Mamanti[1] is a large enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. It is more durable than other enemies and yields no Copy Ability when inhaled.

Physical Appearance

Mamanti looks like a combination of a Blipper and a manta ray. It is blue and spotted with a yellow face and underside. This enemy has a face and goggles similar to those of a Blipper.

Games

Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Kirby: Planet Robobot, and Kirby Star Allies

Mamanti is first seen in Lollipop Land and it appears in many levels thereafter. These enemies exhibit various behaviors in and out of water. Some only swim back and forth, paying no attention to Kirby. In contrast, other Mamantis slowly pursue the pink puff when he enters the water. A few of these enemies swim in circles between the foreground and background.

When Kirby is on land, Mamantis will often leap out of the water in an attempt to hit him. While some jump at him vertically, others leap from the background into the foreground. If knocked onto land, the enemy will flop around helplessly.

Etymology

Mamanti's name seems to be derived from the word "manta," the aquatic ray the foe is based on. Given its implied maternal role to Blippers, its name could also be derived from the word "mama." Their name may possibly even come from "manatee".

Trivia

  • On May 12, 2019, the official Kirby Twitter released a post to celebrate Mother's Day. The image suggests that Mamanti are mothers or the adult stage to Blippers.[2]
  • Mamanti, Nruff, Pitch Mama, Big Birdee, Dyna Blade, and Hot Wings are the only known mothers to appear in the Kirby video game series.
