
World of Miracles - Planet Popstar[]
Echo's Edge[]
Kirby fights Bonkers to obtain Hammer or create a Friend Helper Bonkers in the third room. Soon after the fight with Bonkers is an Ice Stake. Using Fire/Burning Leo, the Ice Stake can be thawed and pounded by melting the ice with Fire/Burning Leo and pounding with Hammer/Bonkers, or using the Sizzle Hammer Friend Ability to do both at the same time; pounding the Ice Stake causes part of the floor to drop, allowing access to an area to the left with a Burning Leo and two crates each containing two Point Stars for a total of four Point Stars, and an area to the right with ten Ice Blocks containing four Point Stars and one Green Point Star for a total of nine Point Stars, and another Ice Stake. After melting the Ice Blocks, the Ice Stake can be accessed; pounding it causes part of the floor to drop, allowing access to five Ice Blocks above an upward wind current, each containing three Point Stars, one containing a Green Point Star for a total of 20 Point Stars, two containing Picture Pieces, and two containing tea food items. In the fourth room near the end is an Ice Stake; pounding it causes the wall to the left to rise, revealing two Picture Pieces, eight Point Stars, and one Red Point Star for a total of 18 Point Stars.
Fortress of Shadows - Jambastion[]
Longview Corridor[]
Kirby can use Rocky to obtain Stone or create a Friend Helper Rocky in the third room, where there is a Stake; pounding it causes part of the floor to drop, revealing a round-trip door. In the optional room is an ESP Copy Essence, a Scarfy, and a Battery Stake connected to a wire to a Shutter blocking access to two takoyaki food items, three Picture Pieces, and two Red Point Stars for a total of 20 Point Stars; if "display tips" is set to "ON" in the Settings, a tutorial sign showing a picture of the Stone and ESP icons with the caption "Friend Ability" as well as an icon of a controller with the Control Stick tilting up will appear, signaling the use of the Geokinesis Friend Ability. Using Geokinesis, ESP/NESP can guide Stone/Rocky over the Battery Stake before dropping the stone statue, pounding the Battery Stake and powering the wire to the Shutter. In the fourth room near the end is a Battery Stake; pounding it opens the Shutter to the left, allowing access to a round-trip door. In the optional room is the stage's Big Switch; activating it allows access to the level's Dream Palace; reveals two Point Stars, two Green Point Stars, two Picture Pieces, and two Red Point Stars for a total of 32 Point Stars, and a 1UP; and causes part of the floor to drop, allowing access to four Point Stars, a Picture Piece, and the round-trip door exit.
Far-Flung - Starlight Heroes[]
Planet Misteen[]
Kirby fights Bonkers to obtain Hammer or create a Friend Helper Bonkers in the second room. Soon after the fight with Bonkers is a Battery Stake. Kirby can use Plugg to obtain Plasma or create a Friend Helper Plugg in the second room. Using the Zap Hammer Friend Ability by adding the Zap element to Hammer/Bonkers, the Battery Stake can be pounded and activated; pounding the Battery Stake powers the wire and opens the Shutter in the water to the left, allowing access to a round-trip door. In the optional room, Kirby and his Friends can use the Friend Bridge Friend Action by getting on the Friend Platform at the top left of the room. When in formation, the player has to guide two Key Dees to the Lock Shutters to the right; the first Lock Shutter requires the red Key and the second requires the blue Key. However, the Key Dee with the red Key is on the left, and can't access the red Lock Shutter due to the Key Dee with the blue Key who is on the right. By having the Friend Bridge descend by one level, the Key Dees can leave the bridge by taking a path to the left, effectively allowing them to swap positions; by descending again, the Friend Bridge can carry the Key Dees in the correct order. Upon ascending back to the top, the Key Dees can unlock their respective Lock Shutters without issue. Opening both Lock Shutters allows access to bananas, a melon, a watermelon, an orange, and the stage's Rare Picture Piece. In the fifth room is another Battery Stake, as well as a normal Stake, both underwater; pounding the normal Stake lowers the water level, allowing the Battery Stake to be pounded under the effects of the Zap Hammer (as elemental effects do not apply when underwater). If the player doesn't have the Zap element on Hammer/Bonkers at this point, Kirby can use the NESP in the room to obtain ESP or create a Friend Helper NESP to provide the Zap element for the Zap Hammer Friend Ability; pounding the Battery Stake opens the Shutter below, allowing access to another round-trip door. In the optional room is the stage's Big Switch; activating it allows access to Extra Planet α; and reveals two Point Stars, two Green Point Stars, two Picture Pieces, and two Red Point Stars for a total of 32 Point Stars, and a 1UP.
