|“||Kanys are crab-like creatures whose claws can really damage you. Fortunately, they're often asleep. Quickly inhale them as soon as you see them, especially if you're going to be in the water or the air above them.”|
|— Description • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards Official Strategy Guide (Prima)|
In Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kany is a small red crab with a light red underbelly and big, round eyes. In Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Kany is still red, but it instead has a yellow underbelly and an opening in its body that reveals glowing yellow eyes.
Kany makes its first appearance in this game. It walks side by side and often tries to attack Kirby with its claws.
Kany's latest appearance is in this game. Here, it still walks back and forth, but this time it does so more slowly. Sometimes it will just sit in one spot. When Kirby comes close enough, it will snip with both of its claws a few times before sitting again. If Kirby lifts Kany up out of his mouth after having inhaled it, it will constantly (and slowly) snip with both claws until Kirby either swallows it again or tosses it.

Kany made appearances in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, in the episodes A Fish Called Kine and Pink-Collar Blues. They are much smaller in proportion to Kirby in the anime than they are in the games. Its appearance in the anime seems to resemble Peezer with another eye more than Kany from the games, and they also use the design they had in Kirby's Dream Land 3.
Kany's name comes from the Japanese word for crab, kani.
- Craby, an enemy from Kirby's Return to Dream Land, has an attack pattern that is nearly identical to Kany's attack pattern in Kirby's Dream Land 3.
