“ | Take out all foes at once with a massive explosion!” |
— Kirby Battle Royale - Kirby's 25th Anniversary Copy Ability Poll |
Crash is a Copy Ability in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby's Adventure.
Games
Kirby's Adventure, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, and Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
Crash focuses on creating an all-encompassing attack, defeating all enemies on screen and heavily damaging bosses and mid-bosses. Due to its sheer power, it can only be used once before being expended. This attack can light cannon fuses and hit switches in far away places. Crash can be obtained from the Bomber enemy, the Poppy Bros. Sr. mid-boss, or the Paint Roller boss's bomb.
In Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, Crash can be obtained from Bomber and Dark Mind's bomb.
Techniques
Move | Controls | Description | Element |
---|---|---|---|
Crash | B | Kirby produces an attack that damages all enemies on screen. In Kirby's Adventure, he would quickly zip around the screen, literally crashing into the enemies. In future entries, Kirby instead creates a massive explosion. | Sizzle |
Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra
Crash remains mostly unchanged from its appearance in Kirby's Adventure. However, Kirby Super Star is the first game to make its attack be an explosion. Crash is obtained from Bomber, but can also be obtained from Scarfy or Mr. Anglep by using Copy; Crash cannot be obtained from Poppy Bros. Sr. (which now gives the Bomb Copy Ability in this game). As Crash can only be used once, it does not have a Helper.

Kirby: Canvas Curse
Crash remains mostly unchanged from its appearance in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. It is usually used to activate otherwise inaccessible switches. Crash is obtained from Bomber.
As Kirby: Canvas Curse only allows Copy Abilities to be used within the stages they are found, Crash can only be used in certain locations. Crash can be found in Contrast Cave and Silent Seabed.

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya!
“ | It is a Kirby mode we have never seen before. This is Crash Kirby!” |
— Meta Knight • Fossil Fools - Part II |
Crash Kirby appears in two episodes of the anime. In Fossil Fools - Part II, Kirby gained this ability when he inhaled a powerful bomb that Kirbysaurus was meant to inhale, but Kirby intercepted just in time. Its second appearance was in Air-Ride-in-Style - Part II, when Kirby inhaled Destroya's bomb, and then destroyed it. The anime marks the first instance that Crash receives a hat. Instead of creating an explosion directly from his body, Kirby pulls a white-hot orb of energy out of his mouth, then raises it over his head. The ensuing explosion is unique in that Kirby can choose who it harms so his friends don't get hurt, unlike the Mike ability.
Transformation Sequence
In the transformation sequence, bands of light spin around him before forming the hat that slowly falls onto his head.

Trivia
- In Kirby's Adventure, when Kirby uses the Crash ability, he bounces across the screen at numerous random directions at super-fast speeds, all the while a strobe effect is shown to represent explosions. This scene was never shown in any other game, presumably to prevent epileptic seizures.
- The Crash Rush move in Kirby Star Allies is somewhat reminiscent of this, sending friends bouncing across the screen.
- In Kirby Super Star, Kirby has a white space in his open mouth as he prepares for the blast, giving him the appearance that he is gritting his teeth despite not having any. This was removed in Kirby Super Star Ultra.
- In Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land and Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, Kirby does an "X" move with his hands before creating the explosion.
- AN X shape appears in front of Crash Kirby in Kirby: Canvas Curse before the explosion, despite Kirby lacking hands in this iteration.
- In the anime, it was once mentioned that King Dedede has a fear of the Crash ability.
- In Air-Ride-in-Style - Part II, as Kirby transforms into Crash Kirby a second time, Meta Knight accidentally explains which ability he is getting, even though Meta Knight usually explains this afterwards. This was added in the dub because the episode first aired in North America before Crash Kirby was formally introduced in Fossil Fools - Part II.
- Kirby's Return to Dream Land is the first game to give Crash a hat. However, this hat looks nothing like the hat seen in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!.
- Kirby's Return to Dream Land is the first game to give Crash a Copy Essence and offer it in The Arena and The True Arena.
