Reason: "Blasto" is based on Captain Stitch (given the eyes and damage sprite) and was possibly redesigned because Needle's representative is Spikey in the Kirby's Block Ball.

There is no official information available about its title, so it has been given a fitting one.

The cavorting creampuff also meets a brooding bomber who turns out to be a nice guy, after all. When his fuse burns down, he blows up blocks that Kirby can't demolish by himself. It's a blast!
— Description • Nintendo Power (Volume #83)

Blasto is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby's Block Ball.

Physical Appearance

Blasto is a glaring black ball. It has four rounded bumps sticking out of its body diagonally. It only opens its mouth when Kirby strikes it. Altogether, it bears a strong resemblance to Gordo.

Kirby's Block Ball

Blasto appears in Stages 6, 9, and 11. It slowly moves back and forth, minding its own business. If Kirby hits it twice, it is defeated and drops a Crash item; this detonates upon contact with Kirby and the resulting explosion melts all nearby Metal Blocks. This is required to clear multiple rounds in the game.

  • Captain Stitch looks extremely similar to Blasto due to the expressions it makes, right down to changing color when it is damaged. The later enemies Blado and Searches also bear a resemblance to it, with the latter even capable of blasts that may be akin to Blasto leaving behind a Crash item.
