The Nintendo Anime Channel was a free downloadable video-on-demand service from the 3DS family's Nintendo eShop that aired episodes of various anime licensed by Nintendo. Kirby: Right Back at Ya! was one of the anime that were available on the app until its shutdown on October 31, 2018.
General Information[]
The Nintendo Anime Channel allowed users to watch select numbers of episodes from different anime with more content to be added as the service ran. The first 4 episodes from Kirby: Right Back at Ya! were available to watch from the start at launch following the Japanese episode order. Over time, the lineup eventually spanned all the way to the 51st episode before the service's shutdown. The category for the anime is simply titled as "Kirby."
When an episode is tapped on, the episode will play on the top screen while the bottom screen will display a game ad related to the franchise of the episode, despite the words saying "learn more about this game on Nintendo eShop." These ads only change when a new episode is selected and do not transition into a different one. The games advertised for the Kirby series were 3D Classics: Kirby's Adventure, Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Kirby Fighters Deluxe, and Kirby: Planet Robobot. Tapping on the ad would prompt the user to close the application to open the respective game's page on the eShop.
On the bottom right corner of the bottom screen is the Settings icon where users can either change the Parental Settings for limiting watch times or changing the language of the audio to a different dub. For Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, only the English, French, Dutch, and Italian dubs were available at launch with no subtitle options.[1] According to the January 14, 2015 Nintendo Direct that announced the reveal of the Nintendo Anime Channel, subs could be accessed by downloading a separate application also on the eShop,[2] although it is unknown if the original Japanese audio was added at a later update and if subtitle options were available.
The only two known official announcement updates for Kirby: Right Back at Ya! episodes were on March 23 and March 31 of 2015,[3][4] however what episodes were added are undetermined.
Trivia[]
- In late July, 2016, a Miiverse post from Mike from Nintendo announced that in a later update, the Nintendo Anime Channel would add a new feature called "Mike Recommends" where users could tap on the option while watching a trailer or movie to download it on the eShop.[5] however it is unlikely any episode of Kirby: Right Back Ya! was downloadable.
