It must feel nice to float around all day. Beware of its stinging tentacles!
— Cast Description • Kirby's Epic Yarn

Sea Jellies (Sky Jellies in Europe) are rare enemies in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby's Epic Yarn.

Physical Appearance[]

Sea Jellies look like giant orange jellyfish with four white tentacles and purple and yellow button eyes.

Games[]

Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn[]

Sea Jellies only appear in Mushroom Run. Sea Jellies do not usually attack Kirby, but rather hinder his ability to move by creating spores. If these spores touch Kirby or Prince Fluff, they will be unable to move until they shake the spores off. This makes Kirby and the prince vulnerable to enemy attacks such as Waddle Doos, Shelbies, and Buttonbees. If Kirby stands on one of them for too long, however, they will electrify themselves, which is a very short range area attack. Getting close to one or using the Yarn Whip on one during this time will cause Kirby or Prince Fluff to get hurt.

Etymology[]

Sea Jelly's name comes from "Jelly," referencing its species as a jellyfish; the "sea/sky" part is likely a misnomer.

Its Japanese name, キクラゲン (Kikuragen), is a portmanteau of the Japanese word for jellyfish, クラゲ/くらげ/海月/水母 (kurage); and the Japanese word for cloud ear mushroom, キクラゲ/きくらげ/木耳 (kikurage).

Trivia[]

  • Even though they are called Sea Jellies, they are never seen in the ocean.
  • In the official Prima guide, these are mistaken as Spore Jellies.
