Solite[1] is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby Air Ride.
Physical Appearance[]
Solite has dark teal skin, a short, pointy tail, and small golden feet. Solite's top section features a glowing spherical membrane which constantly radiates light. The section of Solite's back behind this membrane is a lighter teal than the rest of this enemy, and features gold stripes. The enemy has large, piercing gold eyes on its sides. Its design appears to be inspired by a nautilus.
Games[]
Kirby Air Ride and Kirby Air Riders[]
Solites are bioluminescent creatures that live in caves and other dark places. They come in two different sizes (large and small), and are often spotted in small groups, like many other enemies in Kirby Air Ride. Solites often aid the player by lighting up dim areas of the racecourses, despite being enemies. However, the size of Solite makes it a potential roadblock. After being destroyed, glowing orbs of light flash for a few moments and take Solite's place by continuing to light the area for a few moments. Solite grants no Copy Ability when inhaled.
Other Games[]
Although Solite only physically appears in Kirby Air Ride and its successor, Kirby Air Riders, Paint Roller draws a picture of one in his sub-game, Paint Panic, in Kirby: Canvas Curse. Additionally, Solite was set to appear in the cancelled Kirby GCN.
Trivia[]
- While Solite does not grant a Copy Ability, it is speculated that it would have an ability based on the Light ability called "light-flash" that would have blinded other players and find hidden routes as stated in an interview with the developers of Kirby Air Ride but was ultimately scrapped as this attack would be too difficult to dodge thus making it unfair for other players.[2] Although Solite isn't explicitly mentioned during this interview, Solite's light-themed design would have made it the only enemy in the game to posses such an ability.
