KRtDLDX Energy Sphere

Energy Spheres are golden, gear-shaped collectibles in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. Collecting these items unlocks doors leading into Copy Ability Rooms, additional sub-games (though this method of unlocking sub-games is basically useless in the remake), and Challenge stages within the Lor Starcutter.

They are seen falling off from the Lor Starcutter during the games' opening cutscene. The intro sequence as well as the UI shows that there are 120 Energy Spheres to collect. Excluding boss stages, every stage in the games contains between three to five of them. After one has been collected, it will be replaced by a red Point Star when the stage is replayed.

Cookie Country[]

Stage 1[]

  1. In the cave after using the Key. Cannot be skipped.
  2. Use Ultra Sword to destroy the terrain. The last clump of breakable terrain hides a dimensional rift zone. Enter the dimensional rift and defeat the Sphere Doomer at the end.
  3. Defeat the Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 2[]

  1. Use the Crackler to destroy the Metal Blocks in the ceiling near the end of the room. Destroying other Metal Blocks is required in order to bring the Crackler this far.
  2. Hidden in the leaves at the top right of the following room, in which the player is scaling the inside of a tree.
  3. Use Sword from Gigant Edge to cut a rope holding up a heavy platform.

Stage 3[]

  1. In the cave, skip the door and hold down to fall through the platform.
  2. Bring the key back to the lock.
  3. Race against Key Dee and defeat him before he falls into the pit. Take the key to the lock.

Stage 4[]

  1. In the first room, skip climbing up the ladder and keep running forward into a small alcove.
  2. Use the Prism Shield and press the Switch at the end of the room to defeat the Puppet Dees. Drop the Prism Shield and float up to where the Puppet Dees were originally situated. Drop through the platform.
  3. Use Monster Flame to destroy the giant tree near the end of the room. Enter the dimensional rift zone and defeat the Sphere Doomer at the end.
  4. Defeat the Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 5[]

  1. Defeat Whispy Woods to obtain the Oars.

Raisin Ruins[]

Stage 1[]

  1. Use Fire from a Flamer to light the fuse to a Cannon.
  2. Walk between the two boulders all the way to the end of the room. The first boulder will destroy a bunch of blocks in the way before smashing into the wall.
  3. Use Hammer from Bonkers to destroy the Metal Blocks.

Stage 2[]

  1. Use Stone from Rocky or the Copy Essence to pound a stake. This reveals an optional room. Pound the stake in the optional room and run before the Energy Sphere is blocked off. The player should start hovering after passing the sign.
  2. In the following room, swim underwater to find an optional room. Destroy the top Bomb Block.
  3. Use Flare Beam to destroy the Moai Block that's facing the wrong way. This reveals a dimensional rift zone. Enter the dimensional rift zone and defeat the Red Sphere Doomer at the end.
  4. Defeat the Red Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 3[]

  1. Super Inhale the Super Inhale Block and use Tornado from the Copy Essence to destroy the stone blocks.
  2. In the next room, use Hi-Jump to destroy the stone blocks in the middle.
  3. Use Beam from King Doo to destroy a Bomb Block.
  4. In the following room with the Cannons, enter the Cannon to the right and shoot up.

Stage 4[]

  1. After entering the pyramid, enter the optional room with Bomb from Poppy Bros. Jr. or with Cutter from Sir Kibble. If using Bomb, use Bomb Set near the Switch and quickly run to the Gate. If using Cutter, defeat the Kabu and use Hyper Cutter to throw a cutter to the top area, allowing it to hit the Switch repeatedly by rebounding against the walls.
  2. Use the Candle to navigate the dark room and locate the pathway leading to the Energy Sphere.
  3. Use the Invisibility Stone to pass through the second prism wall to enter the optional room. In the optional room, walk through the prism wall while carrying the Invisibility Stone.
  4. Use Ultra Sword to cut giant ropes. One of the blocks hanging by these giant ropes hides the dimensional rift. Enter the dimensional rift zone and defeat the Red Sphere Doomer at the end.
  5. Defeat the Red Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 5[]

