If you hear a rumble in the ruins, you're probably near a Grindarr. Those things will squash you flat if you stop under them. So don't do that.
— Daroach • Kirby Mass Attack

Grindarrs are enemies appearing in Kirby Mass Attack and will appear in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. They first appear in the ruins of Sandy Canyon and later in the haunted areas of Volcano Valley. Two Grindarrs also appear in Kirby Quest; in Stage 16 of Chapter 2.

Appearance

Grindarrs are rectangular, stone blocks that hang from a long, silver chain. They have no hands, but have feet with three digits on each. They have a pair of vigilant eyes, a small nose, and a large oblong mouth. They come in a brown, cracked variant and a solid, gray variant. These heavyweights are most commonly found in Sandy Canyon, though a number them can also be found in Volcano Valley.

Attacks

Grindarrs only attack by attempting to crush the Kirbys from above. However, a Grindarr will only attempt to crush the Kirbys if they are nearby, which is noted by a grunting noise. After they touch the ground, they will slowly rise up and await for another attack. If any Kirbys are squished, they get KO'd instantly.

Gray Grindarrs cannot be defeated, but the brown ones can. A few hits from the Kirbys will destroy the brown ones, either to reveal fruit or a chain that can be pulled on.

Trivia

  • Grindarrs are very similar — in both appearance and in attack patterns — to Thwomp from Super Mario Bros..
  • The European Kirby Mass Attack website mistakenly calls this enemy 'Gobchomplin.'
