Excuse me, but enemies like Bonkers are also called mini-bosses. In the mid-boss article, it says that, so there is no rule to call every enemy a "mid-boss" and not a "mini-boss". Thanks. [[User:Ignasozu7|Ignasozu7]] 03:52, December 21, 2011 (UTC)

Hmph...

Was that, "not screw anything up", thing because of the vandals on the site? Cause generally the only thing I do is revert vandalism on articles. It ticks me off too, so don't worry. 0verlord Gouki 22:54, March 5, 2011 (UTC)

Can you define inexperienced? That's a vague term. 0verlord Gouki 23:46, March 5, 2011 (UTC)

I see. Well, like I said, don't worry about me. Except that one "hammer" screw up I just did, I make sure I'm not being redundant or misspelling anything. And vandalism will be reverted as quickly as possible. Sorry for taking your time. 0verlord Gouki 00:00, March 6, 2011 (UTC)

I've been testing backgrounds and alpha values

http://testkirby.wikia.com/wiki/Test:Kirby_Wiki

What do you think? =) Should I continue improving the backgrounds and composition and balances and perhaps have a Sys-op apply it on the main site when it's ready or should we stick to the pink one at the moment and I stop working along those lines for now? .Cheers. Changtau2005 22:56, April 8, 2011 (UTC)

OK. I'll keep working on it. I'm not sure about the monobook skin, because I'm still relatively new to this whole system. Is the coding for it any different and is there some place I can read up on making one - because as I understand it Monobook support has been discontinued. I'll hopefully not take too long to finalize this one so I can look into it.
What do you think about the current background image though? Is it too bright or the transparency of the content area too low or high? I'm also considering watered-down colors like Dragon Age / Assassin's Creed or that other Kirby wiki's toned down colors. Hopefully I can get some opinion to work on.
Changtau2005 23:49, April 8, 2011 (UTC): What do you think? =)

Update: Did further changes. Check out the new textured buttons, opening menus and bars, and the transparent wikia bar at the top at the testing site http://testkirby.wikia.com/wiki/Test:Kirby_Wiki
Good enough for the main site? =) Cheers,

Article revision comparison bugged

Sorry to bother you about this, but I'm not sure who to ask. Recently if one clicks on the 'show changes on this article' button, the revision histories no longer take 50% width each, changed sections are no longer highlighted in green, and specific changes in text are no longer highlighted in bold red. It can't be my CSS 'cause I'm seeing this in all wikis including Wikia Central and it takes a lot more effort to spot what editors actually put in and take out now.

Is this related to this update? I've managed to reverse everything but the specific text changes via CSS - the red highlighting applies to the entire section, which doesn't really help.

Update: Wikia central fixed it, apparently.

On a separate note, I've done about as much as I can with the new skin CSS, but haven't seen GameFreak on lately so I haven't asked him about his opinion. Do you think there are any more tweaks that should be put in or taken out?

Cheers

Starting work on Monobook

I'm finished with the Oasis skin for anon users. Starting work on Monobook on the same testing site. Shouldn't take as long =)

Finished Monobook mod. Because of differences between sites I can only do it on my personal page. Just simple textures for buttons and sidebar, formatted upper p-caction bar, and a fix for the blog section - Gives a rather more Spartan look than Oasis but Monobook leaves little room for fanciness anyways.
There's only 1 problem. Collapsible tables mess up user pages but not mainspace and I can't locate the problem, but otherwise both Oasis and Monobook are good to go unless there are other modifications needed.

Sys-Op

The purpose of this post is to officially ask for sys-op privileges at Kirby Wiki. I understand the gravity of this request and that I'm a relative newcomer to the site - its only purpose is so that I can assign classes in Mediawiki:Commons.css as most of my work is done in templates and it currently involves a lot of styling in div and span tags, as well as assign some much-needed improvement over the Oasis interface including additional buttons with Monobook sidebar functions on the footer bar and a Monobook skin toggle button for registered users with Javascript plug-ins.

Separately, the Oasis skin CSS is now complete. The Monobook one is not, but it's in a presentable state. I haven't seen GameFreak since he last updated the featured article on the main page, so I present them to you in their current state at the testing site. Oasis | Monobook. Do you think they are good enough, or should I scrap it, further modify it, or put up a poll on the main page for the community to decide?

Either way, should this request be accepted or declined, I fully understand the consequences and/or responsibilities involved in both cases. I thank you for taking your time to consider this, and look forward to your reply. (My talk page)

Yours sincerely,

Changtau2005

Thank you for accepting the request. This means a lot to me. I won't disappoint you.

