Robot Toy is a hazard in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.

Physical Appearance

Robot Toy is a giant, bipedal green robot. Its body is built from complex polyhedrons: Its head is an elongated hexagonal bipyramid, its body a rhombicuboctahedron, and its feet chamfered rectangular prisms. It has two circular orange eyes and a row of triangular teeth on its face, three red stripes across its chest, two silver clamps for hands, and a double-pronged brass spike atop its head. A silver windup key on its back spins as it walks, giving it a toyetic appearance. Likewise, the machine's movements are similar to those of a wind-up toy: It turns its head, sways its body back and forth, and swings its arms up and down as it walks.

Robot Toy's apparatus appears to be a metal slab with one electrical face, two spinning cogs on its side, and caution tape.

Games

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Robot Toy appears exclusively in Stage 4 of Shiver Star. Six of them stalk the halls of the factory's last room. When Kirby climbs through the thin platform in front of one, it activates with a metallic sound and gives chase. The hero must outrun it and float through the next thin platform to progress. Enemies, specifically Sawyer, Fishbones, Cairns, and Scarfys, act as obstacles to slow him down—these are effortlessly defeated as the robot charges through. If Kirby touches the machinery, he takes one point of electrical damage. If Robot Toy succeeds at pushing him into the wall at the end of the corridor, it KOs the hero. Food items and a Crystal Shard appear as temptations at the end of each hall, which a proficient player can obtain while still escaping the robot's trap.

In the fifth and final corridor, a Robot Toy chases Kirby toward a metal wall in the center, which is flanked on either side by a Mahall. Before Kirby can escape, a second Robot Toy approaches from the opposite side. To stay safe, the pink puff must hide atop the wall and wait for these Robot Toys to back into their original positions. They walk forward again if given enough time.

Trivia

  • In Kirby Star Allies, playing Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go! with Adeleine & Ribbon causes some level layouts to change so they reflect stages from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. Level 5 changes to reflect Stage 4 of Shiver Star. One sequence has Adeleine run through corridors while spiky chunks of terrain chase her. The fifth corridor has two spiky terrain blocks stop in the center as Adeleine takes refuge on a wall. This is a homage to the room with the Robot Toys.
