A unique convergence of elements, from native-beast souls to ethereal butterfly, gave a stubborn soul one last chance at revenge. This new creation, driven by pure chaos, was defeated by the bright light of Kirby's hope. The last bit of life that remained willingly returned to Elfilin. At last, two became one.
— Gotcha Capsule Description • Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Chaos Elfilis is the true final boss of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It is the result of Soul Forgo absorbing the power of Morpho Knight after the latter consumed them and was subsequently defeated by Kirby, allowing them to create a new body that exceeded the power the alien had even as Fecto Elfilis. Bent on taking revenge on Kirby, Chaos Elfilis creates a portal to The Ultimate Cup Z and - after Kirby defeats all the other opponents in the cup - dives down from the sky and challenges the pink puffball to the game's true final battle. After a grueling two-part fight, Kirby ultimately prevails, destroying Chaos Elfilis' new body and then damaging their soul to the point that it disintegrates into particles. Shortly thereafter, a piece of their soul returned to Elfilin and willingly let itself merge with him, finally allowing them to become whole again.

The fight takes place on a replica of the helipad atop Lab Discovera where Kirby had previously fought Fecto Elfilis (possibly in Forgo Land), with the background generally using a grey version of the distorted rippling background used for much of that fight (though some of the attacks used by Chaos Elfilis' soul will alter the background color). After Chaos Elfilis is absorbed by Elfilin, the background clears to a bright blue sky with white clouds, symbolizing the end of Fecto Forgo's destructive invasion of the New World.

Physical Appearance[]

Chaos Elfilis' first form appears similar to Fecto Elfilis, with most of the differences between them amounting to palette swaps that make the former look much more menacing or perhaps to make them more closely resemble Morpho Knight's palette (inasmuch as Chaos Elfilis resulted from Soul Forgo absorbing Morpho Knight). Chaos Elfilis has white fur with various red markings, their axolotl-esque head has bright red helix-like horns, and the tuft of fur around their neck is now a lemon yellow color. Their sclera are black with pink glowing eyes (which visibly expand when Chaos Elfilis is damaged by Kirby) and their wing-like ears are black with blood red and white patterns and yellow dots, akin to a moth. The spear Chaos Elfilis uses to perform most of their attacks has a golden spearhead, with the handle having a color gradient that is initially black but which turns red close to the spearhead.

Chaos Elfilis True Form

Chaos Elfilis' true form emerges.

After being gravely wounded, their soul begins to protrude from Chaos Elfilis' back, and must be forced out with the Dome Mouth ability before Chaos Elfilis can telepathically strike Kirby with their spear (failure to do so in time will damage Kirby and restore some of Chaos Elfilis' health, prolonging the battle). Once Kirby succeeds, Chaos Elfilis' (now lifeless) original body disintegrates and turns into to a number of smaller, blood red orbs that orbit their soul. This last form is blood red on the outside with a lemon yellow and cyan inside, with a star-like core which is white in color (similar to how Elfilin appeared when he was consumed by Fecto Forgo). Whenever they take damage, the soul glitches out in a similar fashion to Nightmare's Power Orb.

Attacks[]

Both Forms[]

  • Chaos Elfilis can teleport with both forms. Their first form fades out and usually teleports on the ground, though they may occasionally teleport from the air to the helipad. Their soul form teleports far more rapidly, usually before either the cutter or laser attacks.

First Form[]