Planet Caverna[]
In the second room is a Stake located behind three flame logs and in front of six Durable Blocks and three blank signs; also in the second room are doors leading to all of the game's mid-bosses. Fighting Mr. Frosty, located in the room to the left, allows Kirby to obtain Ice or create a Friend Helper Chilly that can be used to extinguish the flame logs, revealing a Picture Piece and allowing access to the Stake; defeating Mr. Frosty also creates an Ice Copy Essence near the door, allowing the player to obtain Ice/Chilly without having to refight him. Fighting Bonkers, located in the room in the middle, allows Kirby to obtain Hammer or create a Friend Helper Bonkers that can be used to pound the Stake, causing part of the floor and wall to drop, revealing three Green Point Stars for a total of 15 Point Stars and allowing access to the Durable Blocks; defeating Bonkers also creates a Hammer Copy Essence near the door, allowing the player to obtain Hammer/Bonkers without having to refight him. Fighting Bugzzy, located in the room to the top-right, allows Kirby to obtain Suplex or create a Friend Helper Bugzzy that can be used to destroy the Durable Blocks with the Friend Throw Friend Ability, revealing four Red Point Stars and one Blue Point Star for a total of 70 Point Stars and allowing access to the blank signs; defeating Bugzzy also creates a Suplex Copy Essence near the door, allowing the player to obtain Suplex/Bugzzy without having to refight him. Fighting Vividria, located in the room to the right, allows Kirby to obtain Artist or create a Friend Helper Vividria that can be used to paint the blank signs, revealing a Maxim Tomato, a Picture Piece, and the stage's Rare Picture Piece; defeating Vividria also creates an Artist Copy Essence near the door, allowing the player to obtain Artist/Vividria without having to refight her. Fighting Chef Kawasaki, located in the room to the bottom-right, is not necessary to solve this puzzle, but is otherwise required to beat the stage, as with all of the other mid-bosses, as defeating each opens a Shutter blocking the way to the Goal Door.
The puzzle can additionally be solved without defeating Mr. Frosty, Bonkers, or Bugzzy, as Artist/Vividria can extinguish the flame logs, pound the Stake, and paint the blank signs; and Fighter/Knuckle Joe, located near the door to Bonkers, can use Friend Throw to destroy the Durable Blocks.
Entering the stage's secret area allows for an otherwise identical puzzle featuring three flame logs, a Stake, six Durable Blocks, and three blank signs; however, the player must fight twin versions of each mid-boss, but receives greater rewards. Destroying the flame logs reveals two Green Point Stars and one Blue Point Star for a total of 40 Point Stars. The area with the Stake has three Point Stars, three Green Point Stars, and three Red Point Stars for a total of 48 Point Stars, and pounding the Stake reveals three Point Stars, two Green Point Stars, one Red Point Star, and one Blue Point Star for a total of 53 Point Stars. The area with the Durable Blocks has seven Point Stars, five Green Point Stars, three Red Point Stars, and one Blue Point Star for a total of 92 Point Stars, and destroying them reveals three Green Point Stars, two Red Point Stars, and one Blue Point Star for a total of 65 Point Stars. The area with the blank signs has 19 Point Stars, 20 Green Point Stars, four Red Point Stars, and one Blue Point Star for a total of 189 Point Stars, and painting the blank signs reveals two Picture Pieces and the stage's Rare Picture Piece.
The player can still solve the puzzle while skipping Mr. Frosty and Bonkers, but can no longer skip Bugzzy due to Knuckle Joe not being present, being replaced with Gim.
