Kirby Wiki

Metro on Ice is the eighteenth stage in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It is the second stage of Winter Horns. It succeeds Northeast Frost Street and precedes Windy, Freezing Seas.

General Information[]

Kirby arrives via Warp Star outside of an abandoned metro station's entrance. A Chilly resides in a corner, and a Noddy rests on a chair near a food item. Upon descending down the frozen escalators, hazardous, icy terrain awaits Kirby, along with a few Walfs. The path ahead is thin, and freezing water floods the metro system. If Kirby falls in it, he will take damage and respawn on land. It is recommended to inhale a nearby Chilly to obtain the Ice ability, as its immunity to ice on the floor provides for better traction. Up ahead, Kirby can find a small island with two Pop Flowers and a food item. When continuing on the path, there is a small circular platform with many Star Coins scattered around an elevated center. Collecting all of them causes a Star Coin pile to appear on the center. Ahead, Kirby can destroy a stack of crates on the right to reveal a Gotcha Capsule. A Bomber stands on an elevated platform near a frozen train, and it will walk off and explode if it sees Kirby. Several more enemies lie ahead, along with another Bomber. After this, Kirby will fight through an enemy gauntlet on an octagonal platform, which spawns a Hammer Copy Essence when cleared. This is used for the upcoming platform, containing several enemies as well as 4 metal Stakes. Pounding the stakes reveals an icy floor underneath the platform, with a Waddle Dee in a small square pit. Upon rescuing the Waddle Dee, Kirby can proceed upward into the next section.

This section contains more icy floors, as well as introducing large ice spikes that fall from the ceiling. A nearby block requires Kirby to hit 2 stakes, one of which being under an ice spike, to reveal another Gotcha Capsule. Another similar block containing 3 stakes can be found ahead, and 2 of the stakes have ice spikes falling near them. Flattening the stakes moves the block aside, revealing a secret passage. Inside, Kirby must obtain 5 Collect pieces. They are found:

  • In front of a Mookie.
  • To the left of the previous one, on an icy platform with ice spikes falling above.
  • Spawned on the right platform after hitting a stake on the wall.
  • Behind a fence patrolled by 2 Gordos.
  • Under a dome that Kirby must remove before an ice spike above falls on him.

Collecting all of these opens a gate with a Waddle Dee behind. Kirby can then return to the main area. The path ahead contains several Walfs, Balloon-Meisters, and Noddies. After defeating them, Kirby can proceed to the next section.

This section contains several moving platforms, which can crush an inattentive player. One such platform can act as a staircase leading to a higher area, which contains a cone. After obtaining Cone Mouth, Kirby can destroy some Hard Blocks concealing a switch. Pressing this switch causes platforms to retract into the wall, revealing a crack in the ground. Puncturing it reveals a Gotcha Capsule. After this, a large mass of moving platforms threatens to push players into the freezing water, and Kirby occasionally must find safe places to stand. When the platforms completely retract, Kirby may notice a crack in the ground, which, when broken, allows Kirby to follow a path under the platforms. This leads to a cracked pipe, which can create a water geyser. Kirby can then traverse the top of the platforms and complete several missions. After falling back to the ground, Kirby must float over a gap in the floor and avoid a Digguh before heading up another frozen escalator. Frozen spikes constantly fall down on the breaks in the escalators, and a Balloon-Meister throws bombs down the escalator. After making it past these obstacles, the goal is directly ahead.

Missions[]

Italicized missions are hidden from view on the player's first playthrough.

  • Clear the stage: When Kirby clears the stage for the first time, he will automatically rescue 3 Waddle Dee prisoners from the golden cage.
  • Save the hidden Waddle Dees: 4 Waddle Dee prisoners can be found here, their locations being the following:
    • Underneath a platform on which Kirby must pound 4 Stakes to move.
    • In the first sub-area, where Kirby must find 5 Collect pieces to open a gate.
    • In the second section, inside a Treasure Chest behind a Balloon-Meister.
    • High above the icy ground, obtainable while on top of the mass of moving platforms in the third section.
  • Stand on top of 2 trains: 2 frozen trains can be found in the first section, which Kirby must stand on. Their locations are:
    • Directly after the first Gotcha Capsule can be found, near a Bomber. A sparkling spot on the train reveals a few Star Coins.
    • Right after the enemy gauntlet, off to the left. A sparkling spot on this train reveals several spinning Star Coins, which when collected spawn a Star Coin pile.
  • Find 2 secret passages: Two hidden routes can be found in the level, leading to sub-areas. Their locations are:
    • In the second section, behind the block with 3 stakes.
    • Shortly after the first secret passage, along the bottom right of the path. Star Coins and an Invincible Candy can be found behind a storage cabinet.
  • Check inside the shipping container: While on top of the large mass of moving shipping crates, Kirby can enter an open shipping container containing boxes and a Gotcha Capsule.

Trivia[]

  • If Kirby reaches the end with Cone Mouth and uses it on the plate to the side of the gold cage, Star Coins will drop down.
  • Using the Hammer Super Jump Glitch to go out of bounds at the end causes the background to significantly dim.