  1. Defeat Mr. Dooter to obtain the Left Wing.

Onion Ocean[]

Stage 1[]

  1. Use Spear from Pierce or Whip from Whippy to hit a Bomb Block through a Gordo. This reveals an optional room. In the optional room, grab the Key and run across the Switches, creating temporary platforms. Make it to the lock before the platforms retract.
  2. Using Snow Bowl, in the second room, destroy the giant sand castle to reveal the dimensional rift. Enter the dimensional rift zone and defeat the Red Sphere Doomer at the end.
  3. Defeat the Red Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 2[]

  1. Use Cutter from Kibble Blade to cut a Rope. Jump into the water and swim to the left.
  2. Use Spear underwater to hit a Switch, revealing an optional room. Enter the optional room and destroy all of the Bomb Blocks.
  3. Use the second Stomper Boot to destroy the second Durable Block by jumping on the Bronto Burts.
  4. Use Water Gun to destroy the stone blocks above the Barbar in the ground.

Stage 3[]

  1. Use Stone from Moundo to sink into the water past the upward current.
  2. In the room with the Energy Sphere, take the right-most path.
  3. Use Monster Flame to defeat Giant Flotzo when it's not hiding. Enter the dimensional rift zone and defeat the Red Sphere Doomer at the end.
  4. Defeat the Red Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 4[]

  1. In the second room, enter the optional room. Press the Red Switch to drop the Puppet Dees. Once the gates have closed, pull down the blue ceiling switch to obtain the Key.
  2. In the following room, enter the optional room. Obtain the Invincible Candy and leave. Swim to the door that's obscured by seaweed.
  3. In the room with the spiked shells, swim into the alcove in the ground and wait for the spiked shell to pass. Follow behind it, as it will destroy a bunch of Metal Blocks hiding the Energy Sphere.
  4. Bring the second Balloon Bomb to the Durable Blocks.
  5. In the room with the Barbars, use Spear to destroy a Bomb Block in the ceiling.

Stage 5[]

  1. Defeat Fatty Puffer to obtain the Right Wing.

White Wafers[]

Stage 1[]

  1. Use Fire from Galbo to melt Ice Blocks.
  2. In the room with the Cannons, shoot upward into a hole in the ceiling instead of shooting at the Togekukis.
  3. In the open area of the cannon room, aim to the green cannon to the bottom right, and then aim bottom-left into a cannon near the abyss.

Stage 2[]

  1. Use Fire to light the fuse of a cannon.
  2. Use the second Stomper Boot to destroy the Durable Blocks and bounce on the Mopoos.
  3. Use Grand Hammer's Super Hammer Plus to pound one of the the large Strike Boxes. This will reveal a dimensional rift zone. Defeat the Green Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.
  4. Defeat the Green Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 3[]

  1. Obtain Spear from Lanzer in the first room, use it to hit a Switch in the next room.
  2. Use the Invisibility Stone and Fire. The Invisibility Stone allows the player to pass through ice balls; Fire is used to melt Ice Blocks obstructing a ladder. Once all of the Ice Blocks are melted, grab the Invisibility Stone and climb up the ladder. Then, pass through the crystal wall and the ice balls. Let go of the Invisibility Stone to destroy the Bomb Block before grabbing it again to pass through the giant ice ball.
  3. Obtain Cutter from Sir Kibble. Use Hyper Boomerang to that it can bounce off the wall and cut the string suspending the heavy platform. After entering the optional room, use Hyper Cutter to hit the Switch, allowing the giant ice ball to fall.
  4. Use Water from Water Galboros to hit the Switch while on the rising platform and holding a Key. Bring the Key to the lock.

