Food Boxes appear in all three game modes in Kirby's Dream Buffet. Running into one will open the box and reveal certain items.

During a race, breaking a Food Box will drop a random Copy Food or Invincible Candy. Although randomized, what type of Copy Food Kirby gets (and how long it lasts) is based on his position in the race. For example, if Kirby is in last place, he is more likely to obtain a Hi-Jump Gummy than if he was in first place. If Kirby runs into another Food Box with a Copy Food still stored or in use, he will instead receive three strawberries. Additionally, breaking one Food Box in a race will not allow Kirby to break another one for a few seconds, turning all nearby Food Boxes transparent.

Food Boxes also appear within minigames only giving Kirby a Copy Food or three strawberries. In a battle royale, Food Boxes give Kirby either a Copy Food, strawberries of 1, 3, or 10, or an Invincibility Candy. Food Boxes also appear in Free Rolling giving Kirby the same items as in a battle royale.
