— Fecto Forgo • Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Fecto Forgo, also referred to as specimen ID-F86 and the Great One, is a character in the Kirby series, debuting as the overarching antagonist of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. They are the malevolent half of Fecto Elfilis.

Physical Appearance[]

In their larva form, Fecto Forgo resembles a mouse-like fetus. They have a large head covered in purplish-blue veins with massive ears and a small body. Their body is pink with a teal backside. They have blue eyes with white pupils and whisker-like protrusions on the sides of their face and protrusions below both ears. Their tail is curved to their front and their arms are tucked into their chest. Their arms, tail, and the protrusions on their head are pink with teal tips. The left side of their head is noticeably melted, mirroring the chip in Elfilin's right ear, likely due to being incomplete.

After breaking out of the Eternal Capsule, Fecto Forgo's body degenerates into a mass of teal goop that project tendrils in order to capture and absorb other beings. After absorbing numerous members of the Beast Pack, they develop into a hideous chimera-like abomination. Their main face resembles a hot pink version of Leongar, with exaggerated fangs and several tendrils within their mouth. Leongar's left ear has been replaced by a Buffahorn's horn, while his right ear resembles that of a Primal Awoofy. The bodies and faces of an Awoofy, a Rabiroo, a Gnawcodile, a Digguh, a Poison Croakom, a Balloon-Meister, and four Sssnackers can also be seen protruding from Fecto Forgo's blobby mass, all displaying black eyes with a series of concentric white and pink rings for irises around tiny white pupils. A recreation of Leongar's left arm protrudes from the left edge of the chimera, which is used to help drag the otherwise limbless monstrosity along.

Soul Forgo has a similar shape to the larva form but has an iridescent purple color and is surrounded by a ghostly aura, and their eyes are now a bright white; after Forgo Leon is defeated, Soul Forgo briefly takes on a corporeal form similar to the original Fecto Forgo before being consumed by a Butterfly that takes on the form of Morpho Knight.

General Information and History[]

Fecto Forgo is the incomplete, malevolent half of another being known as Fecto Elfilis, a hostile creature that hails from the depths of outer space. Fecto Elfilis had the power to create dimensional rifts and travel through them to other dimensions, an ability inherited by both Elfilin and Fecto Forgo; much like Fecto Forgo, they used those powers to further their own invasive purposes.

In the distant past, Fecto Elfilis arrived in the forgotten world and began invading the planet by attacking its wildlife; however, their campaign did not get far before a research team of the ancient civilization that once inhabited the planet captured them in the Eternal Capsule, which was custom made to contain their power. The researchers soon began to study Fecto Elfilis's spatial transportation ability within Lab Discovera, the results of which allowed them to become highly advanced in science and create technologies that share Fecto Elfilis's ability; additionally, Fecto Elfilis was also featured as a tourist attraction in the Dream Discoveries Tour of the laboratory. 30 years after the research began, however, an incident occurred during an experiment with Fecto Elfilis's warping ability, in which the creature was split into two separate beings. Their compassionate, more caring side split off into a being known as Elfilin, who escaped the lab in the aftermath, while their malevolent half split off into Fecto Forgo. Without their other half, Fecto Forgo was incomplete and thus remained dormant inside the Eternal Capsule. Sometime after these events, the people of the ancient civilization abandoned the planet with their newfound technology due to overpopulation, leaving Fecto Forgo alone and forgotten in the Eternal Capsule within Lab Discovera.

Many years later, Fecto Forgo was encountered by Leon, one of the leaders of the animal kingdom that had risen up in the previous civilization's absence, who had entered Lab Discovera after stumbling upon it. Sensing an opportunity to escape their confinement, Fecto Forgo used their psychic powers emitted by their dreams to take over Leon's mind, brainwashing him into becoming their minion. Using Leon, now called Leongar, they formed the vicious Beast Pack in order to find - and ultimately consume - their other half, Elfilin, leading into the events of Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

Story[]

By the time of the main story, Fecto Forgo had brainwashed every animal in the animal kingdom into serving under them, and was using them all to try to find and capture Elfilin. However, they still needed more energy to fuel their endeavors, so they sought out an energy source. Without Elfilin's soul to temper their power, their spatial teleportation ability ran amok and opened dimensional rifts throughout various dimensions. One such dimension was Kirby's dimension, where the rifts opened right above the skies of Dream Land and proceeded to suck the residents of Dream Land, including Kirby himself, to Fecto Forgo's dimension.

