— Collect Point Stars! • Kirby Star Allies loading screen |
A Point Star is a collectible introduced in Kirby's Dream Land 2. Whenever Kirby has collected enough of them (the number varies depending on which one of his games), he gets a 1UP.
In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, they are known as Star Coins, where they are a form of currency.
Games[]
Kirby's Dream Land 2[]
Point Stars, referred to as Small Stars (presumably due to their small size), appear scattered across almost all of the stages in the game. They appear as stars of no distinct color (due to the game being on the Game Boy) with eyes. Collecting seven of them grants Kirby a 1UP. Small stars also appear in Bonus Chance when reentering boss stages; by collecting all 14 of the small stars without taking damage from the boss' attacks, 1% is added to the game's completion.
Kirby's Dream Land 3[]
Point Stars appear yellow in this game, and are called Star Pieces. Star Pieces appear much more often, but require thirty in order to obtain a 1UP. In the Goal Game, there is also a Medium Star Piece and a Large Star Piece, equivalent to three and five Small Star Pieces respectively.
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[]
Point Stars serve the same purpose as in Kirby's Dream Land 3, but with some slight tweaks. Small Stars are now called Yellow Stars, Medium Stars are now Green Stars, and Large Stars are now Red Stars; the latter two being worth 3 and 5 points respectively, and can only be obtained in Goal Game. There is also a new Blue Star, which is worth ten Yellow Stars; they replace Crystal Shards that have been collected, excluding the ones obtained from Waddle Doo, Adeleine, King Dedede, and bosses.
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble[]
Point Stars are referred to as Star Pieces. Collecting fifty Yellow Star Pieces grants Kirby a 1UP. Collecting all seven Red Star Pieces in a course without losing a life will also grant a 1UP. Collecting all of the Blue Star Pieces will also grant a 1UP.
Kirby: Canvas Curse[]
In Kirby: Canvas Curse, there is only one type of Point Star, in which 100 grant a 1UP. They appear as just yellow stars, no longer having eyes. Point Stars can also be earned in the Goal Game, which awards 10 Point Stars for every 100 units Kirby is launched.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Kirby: Planet Robobot, Kirby Star Allies, and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[]
Point Stars serve the same function as in Kirby: Canvas Curse, and colored Point Stars return: Red Point Stars are worth 10, and Blue Point Stars are worth 30. Starting with Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Green Point Stars are added which are worth 5. Up to 30 Point Stars can also be obtained from the Goal Game. In each game's Extra Mode, Point Stars receive an altered appearance; in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, and Heroes in Another Dimension, they have star-shaped holes in them; in Dededetour, they appear as King Dedede's emblem (two finger peace sign); in Meta Knightmare Returns, they appear as Meta Knight's emblem (M with a sword through it); in Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go!, they appear as hearts.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[]
Point Stars are only yellow again, excluding the Glowing Star. However, there are also 10-Stars, 50-Stars, and 100-Stars, each giving 10, 50, and 100 Point Stars respectively; 50-Stars, however, are only obtainable in Goal Game, replacing the Secret Diary page if the player has it already. By collecting many Point Stars in succession, the player will obtain extra Point Stars as a chain bonus, being equivalent to one additional Point Star for every three collected in the chain; the chain's value, and the number of bonus stars as a result, is based on the number of stars collected, and is independent of their values. Glowing Stars cause many Point Stars to appear for a period of time, in which collecting them all awards the player with a prize. Point Stars, in addition to granting 1UPs per every 100 collected, are used for giving Kirby the ability to use a Star Dash, as well as giving Medals at the end of each normal stage, similarly to Beads in Kirby's Epic Yarn.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land[]
Star Coins can be found freely, obtained by defeating certain enemies, can be traded for items in Waddle Dee Town, and can be evolved or powered up for Copy Abilities and Evolved Copy Abilities in Waddle Dee's Weapons Shop. Their denominations are the same as Point Stars in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby: Triple Deluxe onwards. The player can hold up to 99,999 Star Coins.
Stacks of Star Coins can be found as well, with fully yellow stacks being worth 20 coins, those with green and red coins being worth 50 coins, and those with blue coins being worth 100 coins. A sack of Star Coins is worth 500 coins.
If the player is defeated, they lose 100 Star Coins as penalty; these Star Coins can only be recovered by collecting nearby Star Coins. If the player is defeated and lose Star Coins multiple times in a single stage, they receive some Star Coins at Kirby's House from Waddle Dee Town as compensation. The player does not lose any Star Coins as penalty for failing a Treasure Road stage, however.
When the player completes a stage in Wild Mode, a message "Cleared in Wild Mode!" appears and 50 bonus Star Coins are rewarded; by completing a Treasure Road in Wild Mode, 10 bonus Star Coins are rewarded. If the player completes a Treasure Road within Target Time, 50 bonus Star Coins are rewarded.
When the player collects a Rare Stone or saves a hidden Waddle Dee if already collected or saved it, 10 Star Coins are rewarded. If the player collects a piece of Leon's Soul when already collected it, 5 Star Coins are rewarded.
When the player completes a stage that has already been completed, 30 Star Coins are rewarded.
In Waddle Live! Corner Stage, the player can donates Star Coins to upgrade the stage and unlock more tracks (1,000 for the first upgrade, 2,000 for the second upgrade).
In the Colosseum, the player is rewarded 500, 1,500, and 2,500 Star Coins for completing the Meta Knight Cup, The Ultimate Cup, and The Ultimate Cup Z, respectively. If the player is defeated, they can spend 100 Star Coins per retry.
In the Flash Fishing, the player is rewarded 1, 5, 10, 30, and 500 Star Coins for catching any Blipper, respectively.
In the Tilt-and-Roll Kirby, the player is rewarded 30, 40, and 50 in Normal (50, 80, and 100 in Extra Hard) Star Coins for completing any board. If the player completes any board within Target Time, 500, 700, and 999 bonus Star Coins are rewarded. However, this bonus is only given once.

Trivia[]
- In Kirby and the Rainbow Curse's multiplayer, the Waddle Dees can comically poke at Kirby with their spears to make stars fly out of him. However, Kirby doesn't lose any of his stars this way.
- In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, if the player specifically kicks two rocks, a Star Coin is rewarded.
