Donbe and Hikari are the main characters in this video-game version of a classic Japanese folk tale. The game chronicles the lives of our fearless heroes from their births to the time they drove the evil from the Island of Ogres. They are accompanied in their adventure by Ringo the dog, Matsunosuke the monkey, and Ohana the pheasant.
— Trophy description • Super Smash Bros. Melee

Donbe & Hikari are a pair of characters that appear in the game Kirby's Dream Land 3. Both characters originated from the Japanese-only game Shin Onigashima. Donbe and Hikari appear in Sand Canyon's fourth level. Hikari wants Kirby to bring back her brother, Donbe, who has been separated from her. In the third room, Kirby must take the bottom path, then the top path, and finally the middle path. Kirby will then need to fight Haboki. After Haboki is defeated, Kirby will get Donbe. Hikari will give Kirby a Heart Star if he manages to bring back her brother.

Physical Appearance

Donbe is a small boy with long blue hair that covers his eyes and wears a green shirt. Hikari is a girl who has black hair and is slightly taller than Donbe. She wears a white robe and a red skirt. Hikari has her hair in a ponytail with two strands on her sides.

In the Super Smash Bros. series

Donbe & Hikari appear as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Donbe as a sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and as a single Advanced-class neutral spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, who will later evolve into their versions from Shin Onigashima Kouhen. In the spirit battle, Young Link represents Donbe, Villager represents Hikari, Falco represents Ohana, Diddy Kong represents Matsunosuke, and Duck Hunt represents Ringo. The battle starts with just Donbe, but after a while, Ringo, Ohana, and Matsunosuke will appear. Once Donbe is defeated, Hikari will appear.

Trivia

  • Unlike most of the other characters that appear in Kirby's Dream Land 3, Donbe & Hikari retain their 8-bit sprites instead of receiving new sprites that blend in with the game's art style. Chao & Goku, another pair of characters originating from a Japanese-only Famicom game, share this trait.