Star Lavadom[]
Kirby can use Rocky to obtain Stone and/or create a Friend Helper Rocky in the second room. In the second room near the end, some Meteors will destroy some of the terrain, allowing access to a round-trip door. In the optional room is a Broom Hatter Kirby can use to obtain Cleaning or create a Friend Helper Broom Hatter, a Stake, and an Energy Drink under a platform that cannot be dropped through; pounding the Stake causes part of the floor to rise, allowing access to the Energy Drink and revealing a Wall Stake high up on the left wall, as well as a trail of three Point Stars between the Wall Stake and the now risen floor. If "display tips" is set to "ON" in the Settings, a tutorial sign showing a picture of the Cleaning and Stone icons with the caption "Friend Ability" as well as an icon of a controller with the Control Stick tilting up will appear, signaling the use of the Clean Curling Friend Ability. Using Clean Curling, the Wall Stake can be pounded, causing the left wall to split open, revealing three Red Point Stars for a total of 30 Point Stars, three Picture Pieces, and a 1UP. In the third room is a Wall Stake above lava; pounding it using Clean Curling or Splash Curling causes part of the floor to the right to drop, allowing access to a round-trip door. In the optional room is the stage's Big Switch; activating it allows access to Extra Planet γ; and reveals two Point Stars, two Green Point Stars, two Picture Pieces, and two Red Point Stars for a total of 32 Point Stars, and a 1UP.
Jambandra Base[]
Kirby and his friends, using the Friend Circle Friend Action, must press all of the Switches in the fifth room to allow access to a round-trip door. In the optional room is a Friend Quad Cannon, a Burning Leo, a big bomb, a Sir Kibble, and a Rocky. Using Fire/Burning Leo to apply the Sizzle element to Cutter/Sir Kibble for the Sizzle Cutter Friend Ability, the fuse of the big bomb can be cut and lit, causing it to explode and destroy the wall to the left, revealing a Picture Piece and allowing access to a wall with a Wall Stake on its left and a fuse on it, as well as a Chilly. Using Ice/Chilly to apply the Blizzard element to Stone/Rocky for the Ice Curling Friend Ability, the Wall Stake can be pounded, pushing the wall to the right and completing the fuse for the Friend Quad Cannon. Use Fire/Burning Leo to light the fuse to the Friend Quad Cannon and entering the Cannons, the giant rock block can be destroyed, allowing access to a Point Star, a 1UP, a Picture Piece, the stage's Rare Picture Piece, and a Walky for Mike.
Extra Planet α[]
At evening, Kirby can use Broom Hatter to obtain Cleaning and/or create a Friend Helper Broom Hatter near the second time-changing round-trip door. Sweeping up the pile of leaves reveals a round-trip door. In the optional room is a Picture Piece, a 1UP, and a Hammer Copy Essence, allowing the player to obtain Hammer/Bonkers. At evening or at morning, there is is a Battery Stake underwater near the third time-changing round-trip door; at night, the water is frozen into 17 Ice Blocks. At evening or at night to the left of the third time-changing round-trip door, Kirby can use Plugg to obtain Plasma or create a Friend Helper Plugg; at morning, Kirby can use Waddle Doo to obtain Beam or create a Friend Helper Waddle Doo; at night, Kirby can use Burning Leo to obtain Fire or create a Friend Helper Burning Leo. At night near the third time-changing round-trip door, use Fire/Burning Leo to melt the Ice Blocks, allowing access to the Battery Stake. Using Plasma/Plugg or Beam/Waddle Doo to apply the Zap element to Hammer/Bonkers for the Zap Hammer Friend Ability, the Battery Stake can be pounded; pounding it reveals a round-trip door. In the optional room is three sushi food items, a Treasure Chest containing the stage's Rare Picture Piece, and three 1UPs.
Extra Planet β[]
Kirby can use the Stone Copy Essence to obtain Stone and/or create a Friend Helper Rocky in the second room. Soon after is a Stake; pounding it causes part of the floor to drop, allowing access to a round-trip door. In the optional room is a Cleaning Copy Essence, a Wall Stake, a NESP that Kirby can use to obtain ESP or create a Friend Helper NESP, a Battery Stake, and a Shutter blocking access to two Point Stars, two Green Point Stars, two 1UPs, the stage's Rare Picture Piece, and two Red Point Stars for a total of 32 Point Stars. Using Cleaning/Broom Hatter on Stone/Rocky for the Clean Curling Friend Ability, the Wall Stake can be pounded; pounding it pushes the wall to the right, causing part of the floor with the Battery Stake to fall, completing the wire. Using ESP/NESP with Stone/Rocky for the Geokinesis Friend Ability, the Battery Stake can be pounded and activated, opening the Shutter.
