While not making its debut in these games, the Ghost Copy Ability appears in the Kirby Fighters sub-game and the Kirby Fighters Deluxe eShop game, and serve as a direct predecessor to the form's appearance in Kirby Fighters 2. In multiplayer and training mode, there is an option to enable or disable Ghosts; this is enabled by default. If enabled, when a player is defeated, the defeated Kirby transforms into a Ghost Kirby, although instead of only being a light blue, each Ghost Kirby retains its normal colors. A ghost Kirby can attack non-ghosts to deal slight damage (it cannot KO them) and, more importantly, return back to life with some health restored; getting defeated after being revived results in a progressively longer period before the Kirby transforms into a ghost.
Kirby Fighters 2[]

In Kirby Fighters 2, the ghost form makes its proper debut, and all characters other than Kirby can also take on the form of a ghost and it can also be used in Story Mode: The Destined Rivals as it gives the player a buddy for every battle. The option to toggle a Revival Boost can be done in Battle Mode which gives player more health upon revival. The appearance of the ghost will also depend on the player color the fighter has taken.
Ghosts have some techniques to attack with, in addition to vanishing: a punch, a charged double punch, and a forwards tackle (similarly to the Copy Ability move for Ghost). All these attacks have a slight startup, taking about a second to execute when the button is pressed. Attacking also has somewhat long endlag, especially Tackle which may result in having to slowly chase down an opponent again for another chance of hitting them. Being hit as a ghost also makes the fighters flinch. However, ghosts are immune to being stunned by very powerful attacks, simply pushing them a deal away allowing them to move about more quickly.
Turning into ghosts have a prominent factor in the game's Story Mode. 300 bonus "No Revival" Fighters Points are given to a player if they manage to win a round against two Kirbys without either of them getting a chance to revive themselves. Additionally, the Ghost Stone Story Items increases the Ghost Boost stat, which decreases the time required to become a ghost, as well as giving more health upon revival. The Cursed Ghost Ring can also be picked up in the Item Room making it so that opponents cannot turn into ghost, however this also applies for the player and their buddy; wearing this ring will always give the player the "No Revival" 300 point bonus. Contrary to Kirby Fighters Deluxe, ghosts can be accessed in boss battles, and hitting a boss when transformed into a ghost will successfully revive the fighter.
