Aquatic by nature, Squibbys lull you into thinking they're harmless water sprites. Then they stick out three pointed coral spikes from the top of their heads. Jump high over them and watch out when you're swimming downward—they love to lie in wait for unsuspecting swimmers.
— Description • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards Official Strategy Guide (Prima)

Squibby is a transparent, white, aquatic enemy in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. Squibby has fin-like wings and a red sphere in its head, as well as black eyes. Squibby is mostly found underwater and usually stays in one place waiting for Kirby to approach it. It then extends three coral spikes out of the top of its head to attack when Kirby comes close enough. It can also be found hiding in underwater holes. Squibby yields no ability when it is inhaled. Squibby makes its first appearance on Aqua Star.

Etymology[]

Squibby's Japanese name, オリクネ (Orikune), is an anagram of clione (クリオネ kurione), the animal on which it appears to be based. Cliones or "sea angels" are aquatic mollusks with very similar coloration and movement patterns to Squibby.
