Go for it! CHAMPION
— Fighter's Flavour Text • Kirby: Squeak Squad

Fighter iconFighter is One of Kirby's Copy abilities.

In this form, Kirby gains the abilities of a martial artist and boxer, along with being able to fire energy blasts like stereotypical chi/aura fighters, and shows it all off while topped with a red headband. The Headband is similar to the one Kirby used for the Backdrop Ability in Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland.

In Games

Kirby Super Star

Kirby gains a plethora of physical attacks, as well as some defensive moves. This ability is somewhat unique, as it is the one in the game which changes moves depending on how long the button is held.

  • Vulcan Jab - Kirby will fire a series of weak, but incredibly fast punches with an amazing firing rate.
  • Smash Punch - Kirby will fire a single, strong punch.
  • Leg Sweep - Kirby will perform a slide attack, and harm anything in his way
  • Spin Kick - Kirby will perform a running kick into whatever is in his way
  • Down Kick - Kirby assumes a defensive stance, and attacks anything which comes in contact with him as he falls
  • Double Kick - Similar to the Smash Punch, Kirby will perform a short range kick around him in midair, and then fire off a kick, taking out anything in its path
  • Rising Break - Kirby performs a massive uppercut, jumping high in the air and attacking anything in the way.
  • Arm Throw - Kirby grabs an enemy and throws them ahead of them, attacking whatever he threw them into
  • Tomoe Throw - Kirby grabs an enemy and throws them behind him, attacking whatever he threw them into. (The Helper, Knuckle Joe, cannot use this attack. Also, 'Tomoe' simply means 'Overheap', but was not translated for some reason.)

Kirby & the Amazing Mirror

After a rather long hiatus, Fighter returned in Kirby's adventure in the Mirror World. It was looks unchanged from its first appearance, but with a different and new attacks. Kirby can still perform the Vulcan Jab, but after a moment will continue with a string of different combo punches. He also retains the Rising Break and can perform a new spin kick while dashing and attacking in midair. Finally, he gains the ability to launch a energy blast after charging, which becomes stronger if his health is low. Kirby's Vulcan Jab is also part of the Smash ability. If the red Kirby gets the fighter ability, the headband is white.

Kirby Squeak Squad

Fighter is largely unchanged from its iteration in Kirby & the Amazing Mirror. However, after finding the Copy Scroll, Kirby can charge up the energy ball longer to power it up more.

Move list:

  • Vulcan Jab (B)
  • Small uppercut (B repeatedly after Vulcan Jab)
  • Lowercut (B after the Small uppercut)
  • Hold B to charge up an energy blast. There are three charge levels:
    • Slight charge: Very weak.
    • Moderate charge: Passes through multiple enemies, but not multiple blocks.
    • Full charge (Fighter Scroll needed): Passes through multiple enemies and blocks. Can also destroy multiple grey blocks.
  • Spinning Kick (B in midair)
  • Big Uppercut (Up + B)
  • Kick (B while dashing)
  • Side + B near enemy: Kirby performs a grab attack similar to Ninja's- though this won't destroy any blocks in the process.
  • Ninja Kick (Down + B in midair)

In the Super Smash Bros Series

Some of Fighter's attacks are used as part of Kirby's regular attacks, in particular the Vulcan Jab and the Spin Kick. Fighter is one of the three Copy abilities turned into a Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee, the others being Fire and Ball. Fighter will Once again be a Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Captain Falcon also uses a moveset simliar to Fighter's abilities, posibly inspired by them.

Knuckle Joe also uses these moves in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Kirby: Right Back At Ya!

The Fighter ability in the anime is most like the version in Super Star. The look of it is the same, with a simple red headband. Kirby uses all of the same attacks as the Super Star version at some point in the series.

He most often gets the ability in episodes featuring Knuckle Joe, from inhaling one of the boy fighter's attacks. Fighter is one of his strongest abilities, used against powerful demon beasts like Masher, with the strongest attack being the Rising Break.

Fighter Kirby's abilities are best displayed in episode 53, where he participates in a Battle Royal against five different fighters:a kung fu guy,a boxer,a karate expert,an old martial master, and a sumo wrestler using a variety of moves.

Trivia

  • The red headband Kirby wears for this ability is said to be a homage to the Street Fighter character, Ryu, though it has been neither confirmed nor denied. Some say an even bigger reference to the series is that Fighter Kirby can fire energy blasts or "Hadouken".
