“ | Battles in the air are brewin', but if you have Coo, you'll be OK. Nruff and Nelly will be waiting for you.” |
— The Rainbow Islands • Kirby's Dream Land 2 Instruction Booklet |
Nelly is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby's Dream Land 2.
Physical Appearance[]
Nelly is a small boar who bears much resemblance to its larger counterpart, Nruff. It has spiky brown fur with small white stripes running across its back. It sports no visible ears and, unlike Nruff, always has its eyes open.
Games[]
Kirby's Dream Land 2[]
Nelly appears alongside Nruff as the boss of Big Forest. Nelly (or multiple of) emerges from one of the three holes in either of the two trees at the sides of the arena; Nelly only attacks by simply charging forward. Only one Nelly can be present in any of the three levels of elevation at a time. Nelly frequently follows behind Nruff, but can also be by itself. Nelly can be inhaled and used as ammunition to damage the main boss, Nruff.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe[]
Nelly, alongside Nruff, appears as a keychain in Kirby: Triple Deluxe.
In Kirby: Right Back at Ya![]
Nelly appears with Nruff as minor characters. The two live happily in Acore's roots.
Trivia[]
- Nelly is based on a juvenile wild boar. In their youth, boars have stripes on their sides that disappear as they enter adulthood.
- The boss battle against Nruff & Nelly plays similarly to the fight against Lololo & Lalala from Kirby's Dream Land. This style of boss fight would occur again with Pon & Con with Pon Jr. & Con Jr. in Kirby's Dream Land 3.
- The official Kirby Twitter's illustration for Mother's Day 2019 depicts Nruff as the mother of Nelly.
- Furthermore, in Kirby of the Stars: The Story of Dedede Who Lives In Pupupu, Nelly is specified to be the son of Nruff.
