“ | Hydriath lives in the oceans of this dimension. Born from water and ice, his powerful brawler moves flow smoothly and effortlessly. His Fruit Fragment will go to his boss—unless you steal it first!” |
— VS Hydriath • Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe |
Hydriath is a boss in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe as one of the bosses of Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler. He is an aquatic counterpart to Goriath, being fought in the Poseiblu Dimension.
Physical Appearance[]
Hydriath is based off of Goriath, but with some notable differences. He is covered in sea blue scales and has a pale green fish tail and fins on both sides of his face, a black mask around his yellow eyes, and a white beard and snout. His hair is made out of water, his hands and feet are black, and he wears a gold crown adorned with emeralds. Additionally, he dons two gold gears wrapped around his hands.
When Hydriath becomes enraged halfway through the battle, his eyes turn red and his hair, fins, beard, and tail turn golden-yellow. In this state, he also gains an ominous red aura.
Games[]
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[]
Hydriath is the boss of Poseiblu Dimension, guarding a piece of the Fruit Fragment on orders from his boss. When Magolor enters the arena, Hydriath leaps out of the sky to confront him, at which point he smashes the ground they stand on as the battle begins.
In battle, Hydriath take much of his moveset from Goriath himself, although his moves are infused with the Splash effect, and new techniques are given to Hydriath that Goriath himself lacked. In one, Hydriath can now teleport. This technique can be combined with his wall-jumping technique to make him harder to hit and can also be combined with his punch to make his fist harder to dodge and his bounce-off-the-walls, hadouken, and ground pound attacks to throw off Magolor. The snowballs that Goriath throws in his snowball attack have been replaced with water globules that arc through the air a bit in Hydriath's version. When Hydriath does his hadouken attack, the projectile is now a water bubble that bounces around the stage rather than a fireball that travels straight forward. Hydriath can also create water balls that fly out when he slams the ground from a high altitude, and when he slams the ground from a low altitude, he summons water drops from the ceiling. Once Hydriath goes down, Magolor gets his hands on a Fruit Fragment and his Black Hole move.
Etymology[]
Hydriath's name is a portmanteau of the prefix "hydro-/hydr-," which means "water," referencing his element; and "Goriath," referencing the boss he's based on.