Once the residents of Dream Land arrived, Fecto Forgo concluded that the Waddle Dees were a suitable power source, so they maneuvered the Beast Pack into capturing all the Waddle Dees they could so as to bring them to Lab Discovera, where they would be forced to run in wheels like hamsters to power Fecto Forgo's efforts. Additionally, Fecto Forgo's psychic powers allowed them to take over the mind of King Dedede shortly after he arrived, forcing him to join the Beast Pack; they also tried to control Meta Knight, but failed due to his sheer force of will. Regardless, the mass abduction of the Waddle Dees prompted Kirby and Elfilin to venture out to save them from the Beast Pack.

Much later, after Kirby and Elfilin defeated the brainwashed King Dedede in Winter Horns, they were too busy celebrating to notice that the king had recovered and was right behind Elfilin. Dedede captured Elfilin in a cage and fled the scene via a group of Clockers from the Beast Pack, forcing Kirby to give chase to the Forbidden Island. There, Dedede brought Elfilin to Lab Discovera, where both Fecto Forgo and Leongar were residing.

After Kirby arrives at Lab Discovera, Leongar introduces him to Fecto Forgo, stating that he plans to reunite Elfilin and Fecto Forgo into Fecto Elfilis so as to gain the same teleportation abilities that the previous civilization gained from them. Leongar thus attacks Kirby in order to stop him from thwarting his plan, but when Kirby proves too powerful, Fecto Forgo takes matters into their own hands and takes control of Leongar's mind, fighting Kirby with his body. Leongar is still not powerful enough to defeat Kirby, however, and is launched through the glass surrounding the Eternal Capsule as Kirby frees Elfilin from containment. After Kirby and Elfilin celebrate, Fecto Forgo takes control of Leongar's body once more and speaks through it. Enraged that Kirby had foiled all of their plans, the alien invader decided to simply destroy and consume everything, breaking out of the Eternal Capsule before melting into a teal-like goop. Fecto Forgo subsequently absorbs Leongar, as well as other members of the Beast Pack who had arrived to defend the Beast Pack's leader, into their mass, transforming into a massive, chimera-like abomination.

Fecto Forgo, in their monstrous new form, chases Kirby and Elfilin through Lab Discovera's hallways, but is eventually defeated by Kirby. The disintegrating chimera unsuccessfully tries to absorb Kirby before seizing and consuming Elfilin, who was distracted at the time, reuniting the two into Fecto Elfilis once more. Fecto Forgo, now as Fecto Elfilis, flies toward the rooftop of a building with Kirby following right behind. There, Fecto Elfilis fully reforms and does battle with Kirby, but Kirby prevails and defeats them before freeing Elfilin from within Fecto Elfilis using Dome Mouth. In an attempt to wreak vengeance on Kirby, the now unstable Fecto Elfilis opens a large dimensional rift to Kirby's dimension and begins to draw Planet Popstar through it in order to crash the two planets into each other. To protect the two planets, Kirby inhales a big rig truck, becoming Big-Rig Mouth Kirby, and drives through the floating debris towards Fecto Elfilis. They summon several large chunks of debris from dimensional rifts in an attempt to stop him, but Kirby dodges them before jumping toward the invader. After summoning a third large chunk of debris, Fecto Elfilis attempts to protect themself with it, but with help from Elfilin, Kirby plows through the debris and destroys the physical form of Fecto Elfilis.

Fecto Forgo, with their physical form destroyed, became a spirit known as Soul Forgo and retreated to the Isolated Isles: Forgo Dreams, a world created by their dreams when they were trapped within the Eternal Capsule in Lab Discovera, taking Leongar with them. There, they plotted to continue their invasions by creating an army of phantom beasts, as well as to take over Leongar's body and use it as a vessel; to facilitate this second goal, they shattered Leongar's soul into at least 300 pieces and scattered them throughout the realm. Kirby and Elfilin arrive in the Isolated Isles through a dimensional rift at Waddle Dee Town, and they begin to collect the shards of Leongar's soul.

Kirby and Elfilin eventually collect all of the shards of Leongar's soul, which light the way to where his body is. Once they arrive, Elfilin restores Leongar with the pieces of his soul, and they all prematurely celebrate before Soul Forgo seizes control of Leongar once more, using him to fight against Kirby. Kirby prevails and expels Soul Forgo out of Leongar's body. Soul Forgo, angered by Kirby ruining its plans yet again, prepares to face against the hero themself. However, a butterfly then flutters in and lands on Soul Forgo's snout before subsequently absorbing them, using their power to become Morpho Knight, who then battles Kirby. The hero defeats the mysterious knight who then dissipates, allowing Soul Forgo to turn the tables and absorb its power instead, transforming them into Chaos Elfilis, who then teleports away.

