NESP is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby: Planet Robobot. It yields the ESP ability when inhaled.

Physical Appearance

NESP is a floating, wizard-like enemy with a black cloak and hood. Its hood has a golden eye-like design emblazoned on it, and has a golden ball attached to the hood's tip. Underneath the hood, a white, spherical head sporting a small grin is visible. The enemy's cloak features a golden stripe. NESP’s hands are white and float in midair, making them resemble the hands of Magolor.

Games

Kirby: Planet Robobot

NESP first appears in Stage 1 of Resolution Road, and appears in many stages thereafter. The enemy floats in midair, and attacks Kirby at regular intervals when he is in its range by sending forth a small, purple ball of psychic energy. In addition, NESP may sometimes project a spherical shield of energy around itself. This shield will hurt Kirby if he touches it. The enemy is also able to teleport itself short distances multiple times in rapid succession.

NESP can teleport between planes and attack Kirby from the background.

Kirby Star Allies

NESP is set to reappear in Kirby Star Allies. It again provides the ESP ability, and can be controlled by the CPU or another player though the returning Helper system. While a helper, NESP wears Kirby's ESP cap underneath its hood, with the brim pointing forward instead of backwards.

Etymology

NESP's name is likely a portmanteau of Ness and ESP. Ness is a protagonist from the Mother series of games, also developed by HAL Laboratory. Ness, like NESP, can use psychic powers.

Trivia

  • NESP appears to bear a resemblance to the mysterious cloaked antagonist seen in the most recent trailer for Kirby Star Allies.
