An ancient war machine that somehow drifted into this universe from another dimension. What a dream battle!
— VS HR-D3 • Kirby's Return to Dream Land

HR-D3 is a giant mechanical construct resembling King Dedede. A variation of it first appeared in the spin-off title Kirby's Dream Course, and later made a totally redesigned reappearance in released material for the unreleased Kirby GCN. Its incarnation in Kirby Mass Attack resembles this model, except it is much smaller. Prior to Kirby's Return to Dream Land, the mech had no name, and was referred to as Robo Mecha Dedede.

Its first incarnation in Kirby's Dream Course is a clockwork-like entity. It is uncannily similar to King Dedede right down to the proportions and rounded belly, but has a drill on the right hand and a pincer-like claw on the left. It did little but spawn miniature Dededes and charge onwards with a rather menacing look on the face. Its reappearance in Kirby GCN material is completely otherwise, however, and its only resemblance to Dedede is in its painted patterns and having his trademark symbol on the its chest. While it retains its right driller, its left arm was given a proper hand. Its ultimate weapon is a laser cannon that reveals itself when its head flips open. This version made its surprise official series appearance in Kirby Mass Attack as a boss in Chapter 2 of Kirby Quest; upon its defeat, King Dedede collapses in disbelief. It made yet another surprise appearance in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, where Metal General EX interfaced with it. It is implied that the ancient civilization of Halcandra initially created it. In the same game, there is also a Robo Dedede as the Level 3 boss of Scope Shot, which is much more similar in appearance to the Dream Course boss.

The HR part of its name is a reference to HR-H, whereas the D3 part may be a nod to King Dedede's unofficial nickname, "Triple D".

Attacks

KSA Cleaning Kirby Artwork This section needs cleaning up

HR-D3 mainly attacks by slamming its giant fist and drill into the ground. The war machine will also regularly fly offscreen to do one of three things: Either to shoot eye lasers in a wide arc, having its pilot, Metal General EX, open its head to rain down missiles on Kirby, or to heat up its hand and drill and spin, sweeping the floor. After all of its health is gone, HR-D3 seemingly is defeated. However, it will regain all of its health, and jump back into the fray (albeit severly wrecked and trashed). HR-D3 gains new attacks in this brutally beaten form, such as body slamming the player, once again trying to punch and impale Kirby (The latter electrified, therefore greater power, and done three times in a row), once again using its heat sweep attack in the air this time, and even firing a gargantuan laser cannon that does severe damage if not avoided. After being defeated once more, the metalic monstrosity, along with its power-crazed pilot, is taken down for good.
