Fresh ocean air and warm sunlight helped Tropic Woods grow big and strong. Its giant coconuts will cause big explosions after they drop. It has non exploding coconuts too, and they're supposed to be delicious! Few have ever tasted them...but many have tried.
— Capsule Description • Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Tropic Woods is a boss in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It is a tropical relative of Whispy Woods.

Physical Appearance[]

Tropic Woods is a massive, sentient palm tree. Its face consists of two hollow eyes and a mouth, along with a patch of bark bristle that gives the appearance of a goatee under its mouth. Its crown is brown and adorned with red, white, and pink flowers, along with what appears to be coconuts and long, humongous fronds.

Games[]

Kirby and the Forgotten Land[]

Tropic Woods appears as a boss in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, serving as the boss of Everbay Coast, with the boss title of Unfriendly Fronds.

When first encountered, it appears as a normal palm tree, but when Kirby and Elfilin encounters the tree after they saw three Waddle Dees trapped in a cage and fly away, it will grow a face, wakes up, and roar, provoking the battle.

In battle, Tropic Woods has a variety of attacks to damage Kirby, with majority of them shared from Whispy Woods in previous games. Tropic Woods can spit a burst of air that travels straight but slightly spreads out as it travels. These air bursts can be flown over safely. It can also drop exploding coconuts that will detonate after a few seconds. Exploding coconuts will leave a star when they explode, allowing Kirby to inhale them back at Tropic Woods.

When it only has half its health left, Tropic Woods will roar again and push Kirby to the back of the arena. Its air blowing attack is enhanced to blow a barrage of air in the entire area forward, which can only be easily dodged by floating over the air puffs. Tropic Woods can be able to pull out a fence from the ground near itself to deflect attacks that hits the fence. If Kirby is under where a fence would spawn, he will take damage and be thrown back when it rises up, discouraging Kirby from attacking Tropic Woods too closely. It can also summon roots to attack Kirby at a far distance, which will remain stationary after the attack is done and limits Kirby's space to dodge coconuts. Kirby can either climb atop of the roots or destroy them with attacks (which is required for a secret objective on the boss level), although destroying the roots will not make Tropic Woods lose additional health.

Upon defeat, it will shed a tear, much like Whispy Woods, and give Kirby the three Waddle Dees.

Tropic Woods had a Phantom counterpart created in Isolated Isles: Forgo Dreams, as with every other Story Mode boss. Tropic Woods can also be fought in the Colosseum on both the Meta Knight Cup and The Ultimate Cup.

Trivia[]

  • Tropic Woods is one of the few bosses in Kirby and the Forgotten Land that is not a member or affiliated with the Beast Pack; this is because it is a plant instead of an animal. The others being Meta Knight, who resisted Fecto Forgo's control and is only fought in the Colosseum as a friendly sparring match, and the Phantom bosses, who are created by Fecto Forgo itself.
  • Unlike most variations of Whispy Woods, Tropic Woods is fought as the second boss of its respective game.
