Rocky Rollin' Road is the fourth stage in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It is the fourth stage of Natural Plains. It succeeds Through the Tunnel and precedes A Trip to Alivel Mall.
General Information[]
At the beginning of the stage, many large patches of Grass are scattered around, hiding some Awoofies. The player will likely still have Sword or Fire from the previous level, so they could cut down or burn the grass patches, respectively. Kirby is then faced with a Jabhog, which gives the player their first opportunity to use Needle. However, a Bernard attacks the player from behind a rock afterward, which when inhaled provides Kirby with the Ranger Copy Ability. Ranger's long range may immediately be tested on some faraway enemies. Afterwards, Kirby must climb up a ladder and encounter this stage's main gimmick-the many boulders rolling down along the path. After crossing a few of these, Kirby reaches another ladder.
This ladder takes Kirby to a section where he must scale a small hill with falling rocks rolling down the same way Kirby is going. To make it through, the player should take advantage of safe spots and spaces between the boulders. After this section, several increasingly more difficult jumps around the center building's base are required to get to the next part of the stage. Here, Kirby must quickly run downhill as a massive boulder chases him and destroys everything in its path. If he manages to survive the boulder, Kirby is able to use the Car Mouth in a more difficult driving section with thinner strips of ground to drive on. Two parts of the road have boulders passing through, so the player should especially be careful here. After turning a corner on the far right, the player is able to see three enormous boulders ready to roll down the hill Kirby needs to drive up. If the player manages to avoid the boulders and make it to the top, they can break open Hard Blocks to find another Capsule before touching the goal and clearing the level.
HAL Room[]
At the end of the level, rather than grabbing the goal, the player may instead notice a shimmer at the top of a nearby tree. Touching it causes 2 watermelons to spawn on the tree, a Ranger Copy Essence to appear on a bench, and the camera angle to shift which reveals a target far in the distance, different from the one found earlier in the level. Shooting said target causes a block staircase to appear, leading Kirby to the top of the center building that the stage is built around.
After making it to the top, Kirby must slide down the building while collecting Star Coins. Once he reaches the bottom, the traditional HAL logo is spelled out by Star Blocks. Destroying the blocks reveals various rewards, including Star Coins, Food, and Gotcha Capsules. The Hammer, Ice, Tornado, and Needle Abilities can be found here. After collecting everything, Kirby may get back to the end of the level with an Orange Warp Star.
Missions[]
Italicized missions are hidden from view on the player's first playthrough.
- Clear the stage: When Kirby clears the stage for the first time, he will automatically rescue 3 Waddle Dee prisoners from the golden cage.
- Save the hidden Waddle Dees: 4 Waddle Dee prisoners can be found here, their locations being the following:
- After the first road with falling boulders, Kirby finds a target requiring the Ranger Ability to be used to shoot it. After doing so, a recess in the wall opens up, revealing the first Waddle Dee.
- After surviving the uphill part, a skinny metal bridge with a Bernard can be stood on to shoot an abovehead target. Doing so opens up a Round-Trip Door. Heading inside reveals a small room with an elevated platform and Ranger Copy Essence. Standing on the elevated platform causes 5 targets to rise up at varying heights in the distance, all of which must be shot down. If this is completed, several Star Coins will spawn as well as a treasure chest containing a Waddle Dee.
- If Kirby makes it through the boulder chase segment quickly enough, he may activate a Switch that spawns the Waddle Dee on a nearby bench.
- After the part of the Car Mouth section where boulders roll through the road, an elevated part of the road curves around to drive Kirby into a building. Breaking through the wall allows Kirby to rescue the final Waddle Dee.
- Find the side road while going uphill: During the uphill part of the stage, a path marked by Pop Flowers can be found off to the right. Heading down this path reveals a ladder, which leads to a roof with a Dome Mouth. Using said Mouthful Mode reveals a Gotcha Capsule.
- Eat snacks off 3 tree stumps: Several tree stumps throughout the level have Food items placed on top of them, their locations being:
- In plain sight after the first Bernard.
- Shortly after the first stump, to the left of a ladder.
- Right before the downhill section.
- Drive without falling off the edge: This mission is unlocked after the level is completed, only if Kirby makes it through the Car Mouth segment without falling off the edge. Extreme caution should be taken in obtaining this mission, as boosting into a wall may cause Kirby to rebound and fall off.
