Bourbons[1][2][3] (also referred to as Those things that are often stuck in the ground in Dream Land[4] or simply Those things) are an environment object in the Kirby series.
Physical Appearance[]
The appearance of the bourbons may vary depending on the game or the area they're located in. They're most commonly depicted as tall structures with a rounded top, and their bottom always planted on a surface. Their faces are usually blank, but in some games, they can appear striped or spotted.
General Information[]
Bourbons are common environment elements in the Kirby series. In most games, the player cannot interact with them in any way, and only serve as decoration. Bourbons can be encountered in many territories, including grasslands, forests, tundras, and inside bodies of water, such as oceans and lakes. At times, they may be part of the background in a stage or level hub.
The bourbons first appeared in the original Kirby's Dream Land and have reappeared in many titles since, also serving as simple environment decorations. Starting with Kirby's Adventure, the bourbons may change appearance depending on their location.
Bourbons can be interacted with in certain games:
- In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, the first Hypernova section in Fine Fields allows Kirby to inhale the bourbons. They're usually placed where large amounts of enemies are, and they come in yellow and pink.
- In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Big-Rig Mouth can destroy pieces of Planet Popstar that contain bourbons.
- In Kirby's Dream Buffet, two bourbons appear in the Whispy Stage Cake as minor obstacles. The Kirbys can bump into them, but otherwise, they do nothing else.

Trivia[]
- The appearance and name of the bourbons come from a Japanese snack of the same name, "Bourbon Chocoliere." These are tall cookies filled with chocolate, with rounded tops and bottoms.
- This is referenced in one of the Tweets from the official Japanese Kirby Twitter account, where Marx and Magolor prank Channel PPP by telling them the bourbons may turn into chocolate if they do 25 laps around one.
- Kirby: Squeak Squad has a grand total of nine bourbons. Six of them can be found in stage 1 of Ice Island, while three more can be spotted in stage 5 of the same location.
- Kirby: Triple Deluxe is the only game so far to have the bottom part of the bourbons fully modeled. The bourbons shown here are the ones found in the tileset for Fine Fields. This cannot be seen in-game because the bottom part is always placed inside the ground.
- Similarly, Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition has a texture depicting the bourbons in full. The texture is applied to a flat model in-game.
- The bourbons also appear in the Super Smash Bros. series. They can be encountered in the Green Greens, Fountain of Dreams, and Dream Land GB stages.
- In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe in Merry Magoland, three bourbon-shaped lines appear on the far sides on the lower structure of the Magoland building. A Hidden Magolor can be found in the middle shape.
