Apolo is an enemy in Kirby's Dream Land 3.

Physical Appearance

Apolo is a simple brown cone with a pink upper section. The enemy has two shiny, circular eyes. Some Apolos have an alternate color scheme: a blue lower section and a light blue upper section. This variation of Apolo commonly appears in icy levels.

Apolo spins continually around trees or other rounded objects, and can hit the player when it is in the foreground. If Kirby inhales Apolo, he will recover a bar of vitality. The enemy is occasionally difficult to inhale due to its positioning; Apolo typically dwells high above the ground.

Etymology

Apolo's name is derived from Apollo, a kind of Japanese candy from Meiji Seika. Apollo candy is cone-shaped and has two different flavors: strawberry and chocolate or strawberry and blueberry. These two flavors directly correspond to Apolo's two different color palettes. The way Apolo restores Kirby's health when inhaled also refers to the fact that it is a candy. Apollo also happens to be the name of the Greek god of healing, which could possibly be a reference to the enemy's healing capabilities.
