Spark Cutter (also called Double-Bladed Laser Sword[1] or Light Saber[2]) is a Power Combo in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.

Games[]

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[]

Kirby gets Spark Cutter by mixing Spark and Cutter. Attacking with the blade swings it in a wide arc, protecting Kirby from projectiles fired from most angles. Even when not swung, the blade has a constant hitbox, damaging any enemies that run into it and protecting Kirby's back. While the blade is out, however, Kirby can only jump once, and is not able to float. Crouching sheathes the blade.

Kirby can use this ability to obtain a Crystal Shard in Stage 4 of Shiver Star, in which he needs to destroy a yellow and green cage.

Trivia[]

  • The weapon Kirby wields may be a reference to the double-bladed version of the lightsaber weapon from the Star Wars franchise introduced one year before Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards was released. The reference is enhanced by the notable humming sound the weapon makes as it is held and swung. Nintendo Power also noted the similarity in its description.
    • Alternatively, it may be intended as homage to the twin beam sword wielded by Char Aznable's MS-14S Gelgoog Commander Type mecha in the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime series. The pointed design and yellow color scheme of the weapon resemble this sword more closely than it resembles Darth Maul's weapon. This reference would be lost on many players outside of Japan, where the anime is most recognized, so Nintendo Power may have attributed the ability's likeness to the Star Wars franchise, which is better-known in North America.
