While in this state, Kirby can employ his classic inhale, and then either use his Star Spit or swallow an enemy to try to obtain an ability. His Star Spit is fairly powerful; against bosses and mid-bosses, he has to rely on using the move to use their attacks against them. This requires Kirby to wait for an opening instead of being able to attack almost anytime. In certain Boss Endurance events, Kirby is locked to his Normal state.
Normal lacks a Helper, as it is not a true Copy Ability; however, it does have some equivalents. Differently colored Kirbys serve as characters with identical abilities to Kirby himself. Gooey acts very similar to Normal, but uses his tongue to grab instead of inhaling, meaning he can grab foes and objects underwater, but cannot utilize stronger star spit. Tac, the Helper for Copy, performs similarly to Normal, but outstretches his hand to attack and steal abilities, which replenish his health upon transforming, as well as being able to perform an invincible Guard.

Jump/Hover
A
Kirby jumps up into the air if standing on the ground, or inflates himself like a balloon to hover if in the air.
The height of Kirby's jump changes depending on the game, and can sometimes be altered based on how long the button is held. In Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards and in the Super Smash Bros. series, hover has a limit to its use.
Kirby inhales in front of him to try to suck in nearby objects; holding the button for a while allows him to Super Inhale. If Kirby has something in his mouth already, he can spit it out as a star projectile.
In Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, if Kirby only has one object in his mouth that isn't an Ability Star, he will spit out the physical object instead of a star; the result is the same, however.
Kirby slides along the ground with his foot outstretched, hitting any foes or objects in the way.
Some games allow Slide to hit objects below Kirby as well as in front of him. Some games have Kirby slide past foes or objects that are hit, while others have him rebound away.
Dash
Quickly →/→→
Kirby starts moving faster than usual, allowing him to pass over gaps in the ground that are a block wide.
Quick Fall
↓↓ in midair
Kirby's descent increases, allowing him to hit enemies below him with his head. This can also prevent Kirby from bouncing upon hitting the ground at tall heights.
This move made its debut in Kirby: Triple Deluxe and has been in every main series title since.
Kirby pulls out a Friend Heart and holds it over his head while the button is held. Upon releasing the button, Kirby will throw it to the nearest friendable foe or at an arc if no friendable foes are nearby.
Kirby creates two beams next to him that turn any nearby Friends into Ability Items. If Kirby has a Copy Ability, he can drop it after holding down the Y button or after pressing the - button.
The Robobot Armor jumps up into the air; landing on enemies damages them. During a Double Jump, the Robobot Armor can use its jets to stay airborne for a brief period.
Robobot Boost
→→
The Robobot Armor uses its jets to rush forward.

Hunker Down
L/R
The Robobot Armor contracts its arms and legs, making it resemble a ball. It takes no damage from incoming attacks, but may roll a bit when hit.
Kirby inhales in front of him to try to suck in nearby objects; holding the button for a while allows him to Super Inhale. If Kirby has something in his mouth already, he can spit it out as the physical object projectile.
Kirby slides along the ground with his foot outstretched, hitting any foes or objects in the way.
Dash
Tilt
Kirby starts moving faster than usual, allowing him to pass over gaps in the ground that are a block wide. If the player tilt slightly, he will walk instead.
Drop Copy Ability
Press and hold Y/-
Kirby drop a Copy Ability after holding down the Y button or after pressing the - button.
Kirby takes on a defensive stance, taking less damage than usual from incoming attacks.
Dodge
L/R +
Kirby performs a handstand bounce and moves in the direction input (or stays in place in pressing left, right, up, or down), avoiding damage. Kirby can also dodge while swimming in water.
