Milky Way Wishes[]

English Japanese Translation

One day, in the year ???,
the Sun and Moon fought
day and night.

〇がつ ×にち
 たいようと月がおおゲンカ。
 ひるもよるもメチャクチャ…。

Month: 〇, Day: ×,
the sun and moon had a huge fight. Both day and night were disorderly...
MARX: ”Hey, hey, hey.” マルク:「ヘイ、ヘイ、ヘーイ。」 Marx: "Hey, hey, hey."

“Can you make peace
between the Sun and
Moon?”

「お月さんとおてんとさんを、
 なかなおりさせたいんだろ?」

"You can make peace with the moon and sun, right?"

“You need to ask the
giant comet NOVA for
help!”

「なら、ぎんがの
 はてのだいすいせい、ノヴァに
 おねがいするのサ。」

"If so, find the giant comet Nova at galaxy's end to make a wish."

“But first, there's
something we must do.”

「おっと、
 ただでなんとかなるほど
 アマくはないぜ?」

"Oops, we're not good enough to somehow do this for free?"

“To ask NOVA, we must
gather power from all
the stars around us.”

「ノヴァをよぶには、
 ちかくの星をむすんで、
 パワーをあつめるのサ。」

"In order to summon Nova, we must gather power by linking the nearby stars."

“It will be difficult,
Kirby, but you can do it!”

「はてしないたびになるけど、
 せいぜいガンバるのサ。」

"It'll be an everlasting journey, but keep doing your best."

“We are counting on you.
Good luck!”

「みんながまっているんだからな。
 たのんだのサ!」

”Everyone is depending on you. Please do it!"

Notes[]

  • Changes to the Japanese script from Kirby Super Star to Kirby Super Star Ultra are minimal; the only changes are Marx's laugh at the end of "Marx's Mad Plan," and always including the name of the speaking character, preceding a colon, whenever the character who is speaking changes. These changes are also present in the English translations.
  • In the Kirby Super Star translation, "sun" and "moon" are always capitalized, but in the Kirby Super Star Ultra translation, they are lowercase except when Marx first mentions them.
    • In the Japanese script, the word for "sun" is usually たいよう (taiyou) and the word for "moon" is usually 月 (tsuki). However, when Marx first mentions them, he calls the moon by お月さん (O-Tsuki-san) and the sun by おてんとさん (O-Tento-san); the お prefix and さん suffix are both used for politeness. This instance aligns with their names being capitalized in Kirby Super Star Ultra, perhaps signifying these are their names rather than generic ways of referring to them.
  • In the Kirby Super Star translation, when a speaking character's name precedes a colon, the name is uppercase; in Kirby Super Star Ultra, the name is simply capitalized, with the exception of the "Milky Way Wishes" cutscene, where Marx's name is still uppercase.
  • In the Kirby Super Star translation, Nova's name is always written in uppercase as "NOVA,' but in the Kirby Super Star Ultra translation, is it instead simply capitalized as "Nova."
  • Milky Way Wishes:
    • The text in the English translations of the "Milky Way Wishes" cutscene remains mostly identical between versions, with the only change being the year. The year was "???" in Kirby Super Star, but was changed to "????" in Kirby Super Star Ultra; this change was likely to be reflective of the fact that the current real-world year is four digits.
    • When specifying the date when the sun and moon were fighting, it is written as a year in English translations, but is instead written as a month and day in the Japanese script. In English, the year is written using only question marks, but in Japanese, the month is 〇 and the day is ×; these are the only occurrences where time-keeping units are named differently from the real world. In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, real-world days of the week are used to denote certain events.
    • When Marx asks if Kirby can make peace between the fighting celestial objects, he specifies the sun first in the English translations, but the moon first in the Japanese script.
    • When Marx first mentions Nova in the English translations, he doesn't mention where to find him. In the Japanese script, Marx says to find Nova at "galaxy's end" (ぎんがのはて ginga no hate).
    • In the English translations, Marx mentions Kirby's name; this does not occur in the Japanese script.
  • Marx's Mad Plan:
    • In the Japanese script and in the Kirby Super Star translation, Nova's sentences always end with an angle bracket (with the exception of when he says "BLAST OFF!"). In the Kirby Super Star Ultra translation, his sentences additionally end with a dash preceding the angle bracket.
    • In the Kirby Super Star translation, only Nova's first and third blocks of dialogue are uppercase, with his second block of dialogue being written normally; this aligns with the Japanese script using English for the first and third blocks of dialogue and kana for the second block of dialogue. In the Kirby Super Star Ultra translation, everything Nova says is uppercase.
    • Despite Nova's countdown being written in English in the Japanese version (as well as "READY"), "GO!" was changed to "BLAST OFF" in the Kirby Super Star translation; this was reverted in the Kirby Super Star Ultra translation.
    • In the Japanese script and in the Kirby Super Star Ultra translation, the countdown is displayed in the next line; in the Kirby Super Star translation, the countdown is on the first line, with "BLAST OFF!" being on the next line.
    • When Marx mentions Kirby's planet, it is written as "POPSTAR" in the Kirby Super Star translation and "Pop Star" in the Kirby Super Star Ultra translation.
    • In the Kirby Super Star translation, Marx says "I can do anything!" after making his wish. In the Kirby Super Star Ultra translation, he instead says "I can cause all the mischief I want!" which is more faithful to the Japanese script.
    • In Kirby Super Star, Marx's laughter is only one block of dialogue (and the translation uses "ha's"). In Kirby Super Star Ultra, his laughter was changed to be two blocks of dialogue (and the translation now uses the more faithful "ho's").