Stage 4[]

  1. In the second room, jump into the Cannon.
  2. Race the Key Dee. Bring the Key to the lock with the Energy Sphere behind it instead of the one with Scarfies behind it.
  3. Use Snow Bowl to complete the snowman. This will reveal a dimensional rift. Enter the dimensional rift zone and defeat the Green Sphere Doomer at the end.
  4. Defeat the Green Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 5[]

  1. After obtaining the Crackler, there is an optional room in between the moving platforms. Enter the optional room and use the Crackler to destroy the Metal Blocks.
  2. Obtain Fire from Galbo in the room with the Crackler and Freezos. In the next room, melt the Ice Blocks to reveal an optional room. I the optional room, destroy the Bomb Block an make it to the end. In the first section, jump before the Bomb Block chain reaches the raised part of the floor; in the second section, take the lower route; in the third section, float up to the top before the Bomb Block chain reaches the raised part of the floor. After passing the blocks created, keep running.
  3. In the dark room, use the first Candle or Fire to melt the Ice Blocks to reveal an optional room. In the optional room, use Ice from Chilly to freeze a Mopoo and kick it at the Switch.
  4. Bring the Key to the locked door on the left.

Stage 6[]

  1. Defeat Goriath to obtain the Emblem.

Nutty Noon[]

Stage 1[]

  1. In the windy room, destroy the Star Blocks and enter the optional room.
  2. In the room with the platforms suspended by ropes, float to the alcove in the ceiling near the Ceruleans. Cut the rope above the optional door using Cutter, Spear, or Wing.
  3. In the room with the Tornado Copy Essence, enter the alcove to the left in the vertical section.
  4. In the room with the spike balls, reach the area with the Energy Sphere before the large spike ball destroys the Bomb Block on the ceiling.

Stage 2[]

  1. Use the Balloon Bomb to destroy the Durable Blocks hiding an optional door. Using Bomb from the Copy Essence, stand on the Switch to open the gate and throw a bomb at the Bomb Block.
  2. Use Stone from Moundo to pound the first and second stakes.
  3. Use Flare Beam to light all of the star boxes. After lighting the star boxes which create a smile, the dimensional rift zone will be revealed. Enter the dimensional rift zone and defeat the Green Sphere Doomer at the end.
  4. Defeat the Green Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 3[]

  1. Race the Key Dee to the bottom; Stone obtained from the Rocky can help with this. Defeat him before the platform below is destroyed.
  2. While scaling the tower, use Beam to destroy a Bomb Block in the building, allowing access to an optional room. Make it past the Cloud Pactos and pull the Ceiling Switch
  3. Using Hi-Jump from Starman, press the red Switch to open the gate above, Hi-Jump and pull the red Ceiling Switch to open the gate to the right, let go of the Ceiling Switch before the gate below closes, Hi-Jump through the right gate before it closes.
  4. In the last room, occurred by one of the clouds above.

Stage 4[]

  1. Use the second Stomper Boot to destroy the Durable Blocks and bounce on the Gordos.
  2. Located between the two Gigatzos.
  3. Use Grand Hammer's Super Hammer Plus to pound the giant stakes and one of the giant Strike Boxes. After reaching the top of the elevator, use Super Hammer Plus on the spring. After destroying the bell, the Dimension rift zone will appear. Enter the dimensional rift zone and defeat the Green Sphere Doomer at the end.
  4. Defeat the Green Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 5[]

Collecting an energy sphere on one route also collects them on the other, so only one path is required to collect all of the energy spheres.

Normal Entrance[]
  1. Use Sword from Gigant Edge to cut a rope.
  2. Use Stone from Moundo to destroy Metal Blocks.
  3. Use Water from Water Galboros to destroy Fire Blocks.
  4. Use Spark from Dubior to hit a Bomb Block.
Secret Entrance[]

Can be entered through vertical bars above the door in the first room.

