Beware of the sand! You'll sink in ten seconds! And something lurks in the sand...

Snipper is an enemy debuting in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.

Physical Appearance[]

Snipper is a small yellow bug with round eyes, tiny legs, and very large jaws relative to its bodies, which is exaggerated with its appearance. He behaves and appears similarly to antlion larvae, which are known to create sinking pits of sand that they use to trap and ambush prey.

Games[]

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[]

Snipper can be found in sandy areas where it buries itself into the ground. Snipper stays in one deep spot waiting for Kirby to come by so it can jump up, try to grab him with a bite, pull him underground, and then spit him back above ground, causing him damage. Kirby can tell where it's hiding because smoke will come out of the ground from its hiding spot. It cannot be defeated.

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble[]

Snipper reprises its role by burying itself within sand pits, however its presence is more well hidden as it does not produce smoke from the sand. Instead, if the Game Boy Color is shaken, any buried Snippers will pop out revealing their location before they bury themselves back into the sand. Unlike in its previous game appearance, Snipper will immediately emerge and strike Kirby if he rolls on top of its hiding spot, simply dealing one life point without ensnaring him in its jaws.

Etymology[]

Snipper's name is likely derived from the verb "snip," referring to how it slams its scissor-like pincers together in an attempt to grab Kirby.

Its Japanese name ジバサミ (Jibasami) is a combination of the words for ground/earth (地 ji) and scissors/pincers (鋏/剪刀/螯/はさみ hasami).

Related Quotes[]

Often found at the bottom of sand pits, Snippers jump and try to gobble Kirby up as he jumps or flies over them.