  • Attacks marked (Low HP) are used during the second phase of the fight, triggered after Chaos Elfilis takes enough damage.
  • When airborne, Chaos Elfilis summons six or seven purple outlined copies of spearheads in three different formations and sends them to attack the player. The first variant of this attack is all seven of them pointing upwards and aim at Kirby; the second is all seven are downwards and can be jumped or hovered over; and the last one has six spearheads splitting into three groups, two of them positioned downwards, and the other four split into top left and right which is functionally similar to the outermost two from each side of the upward ones.
  • Chaos Elfilis summons seven orange outlined copies of their spearhead around Kirby to impale him; these orbit Kirby for a few seconds and will follow Kirby's height until right before they do so. They can be dodged, flown over, or ducked under. This can be done while Elfilis is either airborne or on the ground.
  • Chaos Elfilis slashes with their spear two to four times. They can also fire massive waves of energy similar to sword beams (very likely derived from Morpho Knight) while doing this, in which case Elfilis will do this up to three times; this second variant is telegraphed by the spearhead glowing before Chaos Elfilis swings the spear. They may teleport between the swings.
  • Chaos Elfilis thrusts downwards, which releases eight red tornadoes (an attack obviously derived from absorbing Morpho Knight) that curve outwards around them. Their spear will momentarily get stuck in the ground giving some time for the player to attack. This attack is always used after Chaos Elfilis fires three waves of energy from their spear (as mentioned above).
  • Chaos Elfilis charges from the air and attempts to impale Kirby to the helipad, releasing six stars and a small blue explosion upon striking the helipad. Chaos Elfilis' spear gets stuck in the helipad after this attack, giving Kirby a window to damage them.
  • Chaos Elfilis drives their spear through a portal, causing copies of the spear to emerge from several portals heralded by faint beams of light, slam the ground in quick succession, and create purple shockwaves which must be flown over or dodged. This attack is done twice, hitting both sides of the battlefield.
  • Chaos Elfilis swoops down from the sky and drags their spear across the battlefield, leaving burning rubble behind as they do so; the speed at which they do so is faster than Fecto Elfilis. As with Fecto Elfilis, touching the rubble will damage Kirby.
  • Chaos Elfilis charges at the player with their spear four times from different directions via star-shaped portals.
  • Chaos Elfilis summons a laser that constantly follows Kirby, leaving a damagingly hot trail behind and ending with an energy explosion.
  • (Low HP) Immediately upon losing about 2/3rds of their health, Chaos Elfilis takes to the sky and summons a giant shadow of themselves in the background. The shadow copy sweeps their spear left or right up to four times in conjunction with Chaos Elfilis firing their spearheads either at the player or at the ground below. The shadow disappears once the attack ends. If Chaos Elfilis is on the helipad at the start of a subsequent use of this attack, they will teleport to the sky before the shadow's first swing.
  • (Low HP) Chaos Elfilis will attempt to recover some of their health, much like Fecto Elfilis, but will summon four clones instead of two. As with Fecto Elfilis, the real Chaos Elfilis produces more stars than the clones and is the only one with a shadow, and a laser ring will contract around the real body. Unlike the original Fecto Elfilis, Chaos Elfilis always gets back the same amount of health back if it succeeds (assuming it took no damage mid-healing).
  • (Low HP) Much like Magolor Soul, they fire a laser into a portal only for several more lasers to emerge from portals; the difference being the beams are positioned horizontally due to the fight being in a 3D plane. This attack comes in a second variation where the beams come from the front and side of Kirby, attempting to intersect at Kirby's position, and ending with two pairs of beams (which take longer to fire) attempting to do so.
  • (Low HP) Chaos Elfilis will open a giant star-shaped portal which summons asteroids to hurl at Kirby; in contrast to Fecto Elfilis' version of this attack, the asteroids generate a purple shockwave after they hit the ground and Chaos Elfilis will never use the giant debris asteroid.

Second Form[]

First Phase[]

  • During this phase, Chaos Elfilis will be orbited by multiple orbs (which had once been their body) that can be inhaled and destroyed, weakening certain attacks that rely on them and giving non-ability Kirby an almost constant supply of stars to use against Chaos Elfilis.
  • Chaos Elfilis will cycle between attacks one and four in order before losing 33% of their HP.
  • Attack 1: Used mere moments after disintegrating their first body, Chaos Elfilis becomes a dark vortex which tries to pull Kirby in, with the background taking on a dark purple hue whenever this attack is used. If the player is pulled too close to Elfilis, they lose their copy ability and are dragged into darkness, taking heavy damage before being violently thrown back onto the helipad. Kirby can reclaim his ability if he is quick enough, however.
  • Attack 2: The smaller surrounding orbs group into two and fire lasers at Kirby; there is a variation of this attack where Chaos Elfilis will stay in place and fire three pairs of beams without teleporting in between. Destroying the orbs will make them shoot one less each or end the attack early. Getting struck by this laser deals heavy damage (about a fifth of Kirby's health in wild mode). If Chaos Elfilis loses enough HP, it'll stay and continue this attack until it ends before engaging Phase 2.
  • Attack 3: Chaos Elfilis teleports rapidly around Kirby five times (six in Phase 2) and release a set of cutter shots similar to most other Soul Bosses (six instead of the usual four, and all cutter sets will curve anticlockwise) after the third teleport onwards; the last one will fire two sets of cutters instead of one. The summoned cutters fly around the Soul in a horizontal plane (perpendicular to the vertical), unlike most cases where the cutter blades orbit their user in a plane parallel to the playable plane.
  • Attack 4: Most of the orbs orbiting Chaos Elfilis will begin emitting a beam pointed away from Elfilis and will begin orbiting them in various directions for a number of seconds in a fashion vaguely reminiscent of a ferris wheel; this attack is just as damaging as attack number 2. This attack can be weakened or even prematurely ended by destroying enough of the orbs.

