The Jamba Heart is a mysterious, powerful object introduced in Kirby Star Allies. It is not obtainable by the players as an item, but it has a central role in the game's plot.

Physical Appearance

Normally, the Jamba Heart is a large, heart-shaped dark purple crystal, with its structure pierced by several pink Heart Spears. It was split into dark purple Jamba Heart shards that resembled small versions of the complete heart. They were joined by pink shards of the Heart Spears.

Kirby Star Allies

KSA Jamba Heart Piece

A Jamba Heart piece crashes into King Dedede's Castle.

Long before the events of Kirby Star Allies, a "dark power" was sealed away inside of the Jamba Heart by a group of heroes. This was accomplished with the use of several Heart Spears, which remained embedded inside of the Jamba Heart, keeping its evil energy locked away.

Due to a failed ritual performed by Hyness at The Divine Terminus, numerous fragments of the broken Jamba Heart and Heart Spears were scattered all over the galaxy, including Planet Popstar. The Jamba Shards are the reason most of the bosses act hostile towards Kirby and Co., and they also provide their hosts with the ability to power up after being damaged enough.

Kirby was hit by a pink shard, which was not dispersed by the Jamba Heart, but rather the Heart Spears which were containing it in its seal. This awoke him from his afternoon nap. The shard granted him the ability to create Friend Hearts, which was unknown to him at the time. Kirby then noticed that a large, dark cloud had formed above Castle Dedede and a bunch of Waddle Dees carrying food to there, and headed there to investigate, while making Friends using his newfound power. While Kirby managed to purge Dream Land's inhabitants from the influence of the Jamba Shards, he never got the opportunity to collect a shard, as they usually flew away from him and his friends. Kirby chased the Shards all over Popstar and finding others afflicted by the Jamba Shards. These Shards were able to flee as well. Just after Meta Knight was defeated, the fortress of Jambastion appeared in Popstar, which led Kirby to a final set of Jamba Shards, which were scattered throughout the galaxy.

After finding them, Kirby and his friends were able to dispel the barrier protecting Jambandra Base, which was apparently the source of all the trouble they had. At the climax of the game, it is revealed by Hyness that a being known as Void Termina was sealed in the Jamba Heart all along, and that the Jamba Shards were being assembled back into the Jamba Heart, which had the power to free this "Dark Lord" from imprisonment. When Kirby defeats Void Termina for the third time, he utilizes the power of the pink heart to summon apparitions of all the Friends he's made during his journey. Together, they finally destroy Void Termina, completing the Story Mode.

Etymology

"Jamba" is derived from Jama (邪魔), which can mean "hindrance" or a "disturbance." This references its behavior throughout the game, causing bosses to become corrupted when in possession of it. "Heart" simply refers to its shape.

Trivia

  • Some of the corruption of bosses that are infected with the Jamba Heart matches some of the physical appearance and abilities of Void Termina and his core variants.
    • Whispy Woods' enlargement (although his variants can do this without the corruption of the Heart) and raining a massive amount of apples matches Void Termina's huge size and hos ability of raining lihhtning spears.
    • King Dedede's muscular body, large arms and short legs matches those of Void Termina.
    • Meta Knight's splitting ability matches Void Soul's/Void's ability of splitting into four orbs (or the core of Void Termina's ability of sending smaller versions of itself).