  1. Use Water from Water Galboros to destroy the Fire Blocks and hit the Switch.
  2. Use Spark from Dubior to hit Switches using Thunderbolt and Lightning Strike.
  3. Use Cutter or Sword from Kibble Blade & Gigant Edge to cut the rope.
  4. Use Hammer or Stone from Bonkers & Moundo to pound the second stake.

Stage 6[]

  1. Defeat Grand Doomer to obtain the Mast.

Egg Engines[]

Stage 1[]

  1. In the room with the Cannons, when in the cannon above the optional door, shoot when the crusher is closed and enter the optional door. In the optional room, shoot the cannon when the moving wall is about to move.
  2. Use Monster Flame to light the fuse of the Giant Bomb Robot. This will reveal a dimensional rift zone. Enter the dimensional rift and defeat the White Sphere Doomer at the end.
  3. Defeat the White Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 2[]

  1. In the room with the screw stalactites, obtain Ice, Parasol, or Water. In the next room, use Ice's Snow Storm, Parasol's water droplets, or Water's Geyser, to destroy the Fire Blocks in the ceiling.
  2. In the room with the Gigatzos and Volttzos, obtain Stone from Rocky. In the following room, float up into the air pocket and use Stone Smash to destroy the Metal Blocks.
  3. Use Spark from Dubior to hit the third Bomb Block in the ceiling using Thunderbolt.
  4. Bring the Key to the lock at the end of the room. Use the blue Ceiling Switch to summon the key, and press another blue Switch later to swap out a spiked platform for a platform lacking spikes.

Stage 3[]

  1. In the second room, pull the blue Ceiling Switch that appears after the downward incline.
  2. In the room after the fight with King Doo & Moundo, press the red Switch and run to the Energy Sphere floating in the gap between the platforms.
  3. Use Flare Beam to light up all of the light boxes in the second room. The platform will lower and reveal a passage to the right where the dimensional rift zone is hidden, Enter the dimensional rift zone and defeat the White Sphere Doomer at the end.
  4. Defeat the White Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 4[]

  1. In the dark room, destroy the stone blocks above the Swordory and obtain Hammer from the Copy Essence. After descending, go to the right, drop the candle, and use the hammer to destroy the Metal Blocks.
  2. Near the end of the dark room, pass the Clayn that's in front of the exit door and continue to the left, destroying the stone blocks in the way.
  3. Obtain Cutter from Kibble Blade, and throw a left-facing Cutter Boomerang, aimed upward slightly in order to hit the blue Switch at the other side of the waterfall.
  4. After leaving the alcove with the two Barracus, swim down instead of following the Stars.
  5. In the room with the giant Barbars, swim into the optional room periodically obscured by a Barbar. In the dark room, obtain Spark from the Sparky. Use Thunderbolt to destroy a Bomb Block and grab the Candle; use the candle to find the Key. Use Thunderbolt to destroy the Bomb Block to drop the Key. Discard the Candle and pick up the Key and bring it to the lock.

Stage 5[]

  1. In the first crusher room, appears in a left alcove.
  2. In the room with the treadmills, enter the optional room obscured by the Halcandle Armor Dee. Grab the Key and toss it onto the treadmill and quickly make it to the right before it falls. Alternatively, the player can get on the treadmill while holding the Key and crouch in order to avoid the Gordos.
  3. In the second crusher room, float in the middle when the ceiling falls for the third time.
  4. Use the Invisibility Stone to get through the second crystal wall. Pull the blue Ceiling Switch to open the gate.
  5. In the third crusher room, appears near the end.