Second Phase[]

  • After losing around 33% HP, Chaos Elfilis will start attack 5 immediately. They will rapidly go from attack five to seven, then attacks four to one, and finally adopt an order of attacks 5, 4, 6, 7, 4, 3, 2, 1 that they will continue using until they're defeated, with very little time between each attack; this phase is accompanied with a sudden change in music, with the second half of "Two Planets Approach The Roche Limit" (the game's final boss theme) starting to play.
  • Attack 5: Chaos Elfilis will rumble, surround themself with flames, and then charge at the arena with spinning orange fire rings around them. The first time they do so, they will go over the helipad and shatter an asteroid made of debris in a cutscene; all subsequent uses will cover the entire helipad and most of the above surroundings. Rubble will fall to the ground before Chaos Elfilis' return and will eventually leave several pillars to be climbed; these must be used to dodge Chaos Elfilis' fireball ramming into the battlefield, as Kirby cannot float high enough to pass over Elfilis on his own and will take major damage if struck by this attack (which is used twice in a row whenever Elfilis employs it). The pillars are destroyed when Elfilis rams them, so the process will need to be repeated before Chaos Elfilis' second attempt. The background turns a fiery orange every time they use this attack and the red part of the boss turns into an orange flame.
  • Attack 6: Chaos Elfilis violently dissolves before falling back down as a rain of paint like energy orbs that rapidly target Kirby. The background also takes on a reddish tint during this move. When the attack finishes, Chaos Elfilis reforms their body and continues attacking.
  • Attack 7: Chaos Elfilis takes on a blue aura and bounces towards the player four times outside the arena before crashing into the arena three times. Upon landing, they'll unleash red shockwaves with thunderbolts similar to Forgo Leon in Phase 2, but the thunderbolts will rotate around the circular shockwave clockwise or anti-clockwise, second will rotate in opposite direction and the final will have both clockwise and anticlockwise thunderbolts. The background turns a cool blue whenever this attack is used.

Fecto Elfilis, titled as Ultimate Life-Form, is a character in the Kirby series, debuting as the final boss of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. They are the original, complete form of Fecto Forgo and Elfilin.

Canonicity[]

Chaos Elfilis Forming

Chaos Elfilis taking shape after the battle against Morpho Knight.

Chaos Elfilis is evidently canon, inasmuch as they are the result of Soul Forgo consuming Morpho Knight (whose fight is also canon); Soul Forgo can be seen escaping after Morpho Knight is defeated, implying that Kirby would fight them again. The Ultimate Cup Z where Chaos Elfilis is fought was apparently created by Elfilis in a last ditch attempt to take revenge on Kirby, and the credits for completing Isolated Isles: Forgo Dreams display a picture of Chaos Elfilis' outline (hinting at their existence and eventual boss fight) followed by a picture of Kirby and the Beast Pack (including Leon) celebrating outside of the arena, evidently after Kirby clears The Ultimate Cup Z (and thus defeats Chaos Elfilis). The Gotcha capsule for Chaos Elfilis likewise gives no indication that this boss fight is not canon.

Trivia[]