Heroes in Another Dimension[]
Dimension I[]
In the fourth room, Player 1 controls King Dedede; to the right is a Waddle Doo, a Battery Stake, and two Shutters. If "display tips" is set to "ON" in the Settings, a tutorial sign showing a picture of the Zap and King Dedede icons with the caption "Friend Ability" as well as an icon of a controller with the Control Stick tilting up will appear, signaling the use of the Zap Hammer Friend Ability. King Dedede must turn the Waddle Doo into a Friend Helper to obtain Zap Hammer, which is required to progress; pounding the Battery Stake opens the Shutters, but King Dedede must rush through the area, destroying crates and enemies in the way, to obtain the twelfth Friend Heart, as the powered wire opens a Shutter underneath the it, causing it to fall in a pit if King Dedede does not arrive on time; the player can fall into the pit to sacrifice a life in order to try again. Soon after is a second Battery Stake, which must also be pounded in order to progress forward; pounding it opens the Shutters ahead, and King Dedede must quickly destroy the crates below in order to grab the thirteenth and fourteen Friend Hearts before power from the wire opens the Shutter underneath them. Afterward is a third Battery Stake; pounding it opens the Shutters ahead, where King Dedede needs to also pound three Stakes: a regular Stake, a Ceiling Stake, and a Wall Stake. Pounding the Stake, Ceiling Stake, and Wall Stake opens a pathway forward, allowing access to the fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth Friend Hearts; the power from the wire also opens a Shutter underneath these.
Dimension II[]
In the sixth room, Player 1 controls Gooey; tho the right is a Jammerjab and a Stake. Pounding the Stake causes the floor to the right to rise and reveals two Green Point Stars and one Yellow Point Star for a total of 11 Point Stars. After climbing up the ladder to the second floor, there are three flame logs to the left and a second Stake; the first flame log can be extinguished with Gooey's lick attacks, while the latter two can be extinguished by Parasol Gooey. Pounding the Stake causes the floor to the right to rise and reveals one Green Point Star, one Point Star for a total of six Point Stars, and the twentieth Friend Heart. After climbing up the ladder to the third floor, there are six Ice Blocks to the left, one containing a Picture Piece and one containing a Gordo, and a third Stake; the Ice Blocks can be destroyed using Burning Gooey. Pounding the Stake causes the floor to the right to rise and reveals one Red Point Star, one Point Star for a total of 11 Point Stars, and the twenty-first Friend Heart. After climbing up the ladder to the fourth floor, to the left is spikes, a rightward wind current, a Switch, and an Ice Stake; the Switch can be activated using Dark Laser, causing the wind current to stop, allowing access to the Ice Stake. The Ice Stake can be thawed and pounded by melting the ice with Burning Gooey and pounding with Stone Gooey; pounding it causes the floor to the right to rise and reveals one Green Point Star, one Point Star for a total of six Point Stars, and a Picture Piece. Partway up the ladder to the right, where the floor has stopped rising, is a NESP, two Durable Blocks, the twenty-second and twenty-third Friend Hearts, and three Picture Pieces; Gooey can turn the NESP into a Friend Helper to use the Friend Throw Friend Ability (although this could be done already if Friends are present). Use Friend Throw to destroy the Durable Blocks, allowing access to the Friend Hearts and Picture Pieces.
Dimension III[]
In the second room, Kirby has the ESP Copy Ability; to the right is a Rocky, lava above, a downward wind current, a Bomb Block with Explosion Blocks above, and a Battery Stake connected to a wire connected to two Shutters. If "display tips" is set to "ON" in the Settings, a tutorial sign showing a picture of the Stone and ESP icons with the caption "Friend Ability" as well as an icon of a controller with the Control Stick tilting up will appear, signaling the use of the Geokinesis Friend Ability. Kirby can turn the Rocky into a Friend Helper to use Geokinesis. Using Geokinesis, ESP can lift Rocky up to destroy the Bomb Block and the Explosion Blocks above, allowing access to the Battery Stake; pounding the Battery Stake opens the Shutters, allowing access to the second Friend Heart. Soon after is another area with lava above, a downward wind current, and a Bomb Block with Explosion Blocks above, but now has a Bomb Block with Explosion Blocks to the right and there is a rightward wind current; using Geokinesis, ESP can lift Rocky up to destroy the Bomb Block and the Explosion Blocks above, and can maneuver Rocky to destroy the next Bomb Block, which destroys the Explosion Blocks to the right. The rightward wind current then causes ESP to drift to the right; ESP has to guide Rocky carefully in the area above to avoid crushing him. ESP can then drop Rocky and pound a second Battery Stake; pounding it opens Shutters, allowing access to the third and fourth Friend Hearts and a Picture Piece.