Dangerous Dinner[]

Stage 1[]

  1. In the room with the boulders, grab the Key and keep on running, avoiding the Halcandle Dee in the way. Bring the Key to the lock.
  2. Obtain Water from Water Galboros, grab the Key and Surf across the magma. After bringing the Key to the lock, enter the optional room. Use Water to douse the exposed Fire Blocks, but don't destroy them. Grab the Key and ascend the cooled stairway. This also works with Ice.
  3. Destroy the Bomb Block above the Iron Barbar pit. Enter the optional door. Press only the Switches that will help the Key Dee reach the end. Don't press the third or sixth Switches, and wait until the moving platform is on the left side before pressing the seventh Switch.
  4. Use Snow Bowl to freeze the volcano. Once the volcano shatters, a dimensional rift zone will appear. Enter the dimensional rift and defeat the White Sphere Doomer at the end.
  5. Defeat the White Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 2[]

  1. In the first room, defeat the Degouts on the left.
  2. In the second room, obtain Ninja from Moonja. In the section with the ladder to the left and the lava wall to the right, there's a passage to the right that leads to an optional door. Use Wall Cling on the top left overhang. Use Wall Strike when the lava pillar lowers slightly.
  3. Obtain Hi-Jump from the Starman or the Copy Essence. In the section with the Halcan Bouncys, take the rightward route, using a Hi-Jump to pass through when the passage opens up briefly. Do this a second time.
  4. Use Grand Hammer to complete the electric circuits that activate a detonation, as well as pound the pipes that spew out fire. The third circuit is the only circuit required to progress. The fifth and third bar need a Grand Hammer, and the second bar needs a Super Hammer Plus. After the third circuit has been bypassed, destroy the Durable Blocks and pound in the small pipes, causing the crystal to be destroyed, allowing the player to pound the large pipe using Super Hamer Plus. This will cause the statue to drop into the lava, revealing the dimensional rift zone. Enter the dimensional rift and defeat the White Sphere Doomer at the end.
  5. Defeat the White Sphere Doomer at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Stage 3[]

  1. Destroy the stone blocks in the ground and run across the Collapse Blocks.
  2. In the room with the Halcandran Parasol Waddle Dees, instead of running below the second giant molten rock, float above it when it descends, revealing an optional door. Enter the optional door. Use the first Stomper Boot to destroy the Durable Blocks and bounce on the lava and Gordos, eventually gaining access to the second Stomper Boot. Use the second Stomper Boot to bounce on the molten rocks and Gordo, and destroy the Durable Blocks at the end.
  3. Use the Prism Shield to defeat the Key Dee at the end of the elevator room. Grab the Key and enter the door. Quickly traverse the room, as the Key has a time limit, while also avoiding obstacles such as Hunter Scarfies, red Degouts, molten rocks, Iron Barbars, and other enemies.
  4. Use Ultra Sword to cut the volcano in half. Inside the volcano is the dimensional rift zone. Enter the dimensional rift and defeat the Purple and Red Sphere Doomers at the end.
  5. Defeat the Purple and Red Sphere Doomers at the end of the dimensional rift zone.

Throughout the games, Magolor will inform the player when they have collected enough to unlock the next door. In dimensional rift areas, they are in the possession of Sphere Doomers and the fiends must be defeated to retrieve them. Collecting all 120 Energy Spheres will prompt Magolor to explain the origins of the Lor Starcutter. Speaking to him again after this will have him tell Kirby that he is an acquaintance of someone who knew Kirby particularly well.

Energy Spheres are found on Halcandra as well. After traveling to Halcandra, Magolor explains that he lost some of the Spheres before crashing on Planet Popstar. As for the Spheres in the dimensional rift areas, they are lost in transit throughout Another Dimension when travelling to Popstar.

Trivia[]

  • It is mandatory for Kirby to pick up the very first Energy Sphere in the game, but after that, the rest are optional.
  • According to Shinya Kumazaki, in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, if the player did not collect all 120 Energy Spheres, it was planned that the player will get the bad end, with Magolor being exiled to Another Dimension with the Master Crown still in full control of him. This idea was eventually scrapped in the original game, as they decided that they "couldn't leave Magolor’s liberation from his crimes out of the main storyline".[1]
    • The idea itself is later added into the remake, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, as a what-if scenario at the very end of The True Arena.