Database construction started

I'm currently constructing a universal transformable database for just about everything. There should be minimal disruption to the mainspace, but recent changes might be periodically flooded with template and categorization changes. Sorry for the disruption.

Harassment

Yeah, some dude named Dialgaofpower claimed that I have been ruining wikis even though not only have not been doing this, (you can easily see my edits and none of them have been destructive and/or irrelevant), he doesn't have proof of this, and it looks like he doesn't even have admin powers. I can't tell if he's trolling, or just being stupid. Some intervention from you or another admin would be appreciated. 0verlord Gouki 22:37, June 13, 2011 (UTC)

Eh, reference from both users
Dialgaofpower has zero mainspace edits. All he does is talk to users? I don't see anything wrong with Overlord's edits; they're all constructive. Looks like pure harrassment or some kind of lame joke, as he doesn't even have blocking powers. Changtau2005

Infobox

I've completely overhauled all our infoboxes (Category:Infobox) and the changes are quite extensive, so I thought I should post the changelog.

All previous functionalities remain intact, and the infoboxes now:

  • All draw from Template:Infobox/Table
  • Support additional parameters. All previous parameters remain supported.
  • All fields remain optional
  • Extra whitespace from previous code have been removed
  • Excess padding have been removed
  • Problematic alternating background colors solved
  • No longer displays the title twice, and omits the full name automatically if it matches the title
  • If no picture set, automatically defaults to File:Image_Needed.png linking to Special:Upload and categorizes page in Category:Articles in need of images
  • Picture parameters no longer requires escaping of pipe (|) character using the ! template
  • All formatting applied as standard, and applied automatically
  • All functions of Template:KEYLevel have been integrated into Template:Level-infobox, so the former has been deleted.

In the future...

I know I'm late, but in the future please refrain from promoting a user to administrator/bureaucrat without first allowing them to request said tools. I understand that you changed user rights for Changtau in good faith and made no mistake with such a decision, but the purpose of the request pages is so that users can show the community why they deserve the tools, and supports/opposes/neutrals show how much the community approves of the user applying. Thanks, BNK [E|T|C] 13:15, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

I'll apologize for that, fully, to both Starman and BNK. This is the full explanation of why I asked Starman125 instead of using Kirby Wiki: Requests for adminship. Back then I've put near 200 hours into making the new skin, and then there's the retouch of the Monobook skin and fixing certain Mediawiki issues like blog pages not displaying properly in Monobook since support was dropped (they still don't). I wasn't completely clear about what user ranks there are back then, I thought sys-op and admins were two different things, sys-op being like a technician level where Mediawiki was given free access so I can fix things up, but when I asked for the privileges I did consider that I could be wrong and what I'm asking for is actually admin privileges. It didn't matter so much to me back then as all I wanted to do was fix the front page up for both Oasis and Monobook.
I had exams coming and time pressure and so on, and I didn't know how long requesting for sys-op, whether it be admin or not would take. I read up on Wikia community central, and the staff said if activity on the wiki is low, generally asking a Bureaucrat directly is fine. There were very few other active editors back then for voting purposes, although there were still patrols (in the logs anyways), and then there's the issue of how to let the request stick - I was making hundreds of edits per day and it just washes everything off the bottom of Activity or RecentChanges.
In retrospect I did put some undue pressure on Starman although it was never my intention. I don't mind stepping down and re-submitting a formal request for adminship if that's the best course of action.
Cheers, Changtau2005
Administrator Poyo! 13:47, July 21, 2011 (UTC)
That wouldn't be necessary (it would be redundant, rather), as you've shown that you are very capable of managing these tools while also maintaining an editcount that tops every other user here, and you patrol very well. Starman, Gamefreak, and Max2 have the tendency to promote users who made a lot of edits, disregarding other factors (like behavior, see User:KirbyFan). I was promoted that way, but that was before the request pages were made. Thank you for proving to the community that you are a capable administrator and contributor, you are greatly appreciated. You should be more careful when deleting pages.