In the eleventh room, Player 1 controls Daroach; to the right is a Rocky, a wire, lava, and two Wall Stakes, one behind Durable Blocks. If "display tips" is set to "ON" in the Settings, a tutorial sign showing a picture of the Blizzard and Stone icons with the caption "Friend Ability" as well as an icon of a controller with the Control Stick tilting up will appear, signaling the use of the Ice Curling Friend Ability; Daroach can turn the Rocky into a Friend Helper to use Ice Curling (although this could be done already if Rocky, obtained from the second room, was still present). To get the fifteenth Friend Heart, only the Wall Stake behind the Durable Blocks can be pounded. Using Summon Doc to power the wire, the three blocks of lava reposition from a downward staircase to a flat floor; it will keep alternating between a staircase and a flat floor. Using Ice Curling when the lava is rising into the flat position, the top Wall Stake is pounded, allowing access to the Friend Heart; hitting the bottom Wall Stake causes a Gordo to come out, making the Friend Heart unobtainable, and the area will have to be reset by sacrificing a life to retry the puzzle. Soon after is a line of Fire Blocks and a narrow pathway leading up to a Rope suspending a solid step; the Fire Blocks can be destroyed using Ultra Ice Laser. Using Summon Spinni, Spinni can navigate the narrow passageway and cut the rope above, allowing access to the sixteenth Friend Heart and two Picture Pieces; Daroach should be careful to not be under the solid step, as cutting the rope will cause it to crush anyone below. Later are two sets of Big Dynamite, a water pipe, and a Stake; the left Big Dynamite has the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth Friend Hearts on it and is over a pit. Using Summon Storo or Rocky, the Stake can be pounded; pounding it destroys the Explosion Blocks to the right, allowing access to the fuse. Daroach can use his ice attacks to freeze the water and Daroach Fire Bomb to light the fuse. After lighting the fuse, Daroach should time a second Daroach Fire Bomb in the direction of the frozen water to melt it once the top fuse passes it, extinguishing the bottom fuse that leads to the left Big Dynamite; completing the puzzle allows access to the Friend Hearts. If the player fails this puzzle, a life will have to be sacrificed to try again.
Dimension IV[]
In the sixth room, Player 1 controls Susie; above are some Bombers and a Chilly. If "display tips" is set to "ON" in the Settings, a tutorial sign showing a picture of the Blizzard and Susie icons with the caption "Friend Ability" as well as an icon of a controller with the Control Stick tilting up will appear, signaling the use of the Blizzard Susie Friend Ability; Susie can turn the Chilly into a Friend Helper to use Blizzard Susie (although this could be done already if Chilly, obtained from the second room, was still present). To the right are two flame logs; using the H.W.C. Blaster, Susie's shots turn into falling chunks of ice, allowing them to destroy the flame logs, allowing access to a lower area. To each side are passageways too small for Susie to fit through, and the floors are also covered in spikes; using the H.W.C. Blaster to shoot through the left gap will cause the ice chunks to land on a Bomb Block, destroying the nearby Explosion Blocks and allowing the terrain block with a barrel and Friend Heart to move to the right. The ice chunk will still be around to destroy the barrel, preventing the Friend Heart from falling into the pit. Soon after the left terrain block starts moving, the Explosion Blocks to the right will be destroyed, to which Susie should shoot to the right with her H.W.C. Blaster in order to hit the other barrel with falling ice chunks. Once the second terrain block moves into place, the Explosion Blocks below will be destroyed, granting access to the fifteenth and sixteenth Friend Hearts. Soon afterward is a Stake; using Business Suit Up and then Driver Slam, the Stake can be pounded, causing the Explosion Blocks to the right to be destroyed, allowing access to the area below, but also causing a Friend Heart to the right to fall. Susie will have to use Driver Slam to pound a few more Stakes in quick succession, each which moves the ground below to the left: one to the right, one to the left, and one in the middle. After pounding the Stake in the middle, Susie should quickly use Business Suit Stow so that she can use her Transporter to fly and collect the seventeenth Friend Heart.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land[]
Hammer and Morpho Knight Sword are the Copy Abilities that can pound Stakes. For Morpho Knight Sword, only Sukhavati New World Slash-Flash and Super Sukhavati New World Slash-Flash works.

Trivia[]
- In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, the stage Alivel Mall (Staff Side) has Hammer Kirby pound a stake in a wall to knock down a clock. This is the first moment in the Kirby series in which the player can see the bottom of a stake.