In the Ultimate Cup Z of the Colosseum in Waddle Dee Town, Kirby and Elfilin enter a dimensional rift within the Colosseum and travel through another world to face all of Soul Forgo's phantom creations yet again before they make their way to the helipad where Kirby had previously fought Fecto Elfilis. Chaos Elfilis suddenly descends from the sky and dukes it out with Kirby in one last shot at revenge. Kirby initially defeats them and rips out their core via the Dome Mouth, but Chaos Elfilis's core then battles Kirby itself; Kirby ultimately prevails, causing Chaos Elfilis to dissipate into particles of light. One particle - the last piece of life remaining from Fecto Forgo - willingly makes its way to Elfilin, who then absorbs it into himself, finally putting an end to Fecto Forgo and allowing them to become whole again.

Battle[]

In the battle against Fecto Forgo's monstrous form, they give chase to the player at various speeds (the fastest being slightly faster than Kirby's default running speed) through a long hallway. Enemies appear along the way (Sir Kibble, Bernard, and Hot Head) to supply ammo or give Copy Abilities. Fecto Forgo has only two attacks, both of which come after they stop moving: they can either charge forward and repeatedly bite at the left, right, or center of the hallway, or they'll throw three to four globs of damaging goop at the player. Both of these attacks leave behind stars that Kirby can Inhale and spit back at Fecto Forgo if he lacks a Copy Ability. Unlike other bosses or mid-bosses in the game, Fecto Forgo only has one phase and does not change in behavior as its health drops. The hallway does eventually end, but unlike the fight against Nightmare's Power Orb this does not instantly KO or otherwise harm Kirby; Fecto Forgo will simply stop chasing Kirby and continue using their two attacks until they are defeated.

Soul Forgo appears as a component of the battle against Forgo Leon, where they can attack independently of Leon during the last quarter of the fight. Soul Forgo has two attacks in this phase; they can create a massive, unblockable explosion that deals major damage while Leon lays immobile on the floor, and can suddenly appear and fire small bolts of energy (while Leon is attacking the player) that, upon touching the floor, turn into short shockwaves that span the entire room.

Etymology[]

"Fecto" may be derived from "infect" or "perfect." "Forgo" comes from the word "forgotten."

Trivia[]

  • Fecto Forgo is the only boss from Kirby and the Forgotten Land who has an atonal battle theme.
  • Fecto Forgo is the only boss in the main story of Kirby and the Forgotten Land to not receive a harder version of their fight, and has the fewest attacks out of all of them.
  • Fecto Forgo is similar to the final boss of Resident Evil 2 as it chases Kirby down a hallway. It also resembles the form that Carla Radames from Resident Evil 6 takes on when she is fought since it is a wall of faces that try to eat Kirby, much like how Carla tries to devour Ada Wong.
  • Fecto Forgo is the second main antagonist since Queen Sectonia in Kirby: Triple Deluxe eight years ago to have two forms be considered as "separate" bosses.
  • Fecto Forgo's codename, ID-F86, is a Goroawase pun of the HAL Laboratory (i.e., 8 (は Ha) and 6 (る Ru)). This pun was previously seen at a theme named L86 in Kirby: Planet Robobot and at the obtained score (86555) when Void is defeated in Kirby Star Allies.
  • The incident in which Fecto Elfilis split into Fecto Forgo and Elfilin took place 30 years after the research began, referencing that Kirby and the Forgotten Land released on the 30th anniversary of the series.
  • Soul Forgo is the only character who is named a "Soul" that is not a boss, as they were absorbed by Morpho Knight's butterfly form before they could fight Kirby.
  • Soul Forgo and Galacta Knight are the only fake-out bosses in the Kirby series, with both having introductory screens before they are supplanted by another foe. Coincidentally, both of them were overtaken by Morpho Knight.
    • Unlike Galacta Knight, Soul Forgo both survives the absorption and returns as a stronger boss: Chaos Elfilis.
  • Although Fecto Forgo had the capability to break free from the Eternal Capsule whenever they wanted, they seemingly chose to remain trapped inside it until the end. This is because, according to the Japanese version of the Gotcha Figurine of their boss form, without Elfilin, their body would become unstable without the support of the Eternal Capsule, melting into goop, and they would need large amounts of energy to sustain themself.

This box contains speculation that should not be taken as fact.
  • The people of the ancient civilization which caused the creation of Fecto Forgo may have been the ancients, people of the past who made legendary treasures and pieces of technology. This is evident in that many of their supposed creations, such as the Lor Starcutter and Star Dream, share the ability of opening dimensional rifts and traveling through them with Fecto Elfilis.
    • Additionally, if one takes into consideration of the implications made by Hyness, it is likely that it was specifically the science-users who captured Fecto Elfilis and caused them to split, as it is stated studying them allowed them to create highly advanced technologies.
End of speculation
