Slippery handling makes for tough control.
— Flavor Text • Kirby Air Ride

The Slick Star is an Air Ride Machine that appears in Kirby Air Ride.

Physical Appearance[]

The Slick Star has a circular rose-colored base that looks like yarn with 3 pink orbs around it, which rotate in a circle together. The rotation speed of the pink orbs is directly proportional to the speed of the Slick Star, although this is a purely visual effect.

General Information[]

The Slick Star's name is a reference to its poor traction capabilities, which are the worst of any Air Ride Machine in the game. This renders it unable to come to a complete stop, even when charging. Due to always moving, when the Slick Star takes damage, the direction it is currently traveling in may become erratic. Additionally, when the Slick Star is taking damage, there is a certain amount of time in which Kirby cannot perform any actions.

The Slick Star has a high top speed, average acceleration and charging speed, and decent gliding capabilities. However, it has poor handling that is accentuated by its terrible traction.

Strategies[]

With care, the Slick Star can perform well on most Air Ride courses and in certain Stadium events in City Trial. However, the Slick Star performs poorly in Kirby Melee and Destruction Derby events due to the fact that it must always be moving, negating most efforts at camping. Since it cannot stop, the player will glide past opponents that they may want to strike. Abilities such as Sword and Plasma become difficult to take advantage of, especially when opponents may be using other vehicles that allow them to turn easily.

Since it continues to move and retain speed when taking damage, the Slick Star is less easily damaged by opponents multiple times in succession, allowing its rider to get away from attacks that may otherwise KO them. This can be harmful, however, in the case that the Slick Star becomes trapped in a corner.

Related Quotes[]

There's very little friction between this machine and the ground. It has tons of individuality, so try it out for a different racing experience.