The format for the pages was screwed up, but it's not a very good idea to delete pages like Talk:Dark Castle or Talk:Cloudy Park when I was using them to point out the sound files listed were wrong and need to be fixed. It would have been better to fix the bad formatting so that people could still see the message. 69.134.29.102 02:59, October 22, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the update

Haha, yeah, I guess that's to be expected when you leave for, like, 2 years. Although it would've been a smarter to move do downgrade me to an admin instead of bureaucrat, because not only is bureaucrat the higher rank, but I think that, being a bureaucrat, I can just give my admin powers back to myself lol. Not that I would, but still. Anyway, great to be back! =p EmptyStar 20:24, October 27, 2011 (UTC)

Flavor text template

Hi! I've had a look at the flavor text table that you've been working on, and I've tested alternative implementations as well - I think the best way to do it is to just have a usual wikitable class table without any switch referrals at all, and just put another PortalLogo xyz into the first column of the table in the row of whatever text that appears in more than one game. That makes the page load faster as it doesn't need to parse the ifs and switches, which aren't strictly necessary, I think. E.g.

Kirby's Adventure
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land
KA / KNiD flavor text
Kirby's Return to Dream Land
KRtDL flavor text
{| class="wikitable"
|{{PortalLogo|KA}}
{{PortalLogo|KNiD}}
|KA / KNiD flavor text
|-
|{{PortalLogo|KRtDL}}
|KRtDL flavor text
|}

or

Kirby's Adventure
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land
KA / KNiD flavor text
Kirby's Return to Dream Land
KRtDL flavor text
{| class="wikitable"
|{{PortalLogo|KA}}{{PortalLogo|KNiD}}
|KA / KNiD flavor text
|-
|{{PortalLogo|KRtDL}}
|KRtDL flavor text
|}
Edit: We probably don't need to make it into a template in that case; just like the move sets tables for the copy ability pages.
Changtau2005

Administrator Poyo! 13:23, November 21, 2011 (UTC)

Edit: I kinda get the gist of what you're doing with the template. There's a few ideas in my head involving #explode that might just merge all the subtemplates into a universal one. The intended syntax of the target template I have in mind would be along the lines of:

{{Flavortexts
 |KA
 |alpha
 |KSS
 |beta
 |KNiD,KatAM,KSqSq
 |delta
}}

Let me see if I can get it to work in a sandbox without making the end template too complicated.

Changtau2005

Administrator Poyo! 13:55, December 2, 2011 (UTC)

The template's done. I applied it to Beam and Plasma, so Beam's version is how the template would appear if all the fields are filled in i.e. featured in all games. Plasma's version is how it would appear otherwise. It's somewhat more complicated than I thought it would be, but page load times shouldn't be an issue, since I optimized large parts of it by nesting the ifs within one another - they terminate once there's nothing else to evaluate.
There are two things which are unusual about the template: One is that I cannot use spacebars to delimit the abbreviations as I intended, because it becomes white-space sensitive. To both use spacebar delimiters and immunize it somewhat against white-space sensitivity, then the number of spaces that can be tolerated plus the number of abbreviations would have to be equal to or less than the number of nested ifs within Template:Flavortexts/ParseList, so to do it more easily we just have to append a semicolon after each abbreviation. Second is that we have to use escaped equals symbols. Those separate the abbreviations from the flavor texts for the parser. Other than that I think this does exactly what we wanted it to, and it collapses the logos of the games which the copy ability didn't appear in into one single line instead of spreading it over several and repeating the same thing.
I can get rid of those semicolons and escaped equals i.e. use the syntax of the example above, but it makes it vulnerable to stepping errors e.g. if someone omits field 2, which is the flavor text for field 1, then everything beneath it would be broken. It does have the advantage of being faster, as we don't need nearly as many #explodes, and it is immune to character clashes i.e. if any one of te flavor texts have an interior equals sign, then the first solution will not display it properly, but the one I'm talking about will if the equals is escaped like it needs to be in any other template. It is more vulnerable to users not familiar with templates and RTE mess-ups though. Not sure which style we should adopt.Changtau2005
Administrator Poyo! 18:12, December 2, 2011 (UTC)
I've had a thought about the syntax I changed it back to the originally-intended one. That's because the code looks more like standard template code. The second format is probably even less user friendly than the original one 'coz of the semicolons and escape characters. Should run faster too.Changtau2005

User images

I'm thinking, should we specify an arbitrary edit count requirement before users can upload unofficial / unrelated images onto their user page? Maybe something low like 200 or even just 100 edits, so people don't just come onto the wiki, make a couple of edits, then upload a couple of those images which clutter up the wiki. I mean, any user who has >= 200 constructive edits probably frequent the wiki, and has probably made a more or less noticeable impact - I guess an image or two is a privilege earned? Current user image limit is +/- 5 per user for any user by the way. I haven't discussed this with Gamefreak, Timson, or BNK yet.
