Invasion at the House of Horrors is the fourteenth stage in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It is the third stage of Wondaria Remains. It succeeds Circuit Speedway and precedes The Wondaria Dream Parade.

General Information[]

Kirby enters a dark funhouse in Wondaria called the House of Horrors. It has a space theme running through it; black lights illuminate star and planet patterns on the walls and floors, and Surprise Alien Boards pop out to startle guests. Upon beginning the level, Kirby must enter the funhouse through the mouth of a mechanical monster slowly shaking Wondog in a rocket back and forth. Once he enters, Kirby cannot leave through the entrance. He instead must proceed through several tight corridors, encountering several Surprise Alien Boards and Spooksteps along the way. A Sir Kibble and Phanta also attempt to attack the player before another Board. Another few Phantas attempt to attack Kirby as he waits for a Board to disappear while standing on Breakable Blocks. After this, two Alien Boards attempt to scare Kirby at the same time. A Sir Kibble after this guards the Door leading to the next section.

The next section requires use of the Light-Bulb Mouth, as it is extremely dark and contains many Solar-Panel Switches. Surprise Alien Boards still try to frighten the player, and the player must jump on platforms appearing from the wall to not get pushed into the pit. After a jump across the pit, Kirby can activate another Solar-Panel Switch, which brings a platform containing food and Star Coin piles up. He can then go to the right and continue briefly before another Alien Board pops out. Three platforms jut from the wall, and if he climbs them in time, Kirby can collect a Gotcha Capsule. After this part, Kirby sees the stage's first Ghost Gordo and must take a path curving around it. It only moves towards Kirby if he has the lightbulb on, so he must balance seeing the path with the danger of the Ghost Gordo. After reaching the end of that path, Kirby can go up to find another Solar-Panel Switch which is in range of the Ghost Gordo's sight, but the platform it brings up has more coins and a Gotcha Capsule. He can then go to the left and make a jump over another Ghost Gordo to enter a bonus room. Here, Kirby must use Cutter to send a boomerang through a hole in a gate and hit a crate containing either a Waddle Dee or Gordo. Once that is done, he can exit the room and activate a Solar-Panel Switch to cause platforms to appear out of the wall, allowing him to scale the wall. He can then go through a door to enter the final section.

Kirby is immediately forced to lose the lightbulb, as he must climb a ladder to proceed. He can find a large square platform with more Spooksteps and a Hot Head before making a choice between 2 picture frames. One is correct and contains the path forward, and the other will crush Kirby if he gets too close. The left option is correct, although triggering the right painting to fall over causes a Treasure Chest containing food items and a green Star Coin to spawn on the left. He can battle a few more ghost enemies before making another decision on the correct image, this time in relation to climbing a wall. The right option is correct, and contains a Bomber which should be inhaled to deal with the next section. Kirby can also collect a Gotcha Capsule to the left of the top of the stairs he climbs up. Right after, a large amount of Phantas and Spooksteps appear and ambush Kirby, but can be dealt with quickly if he copied the Crash ability previously. A Sir Kibble and Needlous are found after, allowing the player to get Mix before facing another pick-a-picture. The right image is correct, but Kirby should cause the left image to fall to obtain the Vending Mouth behind it. The next section contains two moving platforms where the player must dodge Surprise Alien Boards, or destroy them with the aforementioned Vending Mouth. The second moving platform is faster and contains more aliens. After he makes it past, the goal is directly in sight.

Missions[]

Italicized missions are hidden from view on the player's first playthrough.

  • Clear the stage: When Kirby clears the stage for the first time, he will automatically rescue 3 Waddle Dee prisoners from the golden cage.
  • Save the hidden Waddle Dees: 4 Waddle Dee prisoners can be found here, their locations being the following:
    • In a floating crate shifting between the Waddle Dee and a Gordo, found to the right of the first door; Kirby must time hitting the crate when the Waddle Dee appears.
    • In the bonus room, contained in the same crate type as the first Waddle Dee.
    • Behind a gate that can be unlocked by activating a Solar-Panel Switch near 2 Ghost Gordos; can be found from a path at the bottom right of the platform containing the dark room's door.
    • Hidden behind 3 consecutive Surprise Alien Boards near the end of the stage.
  • Clear without touching any Ghost Gordos: Kirby will encounter several Ghost Gordos in the Light-Bulb Mouth section. If none of them touch Kirby, the mission is completed when Kirby clears the stage.
  • Eat 3 of the ghosts' hidden snacks: 3 Food items are hidden in small places throughout the level, their locations being:
    • In the bottom-right corner after the second Surprise Alien Board, guarded by 4 Spooksteps that appear.
    • At the end of the Light-Bulb Mouth section, to the left of the door.
    • After the large ghost ambush, behind the right pile of hexagons.
  • Destroy 13 aliens by using Vending Mouth: The Vending Mouth can be found behind the third fake picture frame, and it can be used to destroy the Surprise Alien Boards. Thirteen must be destroyed to complete the mission.

Blueprint[]

The Time Crash Blueprint is located in a narrow alcove near the end. After climbing a ladder and defeating a cluster of ghost enemies, Kirby must float into a hole on the left side of the next platform. He should continue left after the red Star Coin to find the blueprint. The Blueprint can be used to evolve the Crash ability at Waddle Dee's Weapons Shop.

Trivia[]

  • The music that plays when Kirby traverses the Haunted House section of the level is titled "Pitch Black Horror." It is later remixed with an Arabian/Egyptian vibe when he is in the cave section of Moonlight Canyon. The original version comes back when Kirby needs to use the Light Bulb again to illuminate his path in a section of Forgo Park, and the remix plays in the tunnel segment of Forgo Wasteland.
  • Kirby can walk behind the goal to find a Blue Star Coin.
