A Trip to Alivel Mall is the fifth stage in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It is the fifth stage of Natural Plains. It succeeds Rocky Rollin' Road and precedes The Brawl at the Mall.

General Information[]

This stage takes place in and around the Alivel Mall location on the Arrival Continent. It is overgrown with foliage from years of abandonment, though some of that appears to be intentionally placed. At the beginning of the stage, Kirby lands right outside of the enormous mall. Upon entering, he cannot exit. The opening area contains only a few enemies, being 2 passive Awoofies, a Cappy, and a Needlous. Kirby should head up 2 broken escalators to the next floor and then head to the right, where a few more enemies await. Soon, the player will stumble upon a doughnut, and right under it, a Gotcha Capsule guarded by a Kabu. Directly after that, the player finds a thin walkway bombarded by Poppy Bros. Jr. bombs. The player may choose to eat a nearby Invincible Candy to avoid being damaged, and may even destroy a nearby Bomb Block, opening a path allowing them to retaliate against the Poppy Bros. Jrs. before entering a Door.

Right after entering the door, Kirby can see an opportunity to use Storage Mouth for the first time. After defeating 2 enemies that spawn and attack, Kirby can use the Storage Mouth, which reveals a sign depicting what seems to be a T-highway with a burger on top of the terminating route. A arrow points in the direction the path under the burger is going. To the right of this, there is a path going straightforward that splits into 3 smaller paths going to the right. The first path is labeled with a milkshake, the second with a burger, and the final path with a rice dish. The player should head down the second path, as hinted at by the sign. If the player heads down the wrong paths, a gate will close behind them and they can open a treasure chest spawning several enemies. If the correct path is chosen, Kirby will instead find a few Awoofies sitting at tables with many Food items on tables as well as a Waddle Dee in a chest. Kirby should then proceed up broken escalators into the next section.

After climbing the escalators, Kirby will find a room with two-way conveyors carrying several enemies as well as Needle and Fire Copy Essences in between the conveyors. Ahead of this section, Kirby is forced to fight Wild Frosty. After defeating him and likely obtaining the Ice ability, Kirby can test the ability on burning logs and a few enemies. The next area focuses heavily on conveyors and crates with rewards inside falling off the stage. One such crate even contains a Gotcha Capsule. The final part focusing on conveyors has 4 conveyors rotating around a square spike pit, with many Collectibles around the area. Once he has gathered everything, Kirby should move into another door.

This room is another puzzle like the pick-a-path seen earlier, except with 6 paths instead of 3. On the left side, there are paths labeled with a slice of cake, hot dog, and another slice of cake. On the right, mint ice cream, tea, and popcorn label the paths from top to bottom. Upon heading to the right, Kirby can use the Storage Mouth again, this time revealing a 4-way route with the top-right corner being missing and a cake symbol on the top left. As this is insufficient information, Kirby should head behind a desk to the right and use Storage Mouth again, this time revealing a small room containing an Awoofy, a Capsule, and the rest of the sign, with ice cream revealed to be the symbol on the right. After gathering this information, Kirby can head to the top left path, which contains a similar room to the first maze. Once he has collected everything, Kirby can proceed to the final room.

Here, Kirby has to head directly up several escalators with many enemies in the way. After reaching the top, he must use Storage Mouth one final time, this time with the cabinet being bolted to the wall. Kirby takes the entire wall with him while falling, leaving him with the goal straight ahead.

Missions[]

Italicized missions are hidden from view on the player's first playthrough.

  • Clear the stage: When Kirby clears the stage for the first time, he will automatically rescue 3 Waddle Dee prisoners from the golden cage.
  • Save the hidden Waddle Dees: 4 Waddle Dee prisoners can be found here, their locations being the following:
    • At the roof where Poppy Bros. Jrs. throw bombs down, behind a Gordo.
    • At the first path split, on the middle path, inside of a treasure chest.
    • Hovering over the spike pit in the room with 4 conveyors after a switch is pressed.
    • At the second path split, on the top-left path, inside of a treasure chest.
  • Eat 4 Doughnuts: Throughout the stage, 4 doughnuts are hidden in various places, their locations being:
    • When heading to the right, upon a table guarded by 2 Awoofies.
    • In the inner area of the 4-way conveyors after touching a sparkling spot.
    • On a table in the top-left path, after the second path split, once another sparkling spot is interacted with.
    • On a table in a small area on top of the goal, guarded by a Bernard.
  • Eat an Invincible Candy: If the player keeps going right after seeing the path Poppy Bros. Jrs are repeatedly throwing bombs at, they will find an Invincible Candy. Eating it immediately unlocks the mission.
  • Navigate the mall without getting lost: If the player guesses both path splits correctly in a row, this mission is completed after destroying the wall at the end.

Trivia[]

KatFL Alivel Mall Wondaria Poster

A Wondaria poster

  • After first entering the mall, the player may notice an Awoofy walking up the left escalator. This Awoofy will completely ignore the player and walk on a predetermined path. If it is followed throughout the entire first area without being defeated or off-screened, it will lead the player to a small hole with a blue Star Coin.
    • Shortly after entering the hole, the Awoofy will despawn.
  • Posters advertising Wondaria amusement park appear throughout Alivel Mall.
  • A Trip to Alivel Mall's Japanese name appears to be a double entendre. 行こう (ikō), as written in the game, means "let's go," but when written as 遺構 (same pronunciation, ikō), it means "remains," so the Japanese name could also be seen as meaning "Alive Mall Remains," as the mall has been dilapidated.