  • Chaos Elfilis has the most amount of phases of any boss in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, with a total of 4: two where it copies Fecto Elfilis and two where it is fought in orb form.
  • Chaos Elfilis is the first secret final boss of a Boss Endurance-type sub-game in the main Kirby series to be canon since Kirby Super Star Ultra, which introduced non-canonical Boss Endurance secret bosses.
  • Chaos Elfilis' Gotcha Capsule states that this form of Fecto Forgo is "driven by pure chaos". This may imply that their transformation into Chaos Elfilis had driven Fecto Forgo completely insane, perhaps due to the large number of conflicting souls Fecto Forgo had to absorb to attain this form.
    • This second idea may be further bolstered by the fact that, after the defeated Chaos Elfilis is finished releasing all of the many souls it consumed, only a single small particle of Fecto Forgo's own soul is left.
    • The 'theme' for the first half of the battle against Chaos Elfilis' soul, "Eternal Echo of the Thrilling Tour-our-our", is a chaotic, irrational jumble of music and vocal clips from the Lab Discovera tour, further implying that at least by this point Chaos Elfilis has lost their sanity.
  • Both Chaos Elfilis and Star Dream Soul OS's final forms have outer shells with a single color, are fought in a 3D space, and have music changes once they lose enough HP.
    • Similarly, both Chaos Elfilis' and Star Dream Soul OS' first forms teleport very often in their respective boss fights, whereas their standard forms (Fecto Elfilis' and Star Dream's first forms respectively) did not teleport at all.
  • Though this form of Fecto Forgo does not have 'Soul' in its title (inasmuch as Soul Forgo was a fake-out for Morpho Knight), both phases of Chaos Elfilis have a number of references to other Soul bosses in the series, such as:
    • Using the fireball attack first employed by Drawcia Soul, right down to the background turning fiery orange (also referenced by Soul of Sectonia).
    • Employing the paint rain attack from Drawcia Soul, Marx Soul, and Soul of Sectonia (albeit much more carefully aimed in the case of Chaos Elfilis).
    • Utilizing the bounce attack from Drawcia Soul, Soul of Sectonia, and Void Soul (and by extension Void).
    • Attempting to consume Kirby with a black hole, much like Marx Soul, Magolor Soul, and Void Soul's cores.
    • The cutter attack, used by all Soul bosses except Magolor Soul.
    • Firing lasers through portals (during Chaos Elfilis' first phase), in a manner similar to Magolor Soul and Soul of Sectonia.
    • Additionally, both Fecto Elfilis and Chaos Elfilis' first forms have an attack reminiscent of an attack used by Void Termina in Kirby Star Allies, this being an attack that involves the dragging of a weapon across the ground. In the case of both Fecto Elfilis and Chaos Elfilis, the weapon used is a spear that they also use in many of their other attacks; Void Termina instead uses an axe that is slammed into the ground while hanging from the boss' tail during their second phase.
  • Much like Void, several of their attacks cause the background to change color whenever they are used. The only attacks they use that don't change the background colors are their laser and cutter attacks.
  • Chaos Elfilis is the first Soul boss from a base game to:
    • not to have "soul" anywhere in their name (due to said "boss fight" with Soul Forgo being a bait-and-switch for Morpho Knight).
    • to have a post battle cutscene (versus the game ending shortly after the soul boss explodes).
    • to have a disturbing ambiance play during one of their phases (Eternal Echo of the Thrilling Tour-our-our).
      • Furthermore, this track has multiple versions for different languages (English, French, German, NA and EU Spanish, Italian, Netherlands, Korean and Japanese) and a vocal-less version that plays during The Ultimate Cup Z's intermission before the actual fight.
Chaos Elfilis Defeated 2

Chaos Elfilis' defeat animation, where Beast Pack members can be seen.

  • Much like Soul of Sectonia, Star Dream Soul OS, Void, and Magolor Soul in The True Arena in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, the final form of Chaos Elfilis uses an alternate version of the final boss theme. In this case, it's a shorter version of Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit that starts at 4:13.
  • The sky in Chaos Elfilis' fight resembles the texture on Void, being grey with swirling rainbows.
  • When Chaos Elfilis is defeated, they use the same sound effect as Void's defeat and reference the defeat animation of Sectonia Clone and Dark Matter Clone with the souls they absorbed pulsing in and out before disappearing into light.
  • Interestingly, the Japanese title for Chaos Elfilis is 魂沌新種 (lit. New species of chaotic soul), and "魂沌" is also the same word used for Void Soul's title. Whether this hints that they are somehow related is unknown. Furthermore, both Chaos Elfilis' first form and Void have a red and white color scheme similar to Zero, the latter being infamous due to it's blood themed attacks. Chaos Elfilis' final form is even blood red with several of its attacks such as its cutters or paint rain being the same colour.
  • Chaos Elfilis is the second Soul Boss that doesn't show any Pink and Blue on it's body (including paint attacks) or in a splash Screen, the first being Magolor Soul.
  • If the player goes out of bounds via glitches as soon as the fight against the second form starts, Kirby will be spawned back to the battlefield and another Chaos Elfilis (this one in their first form) will appear. Both Chaos Elfilis have separate HP bars and defeating the first form of the second Elfilis will cause another 2nd form Chaos Elfilis to appear, at which point the glitch can be repeated to create additional Chaos Elfilises (attempting to create more than 6 total Elfilises crashes the game). Defeating any of the 2nd phase Chaos Elfilises causes the fight to end and the cutscene to play as normal while the survivor(s) continue attacking. Kirby will still be attacked by the other Elfilises when one is undergoing a phase transition (during which Kirby is immobile and completely defenseless), and the camera tends to follow the youngest Chaos Elfilis (commonly resulting in some/all of the other Elfilises going offscreen or even blocking the camera), making fighting more than one a very difficult undertaking. This can also cause severe slowdown and cause some of the Chaos Elfilis' attacks to not render correctly. If enough attack effects are being rendered simultaneously, the game will also crash.
  • Chaos Elfilis' eyes in their Gotcha figurine reflect light in such a way that they appear to be watching the player even in figurine form.
