When these glowing foes have fully charged their attack to its third level, they become immune to projectiles and direct attacks.
— Tip • Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

Plasma Wisp is a recurring enemy who has thus far appeared in in Kirby Super Star, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Kirby Air Ride, and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. It is a mass of flaming green electricity with eyes and hands. It gives Kirby the Plasma ability when inhaled; it is the only enemy that can do so. It is also the Helper for the Plasma ability.

Games

Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra

Plasma Wisp first appeared in Kirby Super Star, and returned in its remake, Kirby Super Star Ultra. It is a flashy blue enemy who is able to build up his attacks, so the longer it holds in his attack, the stronger it will be. Plasma Wisp is also able to float freely in the air and is not affected by gravity. However, it will gradually descend to the ground. Depending on what distance Kirby is at, the attack power of Plasma Wisp varies. For example, if Kirby is very far from Plasma Wisp, it will charge to its full power. If Kirby is very close to Plasma Wisp, it will use his weakest charge.

As a Helper, it resembles a green flame of electricity with light purple hands (which was changed to bright yellow in the remake). It has five fingers here, which was changed in Kirby Air Ride. It can do virtually anything Plasma Kirby can do, but it also retains his hovering ability and can envelop himself in a small electrical force field as his guard. It can also perform Plasma Needle underwater.

In Kirby Super Star Ultra, Plasma Wisp is playable in Helper to Hero. This Plasma Wisp is lime green/yellow-green in color, similar to his official artwork. In both versions, the enemy version of Plasma Wisp is blue.

Kirby Air Ride

Plasma Wisp, along with the Plasma ability, made another appearance in Kirby Air Ride.  His design is relatively unchanged, however it now bears more resemblance to the Kirby Super Star artwork, no longer has any fingers, and sometimes flashes different colors.

Plasma Wisps never attack in Kirby Air Ride, and simply serve as obstacles (as well as the source of the Plasma ability).

In the Super Smash Bros. series

Plasma Wisp appears as an enemy in the Smash Run mode of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. It attacks by charging up energy and firing multiple Plasma Needles, a Plasma Laser, or a Plasma Wave. When at full charge, the enemy surrounds itself with a Plasma Barrier that blocks projectiles.

Plasma Wisp makes an appearance in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U when the player fights against Master Core during the "Master Fortress" phase of the battle. To match the dark surroundings, Plasma Wisp takes on a shadowy appearance, now being a purple color and featuring dark purple gloves; the enemy's eyes are no longer visible as well. It fights alongside dark versions of Geemers, Stalfos, and Lethiniums. Plasma Wisps are created by Master Fortess to attack the player as he/she traverses the ominous stronghold. Plasma Wisp acts exactly as it does in Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS. However, the plasma it uses to attack is now purple rather than green.

Related Quotes

This glowing enemy from the Kirby series uses plasma to attack. In Smash Bros., it'll float up to a fighter and then fire off energy attacks. There are three levels to its attacks. Level-two attacks can stun you, while level-three attacks do more damage. Keep your eyes peeled for those attacks!
